Buoyed by two seasons with two clubs competing in the Europa League group stage, Scotland have reached 15th in the Uefa coefficient table. If they hold off close challenges from Cyprus, Greece, Serbia, Croatia and Switzerland, this will be enough to deliver two Champions League qualification spots for season 2021-22.
This is of no more than passing interest to perennial champions, the 10th and 11th spots are where it gets really interesting. Champions of the 10th and above place country get automatic entry into the Champions League group stage. If the previous season’s CL winners have already qualified from their domestic league, as is usually the case, the 11th place country’s champions get direct entry into the group stage.
Ukraine and Turkey currently occupy 10th and 11th spots, with Austria, Denmark and Czech Repulic also ahead of Scotland, but for the next three seasons, Scotland will lose fewer points than each of those countries. By contrast, we are ahead of all five countries last season and this.
Extrapolation is the scourge of the hopeful and we should not necessarily assume Celtic and Newco will continue to gather coefficient points at the same steady pace. But, if we were to extrapolate, this season’s performances for Scotland and the five countries immediately above us, we would overtake Ukraine, Turkey, Denmark and Czech Republic by this time next year, leaving Salzburg-inspired Austria in 10th and Scotland 11th.
The Champions League qualification competition is difficult but it is doubly difficult through the non-champions route (only two places are available this way), so I’m not too worried about splitting the Scottish TV pot with another club. The importance of nine and ten-in-a-row does not need to be stated, but a £40m bonus could sweeten the 11th successive title, should we get there.
Coming our way soon will be a fifth European spot, so points currently divided by four will likely be divided by five in season 2021-22. Let’s hope the American money arriving in Aberdeen shortly can up their game in Europe.

Sorry if Bolingoli Not fit.
PCS 9.27pm
I totally get that … people I know who have followed Celtic everywhere do not care … again I appreciate, and many others on here the Res 12 resolution but not many care … if this blog losses bloggers over this I think it’s madness but each to their own … I read the blog on Thursday with a sad face … thankfully Neil & the bhoys reminded me on Thursday night the football is what we want …. am not on CQN to right the wrongs of the world but for Celtic & football … again bringing the SFA to justice would be good … but the S F A is Scottish football … Celtic might win on the park but the rest of Scottish football need to pursue a clean game not just one club out of 42 ….
Pannysbhoy
Is O’Connell not right sided defence ?
The young Irish lad we signed from Bolton was Left sided – think he is also injured
Hello again all you young rebels.
FRITZSONG
Sorry just getting back to you from earlier.
You are correct, Brian Mac kept himself low profile while
the two you mention were in the media spotlight constantly.
Sadly we couldn’t keep him as he would have been a much
more valuable asset than them.
Think he himself felt his efforts should have been recognised
and rewarded, but no and he left.
H.H . Mick
NorrieM – Bauer on left it probably will be thinking about it, but something tells me I heard that frimpong prefers the left side or has played there before… I am probably making that up after 6 cans😂😂😂
HH
D. :)
Strike that frimpong has always played RB according to wiki
D. :)
Norrie M
I recall he was left back or central defence.
NorrieM
I hope we wouldn’t need 4 right backs.
Let’s win Tomorrow and Wednesday night first though
Pannysbhoy
He is a CH, Ireland have used at right back and sitting midfielder I believe
NorrieM
I agree two wins more important than who plays at full back.
Any word about Jozo, Boli or Elhamed? We could do with all 3 of them being fit and available to play in the final.
Great to hear Bitton being appreciated. I have said more than once, imo, he is the best passer of the ball we have among our defensive players.
Even better, looking to the future, we seem to have another generation of the Quality Street Gang coming through (and, bhoy, were the originals wonderful to watch, with, at least, imo, 3 world class players.)
Sorry guys it was Lee O’Connor is was thinking about.
Jimmynotpaul, the Candy support would have given Paddy the completley opposite reception he gets from Petershill fans.
Enjoy your kip.
Luca Connell is the young Bhoy who signed from Bolton
He is left sided – I believe is injured as well
Lee O’Connor, the Right sided CH we signed from Man Utd, and who has just made his debut with the republic
Parkheadcumsalford
I believe ? Jozo is back training
El Hammad and Bolingoli still out
Reading back now and noticed some comments about Vic Davidson
a player i watched regularly in the reserves with the quality st gang
and what a player, even big Jock was quoted in the rags as saying
” he’s better than Dalgliesh ” but he couldn’t seem to make the
transition from reserve to first team at Celtic but he always seemed
to score against us with his other team.
Then again maybe if the support had been a bit more patient with his
style of play he could have been a star.
H.H . Mick
Melbourne Mick,
My late Uncle Eddie had 2 favourite players: Stevie Chalmers and Vic Davidson. Just think how blessed we were with talent that they were never seen as in the same class as, e.g, Joe McBride and Kenny Dalglish. Yet, both had tremendous ability.
PARKHEADCUMSALFORD
Yes and i think there were similarities with Charlie Gallacher who
imo would be world class nowadays, but sometimes our support
didn’t appreciate the finer, more cultured type of player.

