Calmness will prevent Big Dan Moments

921

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a home game; 4th August, against Aberdeen.  Since then we’ve played five games on the road, three of which involved international travel, with two games in the Highlands.

Statistical analysis shows that form suffers when teams are forced to pile-up away fixtures.  Training schedules are interrupted as travel eats into time which would otherwise be spent fine-tuning fitness or working on defensive/forward strategy.  Instead Celtic have improved enormously from their Flag Day at the beginning of the month, despite, or perhaps, because, Neil Lennon has indulged in extensive use of a squad rotation policy.

No one at Celtic will be complacent ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League play-off, the ghost of Ross County in 2010 and Inverness in 2011 will see to that.  One ‘Big Dan Moment’ is all it takes to turn a comfortable lead into a tight tie with a player deficit, but I suspect Neil Lennon will be more concerned with putting the brakes on his players, rather than motivating them.  A calm and organised performance is required.

I made that up but it could be true.

    You never know.

  4. I defo think Johnny Russell is a superior player to Goodwillie. He will only get better. I don’t know if Goodwillie will. Russell has speed, skill, with great close control, even at pace, has a decent football brain and is turning into a very confident finisher ( which was the one part of his game you had to question). Like all quality young players he continues to improve at a rapid rate. I am really impressed by his ability to deftly control long balls over the top with one touch. He has a really sublime touch. That is a difficult skill to master and it gives a striker a massive advantage over defenders ( doesn’t give a stopper time to organize themselves properly) and creates space to manufacture a shot. I worry that some English club comes in with a bid soon enough and sucks us into a bidding war- we cannot afford to butt heads with cash rich clubs that can easily spare wads of silly money on a ‘gamble’.

  6. DBBIA & Mighty Tim, sympathies and prayers for both on your loss.

Day off today, and just spent last 3 hours catching up from yesterday.

Why is CQN so Good – the music and memories (6-2, 4-2 & 2-0 all on this day & was at all 3) catching up this morning – Brilliant

  7. Is Stokesy the only player who’s got worse since he’s been out of the team? Other players who have been out of the team for a while can develop into world class players when they are out. Especially on blogs.

  8. DBBIA,

just read back and saw your sad news.

However, as you say, your mum will be in a better, happier place now.

Sincere Condolences though and thoughts and prayers with you and yours my friend.

  9. Philbhoy- that is good news, hope the back holds up.

I’m fine- well apart from missing the game on Wed, booked a midweek break at Loch Earn, didn’t realise it clashed with the CL qualifiers, no way out of it. :-(

  10. Sent a tweet to Gregory Loannidis this morning regarding the dead club losing titles here’s my ? and his reply.

@hen1rik: @LawTop20 I’m surprised the Sevco fans haven’t begged you to help them with their cheating so they won’t lose titles.

@hen1rik how do you know they haven’t?

    Hector @hen1rik 27 Aug

@LawTop20 I know they have i was being smart. They’re obsessed with not losing titles which they cheated other clubs out of.

Just the wee teams in this part of the draw, like Sevco.

    ———————-

i was just teasin bud, in case some of them are looking in.

I did have a wee look at Rangers Media blog last night, see if Sally doesnt win a cup, or indeed is knocked out by a team outwith the SPL, they will go ballistic.

but I think thats very unfair, very seldom does a new club enter a league and win trophies in their first season.

  13. DBBIA,

Sorry to hear about the passing of your mum. The pain will be deep and very raw at this moment (and may even get worse over the coming months), but hopefully eventually it will ease and as has been said above you will be able to remember and smile about the good times you shared.

I lost my own mum 14 months ago; it has been a real struggle but eventually hopefully you will come through it.

The kind words and support offered hopefully help. I am not the kind of person who finds it easy to open up, but similar to yourself I shared my loss and asked for help with the funeral arrangements (poem recommendations) and the love shown to me that day will stay with me forever. It is what makes this site and our club/ people special.

Good luck with the funeral and weeks ahead. Take care!

  14. Kayal 33-WonkyR-I agree on Russell, loads of development to come, same as Watt.I think Hooper might go before Friday……Get Bangura and Murphy shipped out asap, and I seen a Croatian striker linked this morning.Time to freshen things up.

