Balance shifted to runners unconvincing with the ball

490

After so much slow build-up play this season, and so many misplaced passes, the sight of Roberts, Christie, Allan and Griffiths pinging the ball around the field was a revelation. I know the game was won before the three substitutes grabbed hold of things, and that there are vastly more challenging scenarios than Inverness at home, but the new blood have asked a big question of the incumbent three attacking midfielders.

The comfort on the ball the three substitutes brought was also contagious, Lustig looked less like a panicked fawn as he confidently back-heeled the ball into space.

The balance in the team has shifted damagingly in favour of players who can run, or perhaps jump, but who are unconvincing with the ball at their feet. So much so, Craig Gordon clears the ball up the field, instead of playing-in Bitton or a central defender, more than we’ve seen from a Celtic keeper in decades.

Christie, Roberts and Allan will not change this overnight (the latter’s misplaced pass against Ajax was costly), but they are doing enough to justify some faith in their selection. New Douglas Park should be an ideal opportunity to strut their stuff.

I see the club’s been fined 13,000 euros. Apart from the BBC who are saying it’s 13,000 pounds.

Maybe they think 13,000 euros is not quite enough………..

To answer your question from yesterday.

Seems the “coward”(© some on cqn) took more than one, but less than a handfull for the team. Just. One administered at half time.

Not under the current management. Catch any reply later. HH.

  3. Which posters challenge your attitude to gratitude?

Not to be taken seriously but the points made in this article on a subject I mentioned yesterday in respect of atmosphere at CP (gratitude) got me thinking.

Which then got me thinking why should I do all the work? :)

I’ll be up front and say Neganon2 rips my knitting because of his negativity, but the challenge there is to try and see issues as he does and in doing so perhaps be persuaded that although I don’t like the way he goes about trying to make change what he wants changed has merit.

KevJ used to annoy me but not so much now. I don’t know if he has mellowed or I have. Perhaps he is teaching me that what makes me happy is not necessarily the same for others.

For the more mature cqn readers, every time I see callum McGregor run, I immediately think of the Dick Emery character of the wee wummin who walked along swinging her handbag.

Maybe a connection between improved ( or more sustained) periods of fitness under the present manager because James was not subjected to pain killing injections?

IMO, such injections cause players to do more damage as pain due to injury has the effect of forcing you to allow recovery time rather than just continue despite the injury.

Do you know much about our scouting operations in Spain?

There is a player currently on the books at Vallecano who was loaned out to Reims in January I believe – right winger names Lass Bangoura.

The guy is great to watch, pace, control, trickery, makes things happen. Could be available for a fee in the summer well within our budget.

I would assume we are aware of him but with plenty deadwood to get rid of I’d be considering a move for this guy, still only 23, can also play up front.

Dead wood? I hope you don’t mean James Forrest?

That allegation has never been proved(!)

Btw,James’ girlfriend still has some time left as a student. He doesn’t intend moving away from her,I gather.

His mate tells me that he hasn’t turned down Celtic’s offer, and that he was just expecting a straightforward renewal.

All very strange. Whether you rate him or not,it certainly seems from that that his departure is not what he had in mind.

That’s not ‘celebrating their heritage’,that’s deliberately inflammatory.

Obviously you were being ‘tongue in cheek’ when likening players who get cautioned whilst playing the game and those ‘nutters’ with flares, who continously cost the club substantial sums of money, season in and season out.

When identified these ‘camp followers’ – they are not supporters, quite the opposite, they are detractors, must be ‘hounded out’ – named and shamed and treated like the pyriahs that they are.
