BBC need to fortify or shut the doors

It doesn’t really matter to me how other people write their own history.  If Queens Park claim to be the same Club as the Queen of Clubs, they are welcome to, as long as they respectfully allow me to express scepticism.  Fortunately, Queens Park’s business model is not dependent on making such an outlandish claim.

A whole lot of nonsense has been written on the subject of a recently liquidated football club, “it was the holding company that was liquidated”, when it wasn’t actually a holding company, and then we have claims about advice from a “panel of the London Stock Exchange”, which was quickly withdrawn.

We are asked to believe that a football club cannot go out of business.  It’s an interesting thought, not one I subscribe to, but interesting nonetheless.  If you are happy with this belief, fair play to you, it doesn’t matter what anyone else believes.

I’ve met Jim Spence.  He’s a guy who emerged from the Dundee Untied fanzine world and established a reputable career in the game.  His affinity for United has never been hidden, nor should it be.  United, as all clubs, have gone through periods of turmoil but Jim has called things as he has seen them, with his own club, and with others.

This week Jim made a comment about a football club which went into liquidation.  It was more tempered than comments made by a former manager and director of the liquidated club, by the chief executive of its successor club, by all the contemporary newspaper coverage, and by the successor club’s current head of PR.  Despite this, Jim has been on the receiving end of a sustained campaign by the thought police.

Jim may privately think what those at the successor club once said, but if he also wants to express those thoughts, the consequences can be acute.

He’s not alone.  I know others in the media who have told me straight that they are not prepared to touch the Newco/Sameco subject, the resultant hassle is not what they got into journalism for.

Charlotte Fakes has given us a glimpse into how powerful people can manipulate and control Scotland.  It has given reason to pause ahead of next year’s big decisions.  The BBC and only the BBC are strong enough to stand up against bullying, you can forget the commercial media for one simple reason, this subject is the equivalent of commercial self-harm.

It wouldn’t seem like the weekend without Rangers International writing about going legal on someone or other, although I suspect they’ll be content having played to the gallery with this one and not trouble the BBC, but questions remain for the BBC, no matter what happens next.

I consume enormous volumes of BBC output every month, it is my first port of call for news, and often my last.  It is one of the best aspects of British life, but if it can be intimidated like the commercial media, there is no point in it existing in the first place.

Fortify your journalists or shut the doors.

Brilliant day today, emotional Walk On at the start, and even more emotional seeing all the legends together.

We’ve had some right good players over the years.

Big Bobo – quality, I’d play him in the first team !

  5. Yes thought tommo would have shown up today…….maybe he”ll be back for the next encounter…….good to see BOBO returning……..

  6. What a Club, what a support always proud to be a Bhoy but my heart was bursting with pride today almost as much as the tears that were pouring from my eyes. Still emotional about it. There is not a club or another support on this planet who could serve up such a spectacle and all in the name of charity.

It was great seeing the old Martin O’Neill stalwarts in action and some of those Bhoys can still play. If needed, this was a reminder of how good that team really was, a team that would have had more domestic success if it were not for the cheating that went on in our game. But today is not a day to discuss these matters. Today belongs to Stan ‘The Man’ Petrov a true gent and a fantastic player, oh to see the likes of a Stan in our present team.

On Tuesday our PP asked us to define humility in a Catechises class, I wish the question was being asked this Tuesday, I would point him in the direction of Stan Petrov – the living definition.

It has been a hard week for some of the ghuys on this blog like Starry Plough and Larrybhoy and we can only give them our support by offering words of comfort during this time. I know our thoughts are with both of them.

    Does it really matter?

You’ll have your view and I’ll have mine. I won’t say who I think is in the wrong and frankly I don’t care.

But PL is probably the easy guy to blame.

And blame him for the club being financially well run.

Police Scotland to investigate itself as Prosecutors reveal allegations PR team’s ex-cops may have asked serving colleagues for leaks on HMRC investigations

AMID an on-going investigation by Police Scotland into leaks of private emails, documents & sound recordings relating to Rangers football club and the saga which ultimately led to the club’s demise into insolvency, it has now emerged from sources at Scotland’s Crown Office & Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) that retired & currently serving Police officers may be implicated in the burgeoning scandal. According to prosecutors, the revelations if true, may make it difficult for Police Scotland to impartially investigate the affair.

Yesterday (Saturday), sources within the Crown Office identified allegations contained in material now in the possession of prosecutors which refer to possible discussions between former Police Officers employed employed by a media firm connected to Rangers FC and serving Police officers in what would have been Strathclyde Police under the command of Chief Constable Stephen House.

Quotes from documents in the hands of prosecutors appear to indicate suggestions of discussions between “internal security people” and “still serving colleagues” with a view to obtaining details of operations & investigations being conducted by HMRC officials regarding the football club’s tax affairs.

Prosecutors now appear to be convinced such conversations and possibly meetings between ex Police Officers & serving Police Officers took place.

In an unannounced move, a senior Crown Office prosecutor has now been appointed to look at whether persons identified in the leaked documents may be charged with criminal offences over revelations that photographs & personal details of HMRC staff and civil servants may have been obtained and published online in an effort to derail investigations on the Rangers tax case in 2011.

Prosecutors are also looking into whether the information identifying HMRC personnel may have been provided by serving Police Officers to former colleagues and those with an interest in defending the football club from the tax investigations.

Meanwhile the Twitter account known as Charlotte Fakeovers (@charlotteFakes) at the heart of the investigation has been deleted and is no longer available. A number of documents published by the twitter account have also been withdrawn from circulation.

No one from the Crown Office or Police Scotland was available to give official comment on the current state of the investigation.

The corruption involved with the death of Rangers runs so deep and is over such a long time and has involved so many in my opinion we will never get to the bottom of it.The danger with that is all the cheats will not be eradicated and when Newco reach the SPL they will be the favoured club of the establishment and the cheating will resume as though it was normal and natural and that for me will signal the end for Scottish football. H.H.

I’ve been watching Celtic for 50 years, but I sense the younger generation are taking the club to a new dimension. Something good is happening, whether its CL qualification or beating Barca,? Maybe its the solidarity behind the manager after his death threats etc or perhaps the death of our cheating rivalor even the Green Brigade.

It might even be purely spiritual, but whatever it is, its one good time to be a Tim.

  23. It can’t be the end of Scottish Football just because of one club. Are you kidding me ?

All we have to do is have the SFA apply he rules properly then the clubs to support the appropriate sanctions that follow. They may be banned for five years. That would be OK.

  24. Just watching the Last Night of the Proms. There don’t seem to have been too many Tims in either Glasgow Green or Belfast, certainly few joining in YNWA, unlike Hyde Park.

Yes sir, the House of cards is about to fall.

BBC about to get tough on Sevco, more journos admitting the truth ala Spence and Cosgrove.

The MSM are now realising they have spun a fantastical story and realise their credibility is in bits.

Paul Larkin’s book due out in November will I believe bring questions to be answered from some of Scotland’s most powerful people.

We will see justice yet, we must bide our time .

We must never give up the fight!

  28. Just dropping a quick line with a positive post;

Today was a magical day – and I watched it from the TV.

If the last few weeks have taught Celtic fans anything (and I am what certain people would label a mine shafter / glass half empty etc etc) its that the highs can get so high theyre worth all the lows and more.

The sense of pride and belonging to witness what Alan Stubbs correctly described as something no other football club in the world could have replicated will stay with me forever.

Today was another chapter written in the epic history of the Celtic family.

    Well done to everyone.
