Armageddon-SPL strong at the bottom

788

Dundee are nine points adrift at the bottom of the SPL but made a good fist of it against Celtic last night, after a rocky start.  They held their own for a good 30 minutes either side of the interval.  They are clearly the worst team in the league but they are a pretty decent worst team.  Armageddon-SPL is strong at the bottom end.

You and I know the Celtic support, as a group and to any statistically significant level, are vastly better behaved than any supporters of any other large football club.  This is a source of enormous pride but comes at a cost.  Over 20 years later you will still hear about fruit thrown by one idiot, I do.  This is a good thing.  It means that there has been little to talk about these past 20 years.

When you benefit from the greatest reputation in football you are held to the highest standards.  No one will blame Chelsea fans when we drop the ball.  I’ve heard no reports of damage or injury at Dens last night, but 20 years from now someone will tell you what was said by a representative of Dundee today.  This will be a good thing.

At least we won’t have to play these Teuchter huns next season, or perhaps ever again at Dungdee.

  3. Hamiltontim: my last point. Thanks. No I was not there. However, unless Celtic, a local newspaper, other supporters and the police are all imaging things; one assumes there is some truth. Moreover, I have personally seen poor behaviour from some supporters. I am ashamed to say that my own behaviour has also been far from ideal in the past. I have written way too much. Hail hail.

Totally agree but once asked he had to stay in line with PL´s statement yesterday. Why do we not have a Celtic TV camera in there with a Phil or Paul attending these press conferences asking PERTINENT questions ?

Elbows was not cited by Lunny for a similar challenge (some might say far worse) in SevCo’s LC tie against Motherwell in September

It is clear bias from the SFA and can’t be left unchallenged

His comment about ‘wishing they would stay away’ feeds the shark infested waters of the MSM.

    Concentrate on the team Neil.

    ——————–

Maybe this is what Neil believes? He has more invested in Celtic than any of us (his career as well as the team he supports), and knows the pitfalls negative publicity brings. More than anyone, he knows this.

He has a right to speak out if he thinks it necessary.

The team seem to be doing OK as well :-)

Need to pick the weans up, catch any reply later.

    ———

How much is Neil Lennon actually aware of what took place in Dundee.

Just because he’s the manager of Celtic FC does not give him the right to ask Celtic supporters, the lifeblood of the club, to stay away.

  7. There is a a very strong Establishment belief that Football Supports should be non political and this mantra has rubbed off on some elements of the Celtic Support. I simply don’t subscribe to this, if for any reason a large base of any Clubs Support adheres to a Political Social Philosophy or to a Nationalistic ideal, be it Basque, Catalan or Irish etc what on earth is wrong with that. Football is Tribal and if there is a logical Historical reason for the tribalism it only makes it more understandable. We shouldn’t be told that we can’t express our sentiments or our admiration for a person, or a Cause. Wasn’t it Tommy Burns who said when you pull on a Celtic jersey you are not just playing for a team, you are playing for a People and a Cause.

  14. mickybhoy1888

both my comments about refs and commentators were made facetiously taking the mick, so to speak. However if I was to comment on the overt and open racism on display by the Dundee fans my concentration would have been overted from the game I was watching and my attention would not therefor have ended up focusing on what I was enjoying watching. My 2 facetious comments were made in seconds during the second half. I did or read any others comments during the game. At halftime and afterwards my time was spent with my son.

I hope my explanation meets your requirements. I know you know I am being honest as you already have went back to check as you posted a comment of mine.

“If you don’t intoxicate yourself to extreme levels or chant songs about the IRA – you are unlikely to be hassled by the police while watching Celtic. Is that not true? ”

    Not true.

You will get done for lateral movement.

You will get done for singing Boys of the Old Brigade or Roll of Honour (information trailed in advance by the Polis and the PF- Mr. Mulholland), songs freely available on CD and download from various (non-sectarian??) commercial outlets.

You will get done for drinking out of a water bottle.

You will get hassled if they “think” your flag might be political.

You will get done for BOTP related offences if you argue political philosophy with them

Now I am broadly in agreement with the view that we need to apologise for the behaviour of some of our fans at the Dundee game. I was not there but I trust the Celtic fans who have reported on the behaviour.

I also want to highlight the difficulties our fans face but we risk the charge of “whataboutery” when we combine the two. Our club needs to issue the apology and then, separately, without using it in mitigation for our behaviour, complain about some of the treatment our fans are receiving, including the possibility (sic) that there was racial chanting ( I heard Ambrose getting booed particularly but I did not hear that the booing was restricted to Wilson, Wanyama & Ambrose, so we must be careful only to call it racial if it was).

And finally, a pedantic point. Our club has not “condoned” our fans behaviour, it has condemned the behaviour of some of our fans on Boxing Day.

    SOT

    remember my advice

Unfortunately, many female inquiries require more than a simple yes or no response. Some of them are more like riddles. Such as this one:

    “WHICH SHOES LOOK BETTER?”

Typically you’re already late for dinner when your wife/girlfriend confronts you, with one pair of shoes on and another alongside them. This is no ordinary choice. It’s a devious chicken/egg puzzler, the sort of choice that would lead even Hobson to say to Mrs. Hobson, “Whichever, you old trout!” If you pick the shoes she already has on, she’ll think you’re trying to hurry her. If you pick the other pair, she’ll think it’s because you know you can’t pick the ones she has on. Some men try a non-linear approach and opt for a third, unoffered pair of shoes, but this is inevitably taken as either an attack on her judgement or an opportunity for her to attack yours. On no account suggest another dress. You might as well say, “You’re fat.”

This raises the question of why she’s asking you at all. She knows you don’t know which shoes look better, and she knows you don’t care, so why is she trying to elicit your opinion? This is part of an ongoing campaign to domesticate you. As part of the same campaign, she will occasionally consult you about alternative table settings or new towels. In these two cases a disdainful and dismissive “beats me” should do the trick, but don’t try that with the shoe dilemma, or you’ll miss your reservation. Instead, suggest that she try on the other shoes, then tell her the first ones look better. This lets you more or less off the hook, as long as you don’t raise a fuss when she decides that the second pair are better after all.

    Hail Hail

This involves 20 police manned video cameras trained on a particular section of the Celtic support while the entire away section (e.g Abroath recently) are ignored while the entire away section located next to the childrens section sings songs about sexual abuse … which of course in unoffensive.

The Dundee lad was trying to prevent Kelvin getting back to defend by grabbing at his right arm (possibly why the ref ‘missed’ it). Kelvin then deliberately attempts to shake the guy off the player in a ‘gtf’ manner and catches him across his coupon. Whilst it was clearly not a vicious Elbows-esque attempt, I don’t think it could be defended as inadvertent. My view would be take the 2 games and smile.

No we will get hassle from the police. I’ve had grief three times in the last two years . First time for observing an assault by a mounted cop on a Celtic fan who has been urinating in the cemetery; second time for stopping a 15 stone steward from barging into my son; and finally when I objected to a Celtic steward singing a loyalist ditty in our ground.

  28. After the rush to judgement by Burley and Craigan which was in stark contrast to that of the players involved I don’t think there is any option but for Celtic to fight the case.

If we allow television and radio commentators (normally Masons with pro Hun anti-Celtic agendas) like the pair of clowns on Wednesday to decide the mens rea or intent of players then we will be forever under strength through suspension.

This has always been an arbitrary sanction, which does not affect those teams whose games are not televised, or those whose friends in the media chose to ignore.
