I only hope we can get the requisite players. I think we need our manager to do a “Martin O’Neill” and bring in the likes of Sutton, who had a point to prove. Scott Sinclair would seem to be in that bracket. Whether we can identify that quality of player and get them in is what concerns me.

I was very proud of Celtic last night maybe a little disappointed in the way we let it fizzle out at the end.
However what I did notice was that the German midfield were out on their feet in the last 15, we ran the legs off them and looked the fitter stronger team at the end even at 11 each. Difference for me was that they had players in every position who were comfortable on the ball and lots of pace everywhere, this of course is reflected in the relative cost of the squads. I reckon we are two or three players away from genuinely competing in the group stages, I would love to think those 2 or 3 are already at the club and continue to develop.

Aye,agreed. A wee bit of optimism is a bad thing for a Tim. We suddenly think we can beat anybody.
Which,of course,we can. And have.
IMO,the way to view our individual performances this season is
Is he better than last year, looking more like a Celtic player?
Most,I think,get the thumbs-up there.
Do you think that BR views that player as a medium-term keep?
Thumbs-down for most this time.
He has to be realistic about the limitations of our more average players, and the ambitions of our better ones. And go about replacing them while improving things.
And the board have to be realistic about the cost/benefits of this. No saving income for the bad years, not when those bad years are caused by saving our income in the first place.

Undoubtedly some ‘what ifs’ around the result but bearing in mind the squad we have, the injuries and the limitations we are all well aware of it was a fantastic performance and a fantastic result. Had McGregor missed prior to the penalty it would’ve been nowhere near as roundly criticised. Does anyone think we’re building a team around him? Does anyone think he’ll do a lot better for us while he’s with us if we help him get over it very quickly?
If you look back through the game you could make two video compilations of Stuart Armstrong, polar opposites. Slipping and giving the ball away, dreadful stuff. And dynamic, pressing forward play, and for the last 20 minutes I don’t think he missed with a pass. Never ever hid, always involved, keen to move it forward sharply. Must persevere ahead of Bitton, Stuart will possibly have taken more from last night as a learning experience than any other player.
Rogic is an enigma. What a player, I mean really, what a player. What a conundrum over having the lungs of a 3 year old.
Even now after his great season to date I didn’t know Brown had that in him. That was world class.
Sinclair is a joy. A bit isolated, doesn’t seem to have much of a relationship yet with Izzy, but when on the ball you do move forward in your seat.
Gamboa was panicked for the whole first half. Got more adventurous and needs to build confidence. I though Forrest and Izzy both played very discipline roles. James was clearly told to be more aggressive at half time and for the period he was on in the 2nd half he troubled them for sure. Roberts, while probably the most skillful player in the squad, could not have done that disciplined role and he should credit Forrest for the platform to come on and put in the performance he did. At the same time you can see that he can be simply shrugged off when he’s trying to defend. The number 10 role awaits Paddy.
I think Lustig is a centre half, and Erik is growing in stature all the time. Gordon is asked to take the ball to his feet a lot in our system. His poorer passes (other than the one to Brown) were generally when he had few options and at least were not dangerous, he’s doing OK.
For a lone front man Moussa is a giant and had them on the back foot often. Always looks dangerous. Statistically he’d our poorest pass completion rate but that’s with so few options and he’s a colossus in our team.
This isn’t the team that will get us to the last 16 in 2 or 3 years as Brendan has said we’ll be, but in the meantime I am behind them all the way. They are doing their best with great guidance, you honestly can’t ask for any more than that or fail to support it 100% between transfer windows.

Well, I think it’s clear we need some quality in central midfield. Should be the priority in January.
I think we should be looking at Chalobah of Chelsea. He’s very highly rated down there but Chelsea managers will never give youth a chance when Roman is looking over their shoulder.
He has 18 months left on his deal. Rodgers probably knows some people at Chelsea who would recommend him.
Hunderbirds are Gone on
I thought that was a brave performance last night. As the game wore on, we played our way in, and eventually gained the ascendancy. IMO the improvement in attitude and performance from the Parkheid/Celtic Park tie was plainly evident and impressive.
Some on here heavily criticising us for retaining possession and probing for openings in the last 15 minutes (we created a great one that McGregor spurned). “Punt it forward”? Jeez, it’s no Kilmarnock we were playing. BMG were more than capable of snatching a winner if we ceded easy possession with too many players in forward positions.
Are these critics the same people who slaughtered us for pushing too hard, and committing too many players forward, at the end of the game that we lost at the death against Ajax last year?
Our goalkeeper played well and made some crucial saves. Sure his distribution could be better, but that is not all his fault, BMG did a great job closing down our defenders when Craig had the ball. He can improve.
I thought the four defenders played very well. That four had hardly played together before last night. Great concentration and grit. N.B. Last night was an away Champions League tie against a Bundesliga team.
Brown and Armstrong both played well in a very hard shift in the midfield, where they were mostly outnumbered. We learned last night that Armstrong is a much better option in central midfield than Bitton. Yes, he gave away possession easily sometimes, but he is always trying to play forward, and generally is at least in the offensive half, when he loses possession, unlike Bitton who normally loses possession 30 yards from our own goal.
Forrest and Sinclair were well policed, and found the going difficult, but both showed great effort, and Sinclair eventually imposed himself. A great bit of skill for the shot that hit the inside of the post. Very unlucky that did not go in.
Rogic was overpowered by their midfield to an extent. However he never hid, and if he can raise his game slightly, his quick feet and close control could unlock many defences at this level.
I thought this was Dembele’s best game for us. He was immense. Never gave the defence a moments peace, chased down everything, won a lot of high balls, showed great power and pace on his forward runs. A magnificent performance from him was capped by winning the penalty, and showing his strong temperament by slotting it away.
Rodgers (and the coaches) deserve great praise. The improvement in the team in the few short months he has been with us, is frankly incredible. Eight of the starting eleven were the same players that Ronny worked with and who frankly drowned at this level last year, the improvement in performance level is stunning.
Finally, a great shift from the support, who once again did us all proud. I think the result and performance should fill us all with pride, and optimism for what is ahead.
P.S. – We need to get some of those green lights for the stadium roof – Looked brilliant.

Last night shows how far we have come.
To have a pass completion rate away in Europe of 80%+ is an achievement. Broonie was over 90%??
Also noticed that we struggled in the first 15 mins to cope with their high pressing game.
Its something we rarely have to play against and after about 20 mins or so we worked it out and played more possession based football.
Then we started to press them higher and take possession of the ball from them where we can hurt them.
We have had 2 draws in this campaign that with a wee bit more experience we could have easily turned into wins.
Thats for next year.