Not long back and would like to offer my sincerest condolonces on the sad passing of your mother.

I know what you have gone through, as my own mother suffered from alzheimers for almost ten years before passing away in 2006.

    May she rest in peace.

  17. A man from Scotland has appeared in court charged in connection with trouble at a parade in Belfast on Saturday.

James Boyce, 38, from Ben Vorlick Drive in Glasgow, was charged with disorderly behaviour.

He was also charged with running through a protest with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

The accused travels to Northern Ireland about four times a year to attend and take part in parades, the court heard.

A detective opposed bail on the grounds that there was a risk the accused would not turn up for future court appearances.

She also said the police had concerns about the possibility of re-offending and that there were more contentious parades scheduled for September.

Appearing at Belfast Magistrates Court, defence lawyer said Mr Boyce’s time in custody had been traumatic for him and his family.

He also said the accused would lose his job if he was not given bail, however the district judge refused bail and remanded Mr Boyce in custody for four weeks.

  18. Russian game on at the moment, Sibir Novosibirsk vs Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. wonder what the supporters songs/chants are like?

  19. From the malcontents on the Dark side of FF:

…I watched that f***ing s*** on the box yesterday…I’m sorry but Ally has so go…NOW! We are the greatest club in the world ever! FACT! I’m sick of people saying that he has been a rock. Yes he has been a rock…but it is a clay one…it looks like a rock, seems like a rock…but when the tide comes in one too many times then the ‘rock’ breaks up and is washed away out into the sea. Yes he is the MOTHER and the FATHER of the rangers family but sometimes you just have to accept your parents don’t have the right parenting skills…well that is Ally! No one can question is status as a Rangers legned but he is washout of a manager, a real chump. Well I’m sorry but I just can’t accept defeat. Not even one. It is not the Rangers way. We have to win no matter what. I will accept nothing else other than victory…even if it is means by hook or crook, hoodwinkery, fraud, pulling a fast one on your rivals…WHATEVER it takes takes we have to do it to WIN! WE URRA PEEPUL! They say cheats never prosper but they do. Even if its short term. Winning is all that matters. Look at 9-in-a-row…nobody EVER questioned anything back then…why all this talk of stripping titles now? When these bitter b******s like Liewell weren’t around we did alright in the Walter glory years. Nobody asked questions then- so whats changed? This country is infested by bigoted cockroaches in the media who are out to get us and we have to put them back in their paddy stations at the bottom of the s***pile where they belong…but when we get beat or draw like yesterday at Berwick I think of Liewell and his smiling face…my head feels like a walnut trapped in a vice…being crushed with a painful intensity…ma daddy told us we urra peepul…then the buzzing starts like a power tool at the back of my head and everything goes dark…the click! click! click! Plunging down into darkness and falling into a shaft of emptiness…I am falling and falling…Liewell laughing…his smiling face…eventually I come back to myself and the room was a scene of devastation…I had ripped the door off the hinges and used it to smash the TV up…I had a mouth full of plaster after I had chewed a hole in the wall…I cannot accept defeat! Liewells face! Smiling! Laughing at us! We must win at all costs! I need to go and lie down!

  23. back from my weeks break in Barca, nearly caused a stooshy in Flahertys as I was the only Tim in the place and 4 big Germans wanted to watch the B-M- Gladbach game. Peace was restored when the barmaid set up another screen for them, they were lucky boys, 5 more minutes and I would have set the Mrs on them. BTW ,Flaherty`s was rotten to watch the game ,I went to Temple Bar for the 2nd half.

Good sequence of results, but we are getting a bit ahead of ourselves. We were very poor in first half last week and big FF was the star , closely followed by Sammi. Glad to see he was rested for Wednesday.

If we keep our cool and do not charge at this match,we will be okay.I would go with same formation, I assume VW is back? Keep Forrest and Watt for later , looking forward to it I hear around 50,000 tickets have been sold , anyone have an update on that?

  24. I see the record published the servco 666 fans singing banned racist songs ….

I politely declined to discuss the matter and hung up.

Has anyone any idea what this was about?
