Avoiding Bobo, Crown Office, Keyser Soze

653

Well done to Tony Hamilton and his team at Celtic Charity as well as the 60,000 participants for a memorable weekend which confirmed the spirit and heritage of the club.  It was great to see Martin O’Neill and Kenny Dalglish revel in, as well as so many of our more recent heroes, some of whom are aging better than others.

Credit also to the English Premier League players who turned up in such numbers, and who spent 85 minutes avoiding Bobo Balde, after Robert Pires ‘met’ the central defender early in yesterday’s game.  For all the array of talent on show over the weekend to prize goes to Carlos Cuellar, who spent £11k at the charity auction in the Kerrydale Suite on Friday night, the biggest donor by some distance.

The wee guy from One Direction looked terrified from the moment he first flicked his hair on the touchline, and he was on the same team as Bobo.  I’m sure he’ll recover quickly from his knock and enjoy telling the story for decades to come.

Henrik still has it, his movement was unmistakable but ‘Big Greenock’ looked like he was still 22.

The report by the Scottish Law Reporter yesterday that the Crown Office are in possession of material in which prosecutors refer to possible “discussions between former Police Officers employed by a media firm connected to Rangers FC and serving Police officers” moves the debate on recent well-publicised leaks onto a new level.

Charlotte Fakes has apparently been reported to police for inappropriately obtaining material.  While this has yet to be established, the act of reporting the content as being inappropriately obtained, had the unintended consequence of confirming the authenticity of the material.  All of which puts the content of said material under scrutiny.

Post-Leveson the media have been cautious on reporting Charlotte Fakes material without clear evidence that a crime had been committed by ‘victims’ of the leak.  If the Crown Office have now acted, parts of the media still independent may be emboldened.

With Charlotte Fakes now as easy to find as Keyser Soze the direction of the police investigation will be difficult to predict.

My understanding was that the deid club fans sung it first in a YNWA style against us with scarves aloft and the bear silenced them by rattling in an equalizer mid song. I think less than a minute passed between their goal and ours I think.

Not my memory. Just something my old man told me. He ranks it as one of his favourite goals against Deidco.

Can’t ever remember them singing Sailing. The Celtic support sang it for years though. Not long after King Kenny signed for Liverpool, he appeared on Desert Island Discs. One of the songs he chose was Sailing. He said that the first time he had ever heard it sung by a football crowd was when he played in a match for Celtic against (I think Alloa) and the Jungle belted it out. When we sang it we used to hold up the scarves YNWA style.

The more I think about it, I can’t imagine Rankers supporters ever singing it due to its association with Rod as they always hated him due to him being a Celtic supporter. I wish the Green Brigade would reintroduce it though – a wee touch of retro :-))

I am sure Davie would have signed at Ibrox if asked. IMO, he was no bluenose though.

  7. I really thought on the tv coverage the booing of JT and CC came across as light-hearted. As for the lad Tomlinson, I couldn’t hear any booing over the top of the high pitched squealing.

Davie Moyes was the year above me at school He was unfortunately a fan of the deid club. Even when he played for Celtic reserves he was spotted with his fat Hun mate at bearsden train station before a Celtic rangers game with a Hun scarf on

You’ve just explained what livi bhoy’s father told him. They sang a filth version of Sailing. Isn’t that just typical. They don’t understand the beauty and simplicity of some songs. That’s why our supporters will always be ahead of them in creating wonderful atmospheres at football matches. You never hear anyone famous waxing lyrical on TV about the wonderful Ibrox atmosphere although wee Dick Advocaat did his very best to big it up.

only saw game on tv but def. not playing and no shots of him in the crowd, which I think there would have been.

He’s about to start a concert tour so I would have thought there was no way he’d be taking any chances on playing and given Bobo’s and Agbonlahor’s “commitment” I don’t blame him…

Your old man’s memory is spot on. It’s mine that’s going. I forgot about their parody version which delaneys dunky mentioned above. That’s what they would have been singing. No wonder we mock them. Total lack of originality. Their Union Bears are a response to the Green Brigade. You never see or hear any innovation from them. Always hanging on to our coat tails.

