Carter-Vickers, asset management and some hope

336

Celtic last broke their transfer record four years ago this week when they paid PSG £9m for then-20-year-old striker, Odsonne Edouard.  Yesterday’s deal to acquire Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham will almost certainly exceed this.  The initial £6m valuation will inevitably rise to £10m.

Cameron was our best defender last season and without him, the job of retaining the title, or competing in the Champions League, would look significantly more difficult.  He becomes a permanent Celtic player at 24, having spent four years on loan in the lower leagues in England before a temporary year at Celtic as part of Ange Postecoglou’s new regime.

He is 17 days older than Odsonne.  In asset management terms, he is a generation ahead of where the striker was when he arrived here from PSG.  In age terms, Cameron is closer to where Christopher Jullien was when he came to Celtic as a 26-year-old.  This means a lot of scouts have had a look at the player and none in the English top-flight have moved for him.  We can, therefore, hope he could be a mainstay in the Celtic team for some years to come.

The defence still needs work but we have paid a solid foundation this week.  Welcome to Celtic, Cameron.

Did some good with the money from RM .

  3. What about Ramsey he must have made a few $$ from the bench and medical room.Amazing powers as they could both play 90mnts. for Wales.

I think many footballers earn obscene amounts of money … but it’s only what the clubs want offer

Probably guilty of it maself … urging Celtic just to pay mega millions for any old signing :-)

“what does AM RLC, FC mean?”

    ———————————-

Just checked GENE’s source and the acronym AM RLC appears against Bale’s name under the column “Position.”

When you compare it to that for other players, it seems to denote: Attacking Midfield. Right, Left Center.

Man Citeh replacing Jesus with Haaland could be worth about 50 extra goals a season :-)

One thing about Haaland he must take his finishing from his mum canny remember his old man being that prolific … wonder how much he’ll be earning, got a feeling he won’t be worrying about his leccy bill and the old cost of living crisis

Haaland nets second from penalty spot, Forsberg replies for Swedes. Now 2-1.

You could be right about the big Norwegian. He is scoring goals at a rate faster than Ronaldo did at his age. For a big unit, he is also incredibly quick. He will do very well at Man City, and you are also right that he won’t be worrying where his next pound is coming from.

For a youngster his numbers are crazy … funnily enough when I have watched him he never strikes me as a great footballer :-) who needs ability when you can just score goals … he puts a fair shift in as well, was gutted when he was out for Dortmund against the Huns would have like to have saw Goldson & co keep him quiet …

although give me Kyogo every day of the week :-)

The on-the-pitch standing area at Ibrox last night was first come first served. People were queueing from Friday for best position in front of the stage. The Sunday Mail, in it’s customary melodramatic style, made a big fuss about people having to queue for 3 hours. It was THEIR choice to queue long before the gates opened. The fact that it was raining didn’t help but that is nobody’s fault.

My niece had seated tickets and turned up 40 minutes before the start and queued for 5 minutes.

How many times did we queue for hours at Celtic Park for tickets to Celtic v Leeds at Hampden, Rangers v Celtic at Ibrox or at Hampden for Scotland v England back in the day? It was a right of passage and we never complained. I twice queued overnight for tickets for The Who and the Rolling Stones in Glasgow. No complaints. It was all part of the big experience.

Holidaymakers now turn up at airport check-in desks 4, 5 and 6 hours early. Those arriving at normal time arrive at the end of massive queues and are in danger if missing their flights. The tabloids then quote people in the queue blaming the airport.

In today’s digital, I-want-it-now world, people just can’t accept that it’s not all about them, and you sometimes have to queue for the more popular events. They’ll post comments online cursing everyone because there wasn’t someone there to meet them off the subway and walk them to their spot in front of the stage, and now they are having to queue in the rain. Of course the lazy journalists pick up their tweets and make them the source of news stories.

    Are we there yet mammy?

    You are absolutely correct.

This is the era of social media and complaining is oxygen to various media outlets. Justifiable or not.

I think the fact that the vast majority of the attendees were young teenage girls makes it worrisome, especially for their parents.

What I found intriguing is that Grayskull managed to attract the gig. The first for nearly 20 years.

I have long advocated that we should utilise our stadium to its maximum commercial potential. With the Emirates and the Celtic way our hub would seem a more attractive proposition.

The revenue and publicity cannot be disregarded. I trust our commercial people will be on it.

We should never stop unleashing our potential.

HH. All part of the dynamic journey.

I’m seeing lots of criticism on social media about the facilities at Ibrox yesterday – especially the catering and toilets. I suspect all the wee Huns that were there must have thought the line of portaloos were a free bar! 😉

  15. Evening all.

    Hopefully you are all well.

Delighted with the signing of CCV (The Fridge), anyone remember the William Perry, the NFL star ‘The Refigerator’ ?

Now that we have no Celtic football to watch, I turn to my second favourite sport, pugilism, (boxing) for the lavvie drinkers.

This was captured after Mrs BB and I ‘discussed’ , who was doing the dishes, I didn’t win.

Curiously. it was similar to BRRB and Leggy discussing that it was not their round :)