MM 10.19pm
Some still don’t
Jamesy Forrest CSC :-)
Melbourne Mick,
No argument from me about Charlie Gallacher, my all time favourite player. Best passer of a ball I’ve ever seen in a Celtic jersey.
Ha ha Gerry you’re kicking it all off now 8-))
PARKHEADCUMSALFORD.
Agree.
H.H . Mick
MM 10.25pm
I have never saw any of the players you bhoys speak of, always remember my old man (av posted this before) his favourite was George Connelly, I can never remember him speaking more fondly of any others… obviously Jinky & big Billy… I don’t have regrets but I wish I questioned him more … or even questioned him at all :-) … I suppose I never realised I would be on a blog typing to Celtic fans young & old from all over the world :-)
I saw your post the other day, am sticking with CQN till P67 pulls the plug as well 🍀
Heading down to our local soccer ground later today.
There’s always kids there who are local but play for other teams and
some are very talented, so a wee bit of poaching is partaken wink wink.
It’s a new and vibrant area and most of the incomers are indian, so my
ploy is to stand at the side with the parents and just happen to mention
that the first professional footballer from India was Mohammed Salim
who played for the famous Glasgow Celtic.
And it’s the Celtic academy who supplied us with most of our training
techniques here, and the head coach is a Celtic mhan like me.
Cue, job done, and another bhoy or ghirl is leaning our way.
Sometimes needs must lol.
H.H . Mick
GERRY
Big George wonderful talent, always think to myself, what if he
had got the type of understanding the Griff is getting now for
what is an illness.
H.H . Mick
MM 10.52pm
I love the Griff … Celtic is actually just football … even though I know very little of the George Connelly situation can obviously see the similarities…
One thing for sure Leigh has a manager that will not only handle him with kid gloves also know when to kick his bahookie :-)
Not read many posts lately about Neil getting the job offer in the shower
Ah well … I suppose we are all a bit fickle
Roll on the Staggies … personally I detest lunchtime kick offs but I suppose TV rules
Fellow Celts good night n god bless …
Good night n god bless
Missed it earlier..but checked my EPG…1916 on PBS America may be worth a watch…examines the Uprising and events leading to the creation of the Republic…Mon 02/12 at 16.20

Dallas…et al…whatever happened with Tontine Tim? A sad loss to the Bhlog
Melbourne Mick , George’s autobiography is a tough read but his openess and honesty about his life is very welcome .
His problems both sellf inflicted and those not of his making are discussed.
George always felt happier when he was on the Fife side of the Kincardine Bridge on the way to his home town of High Valleyfield.
He was one of the most talented players i remember playing for Celtic.
Watched The Irishman on Netflix last night.
As usual fine acting from DeNiro, Pacino etc. 3 and a half
hours long.
Amazing how much of the rid biddy you can tuck away in
that time 8-))
Oot poaching noo.
Laters.
H.H . Mick
DALLAS DALLAS
Had the pleasure of working beside George on a Grangemouth
construction project when he quit soccer, very introvert and decent
mhan.
What a talent and i will always think, what if?
H.H . Mick
i heard george suffered from depression.

Pablo – you’re an IT guy. One for you and Celtic to take forward?
Good night and hail hail.
Melbourne Mick, once his only two real pals at Celtic, David Cattenach and Davie Hay , left , George’s career with us a cert to end .
It must have been some experience working with our lost legend.
Good night all and sleep well.
Very frosty in ML5…
Wrap up well if heading to Alasdair McLean country …
Got a feeling our Leigh maybe get a starting jersey today … a wee bit gutted that Greg Taylor is out for next Sunday why oh why did the board just not part with the money before Killie played any Betfred cup games