Was it used to demonstrate park the bus defending, or for particularly small sided games? Pretty innovative I must say, having a mobile all seated covered training ground.

Talking of Rod, he is due to play the Hydro on October 1st which so happens to be the same night that the greatest football team in the world are playing at Celtic Park against Barcelona

Given how much the last game meant to our Rod, does anyone think he will cancel the concert.

  20. Battered. Aye very good Think David Moyes supported the dark side because of a few Hun mates at school not cause of his dad

His brother kenny was a jags fan and he bust my ankle at football one day

  21. I was in the old Jungle one day when we played Killie 2-1 for us and – the Jungle was split into two seperate factions – or so it seemed – one section singing “…there’s only one Davie Moyes” – the other singing “…Moyes, Moyes get tae fluck!”

The only other time I recall this happening was in – 1989 in a SCtie v’s Hertz at CP and the same again with the fans re: Frank MacAvennie.

  23. I have read on various sites that John Terry and Cueller were booed on Sunday. If this is true that would be horrible. Or is the Meedja doing their usual?

  24. LiviBhoy - God bless wee Oscar on

    TheOriginalSadiesBhoy

I am only 35 but from memory the Rangers support were never original. They stole songs we sang the most recent example was the Glasgow Celtic champions chant. The only time they ahve been original is when it comes to their songs of bigotry. This is again something that wasn;t in the original make up of the club and was reactive to our Irish roots. They need us a lot more than we need them and it is reflective in their support and their song book. They still sing about us under the new club. They are and always have been obssesed by Celtic. They do not have one song that celebrates their club. They are all either having a dfig at Celtic or are completely bigoted, anti Catholic or ant Irish.

I hope we never have to play them again but fear they need the cash so a Scottish Cup tie is almost a certainty this season. I’m sure Lenny will ensure the Bhoys are fired up enough to make sure that they don;t have something to shout about for the next couple of years. IF we are unfortunate to play them this season I hope we give them a sound beating on the pitch.

The German version of Rod Stewart’s ‘Sailing’ is probably Ich Bin Solo – it is a really popular party song in Germany, played in bars at parties, beer festivals etc etc.

I hope your wrong about meeting them in the Scottish Cup but as you say they need the money so it wouldn’t surprise me if the SFA make it happen. I don’t want Celtic to play them again ever.

About the booing on Sunday of John Terry, Carlos Cuellar and Louis Tomlinson. That’s the problem about booing. Whether it’s pantomime booing or vitriolic booing it sounds just the same to a TV audience and it does not come across well – especially in a charity match watched throughout the country. Viewers don’t distinguish between good natured booing and the other type especially if they don’t understand the context and it gives our detractors something to use against us.

It took a little bit of the edge off a great day. It was the only negative aspect. Realistically, 60000 supporters, a host of football stars and celebrities put on a tremendous spectacle and raised hundreds of thousands of ££££££££s for charity and Stan (our No. 19) had a day that he and his family will never forget nor will we.

As for the 3 players in question John Terry, Carlos Cuellar and young Louis Tomlinson, many on here and I’m sure on other Celtic forums have passed on their thanks to them for their efforts and contribution to Stan’s big day. I would like to pass on my thanks to all three of them and to everyone else who played a part on Sunday. A great achievement.

A special word for Carlos Cuellar. What a tremendous gesture in contributing £11000 to Stan’s charity. Very, very generous gesture Carlos. Oh and one more thing …………. Is there any chance of you signing for Celtic. We could do with a very good, experienced centre back to partner Big Virgil for the CL. :-))

I remember Beckham getting the treatment that night. I also remember after the match a crowd of youngsters were waiting to get autographs from the MU team as they come out and boarded their bus. Each player came out and went straight on the bus until Beckham appeared, second last. He stood and signed every autograph while his team mates sat and waited. The player who came out after him also began to sign the autographs for the kids but I just can’t remember who that was. Anyway, my opinion of the man was formed that night. He might not be the brightest and he might have done some silly things but he’ll always be ok in my book.
