BT’s successful £897m bid for UK Champions League and Europa League rights is one of the most significant commercial developments for Celtic in years – if we continue to qualify for the Champions League group stage.
This money, £299m per season, more than double the current deal, is paid directly to Uefa. What participating teams receive is directly linked to the value their domestic TV rights raise. If Scottish clubs participate, they earn 10% of the UK distribution.
Scottish Premiership TV rights are currently shared by BT and Sky but they are worth a fraction of what they went for the last time a competitor (Setanta) made a genuine challenge to Sky. It would literally take loose change from BT’s budget to remove Sky from the required list of providers for Scottish football fans. Whatever the next SPFL deal looks like, having two major players bidding should ensure it is worth a lot more money.
The same is true for English football rights. 20 years ago Sky built their UK business on the back of English Premier League broadcast rights. If BT want to supplant them in the TV market, enhance their ISP position and secure a lead in the emerging services on-demand market, English Premier League rights will be the major battleground.
BSkyB share prices is down around 10% today, reflecting the reality that they will either have to pay a whole lot more for the same rights in future, or they risk losing market share. I’d be very happy to dump Sky, which has recently resembled a tax on committed Scottish football fans without the corresponding revenue spend.

Let’s talk about the weather next.
Do you think that Barcelona has a better micro climate than say Larkhall or Chapelhall
Morning all. Currently, pale blue sky but very windy. We just had a downpour. Guess there will be more of the same through the day.
Are we seeing the ole end game being played out down Govan way for a second time??
Summa 20:30
Seems the managers response to that CU thing questioning the quality of the football was ‘Total nonsense…unbeaten in league playing CL and we are always flexible with formations’ there you go, we have flexible formations, the football is great.

It was interesting to note that a comment re the lack of a minutes silence on the Ross County facebook page had a large number of responses from people with RFC badges in their profile picture. Too many people offended by the fact that Celtic fans didn’t get the opportunity to “disgrace” themselves which would have allowed these people to be even more offended.

Hope yer well pal
Email sent to the Dutch Embassy:
“In my experience, most Scottish people have a general concept of the Dutch as an very friendly, polite and helpful nation. That impression took a savage knock last week owing to the behaviour of the Amsterdam Police.
I accept that there was bad behaviour from a very small number of Celtic fans but even that was in response to violent acts by the police. Furthermore, Celtic FC will deal with those fans. I hope the Dutch Authorities will do likewise with a police force who have badly tarnished the reputation of Holland.I could go on with some shameful accounts but I am sure you will have been well enough informed of this blight on your national reputation.”

Morning sir.
I have to say – from one Jungle Bhoy to another – yer comments about
Martin O’Neill are at best – barking
at worst – numb nutted :)
Martin O’Neill – bought success ?
Oh yeah ?
MO’N spent money that was there to be spent – he wizny given this mysterious
‘blank cheque-book’ that some of his cheap diggers allude to.
Cheap diggers like Brian Quinn for example. imo
What is conveniently forgotten about MO’N’s achievments for Celtic is that his success at the club was understated due to the – underhand activities being carried out by our
greatest rivals both on and off the pitch.
When MO’N came to us – he had to take on an already assembled huns squad of what ?
£100 mill ?
What could be entertained about ‘this’ particular era of the club if, want to be cynical ?
Is that – MO’N was DD’s ‘cheap’ alternative to – Gus Hiddink ?
MO’N wasn’t in control of his emotions ?
Maybe not as much as BTM was ?

Does anyone ever remember partaking in Double White Tornadoes, served by Angus in the Saracen Head, before going to watch the Hoops on a Saturday?
Does anyone, like myself, have terrible memory lapses of Celtic home games in early 80s?
Was anyone on here sober at the fitba in late 70s / early 80s?

Catch up for a beer on your wee trip home.

Aye that would be good, trying to have more spare time for that than I did when I was back last month, pre/post AC Milan game a possibility.

My father goes to mass every day and was telling me that
one of his fellow parishoners – a 78 year old man – was in a hospital
in Amsterdam after falling victim to the police brutality that went on
last week. I’m told that he didn’t want to speak to the police in the hospital
no wonder. His only connection back home has been through the local
catholic priest over there.
IMO – that is a disgraceful state of affairs.
JJ
I’m sorry but where is the evidence of, “bad behaviour from a very small number of Celtic fans”?
I’ve yet to see footage of Celtic fans doing anything other than being savagely beaten.

The English media haven’t really made a big deal about it down here.Likewise they didn’t when Man Ure and Man Shitty fans had their troubles in SinCitydam.
Did notice on YouTube some bottles getting thrown at a tram though. To be fair they could have jumped all over that like the areswipes of the Scottish MSM….but they didn’t ,thankfully.
They did mention police provocation,so I reckon the reporting has been fairly balanced if understated south of the border.

Maybe The Celtic View is best suited to your views.
That is the difference between Celtic and clubs such as Ajax.
Celtic fans self-police and would not allow hooligans to tarnish their clubs reputation.
While the large majority of well behaved Ajax fans just sit watch as their hooligans cause havoc and bring disrepute on the club.
Of course the huns is another story.
ryecatcher/JJ
I’m not being deliberately obtuse here but on the footage it is clear that bottles are being thrown. There is nothing, from what I’ve seen, that clearly shows that they were thrown by Celtic supporters.
I’m a bit concerned that we fall into a media trap here and just accept that, “Oh well, Celtic supporters must have been involved at some point in all this!”

I believe PL gets the bulk of his remuneration from the fiscal year performance driven bonuses?
Therein lies the problem……..if we keep players the turnover is low and the PL’s bonus is low.
If we sell the players then the turn over is higher and so is PL’s bonus.
Something has to give………..
Maybe PL’s earnings should be loaded at the front end and thereby negating his need to move players on for financial reasons (and self gain)…..or at least slowing the process down from say an 18 month turnaround to 4 seasons……..and allowing the manager the opportunity to build something worthy?
Successful though the buy-develop-sell strategy is it risks putting attendances on the road to terminal decline….they are already slipping.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>=>>>
You’re damned if you do, and you are damned if you don’t ……. If you look for negatives, you will soon find them……
Well big Peter has found us a new star in China is that in his remit or does Lennie go and look at the player before we sign him ? H.H.

Its unmistakeable isn’t it? All the signs are there, you can almost smell it. It’s palpable. They’re going bust again…..and soon.

Your getting nearly as excited as me ….. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
So, would I be right in saying that – £30k a week will be available to the manager’s
budget when Joe (the ghost)Ledley walks to….wherever in Jan ?
Or will it be swaaaallied-up in somebodies ‘bonus’ scheme ?
67 heaven…..unfortunately son of Sevco will be even more snarling and vicious than it’s current dying parent.
Judging by the comments of the dignified alkie Malcolm Murray.
