Armageddon-SPL strong at the bottom

788

Dundee are nine points adrift at the bottom of the SPL but made a good fist of it against Celtic last night, after a rocky start.  They held their own for a good 30 minutes either side of the interval.  They are clearly the worst team in the league but they are a pretty decent worst team.  Armageddon-SPL is strong at the bottom end.

You and I know the Celtic support, as a group and to any statistically significant level, are vastly better behaved than any supporters of any other large football club.  This is a source of enormous pride but comes at a cost.  Over 20 years later you will still hear about fruit thrown by one idiot, I do.  This is a good thing.  It means that there has been little to talk about these past 20 years.

When you benefit from the greatest reputation in football you are held to the highest standards.  No one will blame Chelsea fans when we drop the ball.  I’ve heard no reports of damage or injury at Dens last night, but 20 years from now someone will tell you what was said by a representative of Dundee today.  This will be a good thing.

  1. Hi Hamiltontim. The behaviour has been highlighted enough. We know what has been alleged. I mostly have no logic when thinking about Celtic. My default position is to always support the club. However, a minority are tarnishing our club.

Of course any racist chanting should be highlighted. Regards to you.

You were probably too inebriated or coked up to notice what millions heard on TV for 30 minutes.

  3. Vhman, missed you again. If you are still up in this neck of the woods, the Port Harp have got their club doo tonight with Quigleys point in the Hibs, you are more than welcome, if you have nothing else planned.

    Hail Hail

  4. I don’t think we are in disagreement Awe Naw, I think responsibility is a 2 way thing. The game should never have been fixed for a night time kick off on St. Stephen’s Day and it does appear that it was badly handled by the Stewards but at the same time lads have a responsibility to behave themselves.

are you going along to meet Summa on Paddy’s day in Sydney?

  7. Four Celtic supporters were arrested at Dundee and it’s described as a riot.

Eight mankies were arrested at Ibrox last week and it’s a protest.

  8. Maybe there was only 4 Dundee fans racially abusing Efe,Vic and Kelvin. . . . . . .

That’d explain why the commentators chose not to highlight it. . . . . .

If Efe was racially abused, it would have been reported on by the Scottish Media……no, wait..

  10. There appears to be a few on here who are taking a delight in driving an agenda shaped stake into the Celtic support.

    You know who you are.

Yes I read the blog and the gentlemans post that you refer to enquires to the reason why Ambrose was being booed. I don’t think he received a reply and his post is singular in any reference to Celtic players being abused during the live updates

  12. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo: your statement is clearly absurd. Some police actions have been unfair but they are not always unfair.

Are you one of the people who believes Scotland to be akin to apartheid era South Africa? Some Celtic supporters are actually seriously believing this! Our community has progressed. The country has also progressed. Not enough. However to believe that we are a group being seriously persecuted at the highest levels is ridiculous.

  13. Magnus:

Good stuff mate, if I’m in the country I am looking forward to sharing a beer or two with you.

Had to laugh at the Daily Express ‘positioning’ of Sandaza being asked not to bless himself before during, or after any game ……. nothing changes …….. sad, sad, sad bhuns, including the media

  15. The racial abuse directed at Ambrose was clear on ESPN’s feed. No comment on it from the MSM or Celtic.

Whilst I wouldn’t condone drunkeness or fighting in the stands, the grand total of four arrests does not suggest anything approaching a riot…

We do need to be careful however. It will not take much for our reputation to be tarnished, and I think we would all agree there is an element of our support that can get out of hand occasionally. Lawwell is right to adopt a zero tolerance approach in this instance (compare and contrast with the silence from the motormouth Green regarding riot police battering the (new) Huns at Ibrox…)

Thank you for your polite reply.

In reference to my first question though, what evidence have you to support your comments about the behaviour of the Celtic support in Dundee?

  17. The following Notice of Complaint has been issued:

Alleged party in breach: Kelvin Wilson, Celtic FC

    Match: Dundee v Celtic – 26 December 2012

    Disciplinary Rule(s) allegedly breached:

Disciplinary Rule 200 (Violent Conduct by striking an opposing player, namely John Baird, with his elbow in the above match).

Fixed suspension offered: Yes (two matches)

Principal hearing date: Thursday, 3 January 2013

The player has until 3pm on Monday, 31 December 2012 to respond to the Notice of Complaint.

Should the player reject the fixed suspension offered, a Fast Track Tribunal will be convened on Thursday, 3 January 2013 to consider the complaint.

Rule 200: No player shall commit offences in the Schedule of Offences in Annex C. (Such offences may be dealt with by a Fast Track Tribunal following a Compliance Officer Reference under the Judicial Panel Protocol).

  19. Interesting to note on the last link from Bada bing , Lee Wallace appeal against red card upheld, the only one to have been. Funny that

Did anyone seriously think that Kelvin Wilson would have received the same ‘justice’ as lee wallace …..?

Again disagree. The authorities have ignored historical fact to appease the TV companies. The Police then excacerbated what was always going to be difficult knowing the history by failing in their duties. Anyone under the influence should not have been admitted especially those carrying fireworks. Yes once those facts have been looked at , corrected and implemented can we start to discuss why it happened.

Guess what we have been here before. See the SFA’ s stance on scheduling title deciders and New year derby’s.

This game should never have taken place at this time. Abject failure by the authorities and the police. We will still be talking about drunken neds following Scottish football teams in 100 years if there still is such a professional sport as association football in Scotland

This is also why over the years that legislation has been introduced in the statutes.

It would look like the polis are cherry picking what legislation they wish to enforce. The new offensive bill seems to be favourite. Harmless stuff

    Why ?

  22. Robert Tressell: I suggest reading the terrific wit of Flann O’Brien. One never considered that hell was to be found in the idyllic Irish countryside! There is also the great Russian writer Ivan Bunin to consider. His short stories are majestic. Regards.

Will you be the one carrying the camera and wearing the leather jacket and Hoops on the Opera House steps?

    :-)

  24. No surprise on Wilson – probably not worthy of a ban but there is enough in the footage to give the SFA enough to uphold it.

Bet Brines is raging that his back was turned (though that never stopped Collum).

Wouldn’t be surprised if we accept it and give him a rest for a couple of matches.

  27. Dundee ?

    Wasn’t there —– can’t comment .

Didn’t see it on the tele ——can’t comment

Didn’t hear it on the radio —— can’t comment –

But —– I will say this..

I saw 3 groups of absolutely oot their trees roasters in Lisbon city centre on the afternoon before the Benfica game . I was surprised at how tolerant the Lisbon polis were . .

It worries me that the Turin polis will not be so tolerant . It worries me that some of the residents of Turin will not be so tolerant. .

  28. Hi Hamiltontim: other Celtic supporters have mentioned it. A local newspaper reported it. I do not adhere to much of what is stated in the media but one assumes the local paper is not just making this all up as part of some anti Celtic agenda. Our club have also condoned the behaviour. Moreover, I have also personal experience of such behaviour from a minority of our support.

However I also have had many wonderful experiences from being part of our support. Thankfully the majority are magnificent.

  29. Guys in relation to the Hooper situation I think if he hasn’t signed a new contract in the next 10 days he should be sold. At this stage his market value is somewhere between £7M – £10M. If we got that for him then surely Neil would have £3M – £4M for a replacement. There are probably a number of good young strikers around in that price range. Remember last summer we nearly got Rudnovs from Lech for £3M. He has now scored 6 goals in 17 appearances for Hamburg…..I’m sure he would have been a success in the SPL. There are replacements out there.

Now in saying all that…..lets hope he signs the contract!!
