Armageddon-SPL strong at the bottom

788

Dundee are nine points adrift at the bottom of the SPL but made a good fist of it against Celtic last night, after a rocky start.  They held their own for a good 30 minutes either side of the interval.  They are clearly the worst team in the league but they are a pretty decent worst team.  Armageddon-SPL is strong at the bottom end.

You and I know the Celtic support, as a group and to any statistically significant level, are vastly better behaved than any supporters of any other large football club.  This is a source of enormous pride but comes at a cost.  Over 20 years later you will still hear about fruit thrown by one idiot, I do.  This is a good thing.  It means that there has been little to talk about these past 20 years.

When you benefit from the greatest reputation in football you are held to the highest standards.  No one will blame Chelsea fans when we drop the ball.  I’ve heard no reports of damage or injury at Dens last night, but 20 years from now someone will tell you what was said by a representative of Dundee today.  This will be a good thing.

Ten Men Won The League 08:52

I was chatting with someone last night regards the ticketing distribution at Dens, and he was adamant that Dundee FC should get their collar felt from the SPL/SFA.

His main beef was that he was unable to walk up to Dens and purchase a ticket (in much the same way you can walk up to Tannadice) as he was told that tickets had been distributed to supporters clubs and to CFC direct.

His thoughts on this were, that DFC therefore did not then have the names and addresses of all away supporters, which according to him is against the rules, and thus tickets then fall into the wrong hands so to speak.

Don’t know if any truth in his assertions, but in light of what ‘apparently’ took place at Dens, your Twitter quote may not be wide of the mark.

Gordon j. The herald is urging hooper to leave this morning. Several outlets allowing Sevco players to tap up former colleagues in the spl. Sigh….

    =========================================================

The transfer ban runs to the end of the summer 2013 window – effectively they can’t sign anyone until they are half way through next season.

Their income is not going to be any higher next season, in fact it will be lower given that they won’t have another share issue, I reckon unless they can sell on templeton or Wallace next year or the year after they won’t be signing any new players of any value or great abilty for a long long time. They may at best, in three years time, become a club who can buy most of the best SPL players that Celtic don’t want, unless they want to start gambling again – spend big to get CL money which may or may not come their way……..

Sevco will have a comparitively remarkable rise if they can sustain themselves for a few years and then they will find their level – battling for UEFA cup places and the odd cup win with the rest of the also rans. At best. At worst they will at some stage go bust. Here’s hoping!!!!!!

  4. RobertTressell,

But there will be the Warchest – and it is so big that it must have a capital letter.

They are allowed to sign free agents from 1 September. So they will be asking players to run down their contracts, stay as free agents through August, miss the start of the season and then sign for them.

  8. Italiabhoy @ 09:39,

The reason why we seem healthier and weathlier are two fold, one is the massive contribution science and technology has had on the World and the well being of the developed nations, we can all be pleased with that.

The second is a myth based on a huge welfare safety net funded by unsustainable borrowings that is just about keeping the fabric of our society together.

Now our debate is becoming a wee bit academic i.e. what constitutes the decline of a nation, the relative wealth of the average in the populace or Global standing.

    SO

Let me try to put my points about Baroness Thatcher in another way. During the early eighties Britain was at a major crossroads and it was wrong decision making during this time that has lead us to decline.

At that time we were appalled that 1 million people were unemployed now we would be delighted with such a statistic.

Now few would argue that an economy sustained by unwieldly, loss making nationalised conglomerates and industries was a long term recipe for success.

My point is we needed to reform in a globally sustainable, constructive and considerate manner.

Baroness Thatcher did none of this, without the misrepresentation of the Falklands’ “victory” her judgement would have (rightly in my opinion) been more vehemently questioned.

Her plethora of mistakes would have been curtailed well before the poll tax debacle that eventually did for her.

Mr Foot was no lover of Conservative Governments he was also a principled pacifist.

Why did he support the then conflict (on victory revised to war) because that is what responsible British Parliamentarians do – support our forces in time of conflict.

something everybody seems to be missing about sevco entering european cup competition – they are banned from europe the next 3 years that they qualify, not the 3 years that they are in oblivion.

who gonna sell that shower of anal waste the players required to to compete for such prestigious honours in the first place – gregs?

  19. One more try just in case:

I don’t think I’m breaking any site rules by asking this question however if I am let me know.

Any Glasgow based Tims know of any city centre pubs showing the game on Saturday?

I’m planning to meet some like minded mates so a pub with the game on would be helpful.

I know of one on the Gallowgate but was hoping for one nearer Central or Queen St.

    Thanks in advance.

  20. Doc is Neil Lennon,

Free agents can be signed at any time, including outwith transfer windows. So from 1 September they can sign any player whose contract ends in the summer – and can agree pre-contracts with them from 1 January. These players would not be able to play during August,

They can only sign players in contract from the January 2014 window.

  22. Kano got sick one night, very sick. If it was not for so many Celtic Supporters, from so many places, then Kano would be an ornament in a sterile hospital room. That is not nice because Kano still breathes and he still thinks and he is still a Celtic Supporter to his very core.

A lot of money, by a lot of people, was raised to take Kano home. He can’t ever balance the books, but he’d love to.

None of us gets more than one go on the roundabout of life.

Celtic is celebrating their 125th Birthday and indelibly stamping it into their history by encouraging all to embrace the simple ethos of the clubs founding… let’s try and help those who just don’t have more than the air that they breathe.

A lot of Celtic Supporters are doing a lot of different things to raise money for to help those less fortunate than ourselves. To a lot of people that is no big deal.

I’m determined to help Kano pay back the kindness shown to him by the Celtic Support by supporting my club to help unfortunates. No big deal.

There are some from here who have said they will help me to help Kano to help Celtic to help others.

I give up the bevie for 125 days and I give up posting on here for 125 days as of the 1st Jan.. No big deal really, Kano has done both for the best part of four years.

I ‘m going to put a wee bit aside for each day that I don’t drink or post and forward it to Celtic to hopefully fill a belly that needs a feed or to make an unfortunate hope where only darkness is their dawn.(but maybe I can have St. Pat’s day off so I can share a day with some good Tims)

I’ve only one life and when I’m gone I soon be forgotten but if I’ve ever managed to feed one hungry person, if only for one day, then my life was worth something.

No big deal to me or you but the person I fed, he/she will never know where the food came from and they won’t ever be visiting my grave to put some pretty flowers at the base of a head-stone, they’ll be too busy worrying about tomorrow.

I can live with that and like Kano, once I’m gone, I’ll know that I never changed the world, hardly left a mark, but still I took to Celtic and I did something to try and ease the pain of others… sort of the Celtic way.

  23. Marrakesh Express on

Fergie probably has the safest job in European football. He’s manager of one of the top three richest clubs in the world. He has been allowed to spend freely to get practically any player he wants. And yet this guy with 38 years experience is constantly at odds with the officials. I know Mancini went on a rant the other day but nobody comes close to the Man U gaffer.

Neil Lennon was three when Ferguson took up his first managerial post. During his first season of demonisation by the Scottish msm, ‘the firey redhead’ was told to ‘grow up’ and the ‘loose cannon’ was said to be ‘lacking the managerial experience and nous of a Sir Alex’. Lennon was even gauged against Walter the great, a man he has already outclassed in his CL career to date, and a man who, like Fergie, did not let his ‘years of experience’ stop him from picking fights with the press (Chic Young), managers (Patalainen) Fourth officials (Rugby park) and various referees including a religious slur against linesman Murphy.

Smith received not a bit of bad press but down south Fergie has been copping it from the non-Manchester msm, including Alan Brazil who today said he couldnt believe his latest actions had been dropped.

I suppose Neil Lennon has learned in under three years what Fergie and Waldo have’nt in all theirs. However just like the Dens Park fan coverage, you just know that one slip up and the gutter mob will be happy to jump on his case again.
