Celtic 0-0 Hibernian

1111

Celtic surrendered another two points to fall further behind in the championship race, drawing 0-0 at home against Hibernian.  It was a unorganised looking performance from the home team who gave Graham Stack little to do in the Hibernian goal.

Gary Hooper squandered Celtic’s only gilt-edged chance of the game when, after playing a one-two with Anthony Stokes, he struck the outside of the post with Ki available for the square pass.  Anthony Stokes had earlier tested Stack, who failed to hold the ball but did enough to clear.

When the same teams met on Wednesday James Forrest transformed the game when he drifted inside but he spent most of today’s game adrift on the right wing.  On two occasions he cut inside with purpose, once testing Stack with a blistering shot from 22 yards and later when a 25 yard pile-drive struck the crossbar, but Hibs were content to limit Celtic to such speculative efforts.

Neil Lennon was justified in his criticism of his front pairing of Stokes and Hooper today but Celtic were equally clueless in midfield.  There appeared to be no cohesion and there was certainly not a productive match plan.

Motherwell’s away win in Inverness gives the Lanarkshire side a three point lead, having played a game more, going into next week’s crucial game against Celtic at Fir Park.  Manager-less St Johnstone dropped three points at home this afternoon, leaving them four points behind Celtic in the fight for the last Europa League place.

This is where we are people, scrapping between Motherwell and St Johnstone. Get used to it.

  1. When NL was appointed,I was,to say the least, sceptical, having experienced the nighmare of John Barnes tenure,we were entitled to be wary, sadly, the notion of a rookie coach being succesful at Celtic Park,is being cruelly exposed for the failure it undoubtedly is.As a player, there was plenty to admire regarding NL,as a man, even more,as a coach,he is just not up to the task, any number of players could have been subbed today but,for NL to sit and watch while Hooper did the sum total of nothing for 82 mins, tells me all I need to know,as much as it pains me to say so,and believe me,it does,it’s time to cut NL loose.

You’re right unfortunately, ordinary SPL sides do beat other ordinary SPL sides away from home . Which means that we are just as liable to lose at home as we are to win away from home. The only team who are not in this category are them. We have sunk to the level of Spl journeymen who all take points off each other.

Never mind Bhoys – Auld Heid will be on soon to tell us all about the balance sheet…that’ll make us all feel better, eh?

This isn’t about how big a supporter anyone is. Whats relevant is peoples priorities and their ideas on how to improve the club.

Auldheid is part of a group who place high importance on many of the same priorities as the board.

Nothing wrong with that, everyone is entitled to a view.

Whats clear however is that the boards priorities are not delivering football success. That should mean an adjustment in the boards priorities

  4. BIoke 109,

I very much understand what you are saying.

However, Celtic take us on dizzy ups & downs.

    T’was always thus.

Just strap on your seat belt & enjoy being part of the incredible adventure.

  8. I said this months ago and unfortunately it has never been addressed – without izzy and commons we seriously lack creativity.

Almost ALL our goals from jan to the end of last season came down our left.

Wee James forest is the only one who has a creative bone in his body and he is too young to be relied on.

  11. The Van Beuren Bhoy on

I posted earlier that it was no great surprise that the incomprehensible decisions by the Board (in appointing Neil) and Neil (in appointing his backroom staff) are responsible for where we find ourselves today…so what happens next ?

I know as little as the next supporter about what is and what isn’t possible but something needs to be done NOW if we have any chance of getting back into this championship…is the following possible:

    1. Offer MON, JR and SW a short term contract to the end of the season. I would assume that if it was financially attractive (over to you DD) then they would come. They are also not having to make a long term commitment.

    2. Agree with MON and his staff that by the end of March they would decide whether they would like a longer tem contract ?

    3. Immediately start a search for an experienced manager who would shadow MON’s staff for the last two month’s of the season should MON’s staff not wish the job long term.

    4. Offer Neil a post within MON’s staff (if he was interested).

After 25 years as a season ticket holder, I didn’t renew after the Tony Mowbray season. The appointment of Neil and the sale of Aiden were major reasons for me not renewing. If MON and his staff came back to the end of the season, I would buy a season ticket the next day (and I think a few thousand others would as well).

Would this be a possibility ?

  12. The Summer is too far ahead to think of changing anything. The coaching staff needs to go. They are woeful. If Lennie wasn’t doing an old pals act we would be better off. Things should be changed now. I’ve watched this train-wreck as the train was a mile away, when Commons wasn’t played and Kayal was looking for more money. Now Brown seems to be working his ticket, using his agent as a fall guy. It wouldn’t be so bad if Rangers were a good side, but they’re just very ordinary. I also think that almost every other manager in the SPL would set a side out better than it’s being done at the moment.

I was at the game today,a long-arm-of-the-law’s length away from the GREEN BRIGADE.

They were effing brilliant, and the Paddy McCourt’s Fenian Army routine is genuinely blood-coursing and laugh-out-loud as well.

    Congratulations,fellas,saved the day a tad….

I thought we persevered today, and while few players will be pleased with their performance, few could be faulted for effort.

I thought Kayal,Hooper and Ki were poor, and they need to look at themselves because that has been their level all season.

None of them will get their coveted move playing like that.

  22. Parkheadcumsalford- Yes that would be a concern but there are some terrific some players among them, what is my worry is how they react to the, er, “encouragement” some of our support will dish out as soon as they misplace a couple of passes.

Hey! I come from , ‘peeple’, too you know, however, unlike you, i consider myself so lucky to be part of the ‘Celtic family’, where i come from, everybody in the ‘community’ does their ‘bit’. It’s a bit like being a Celtic supporter!, if it’s a dirty job, then you do it gladly, simply because in the whole of Scotland, outwith Celtic Supporters, no one will ever ever, do us a favour’. Why would they, i have often read on these pages,no one does us any favours, no sh.t! I am a celtic supporter, ist, last, and everything in between!, i ask no favours, from any man, organisation,or otherwise, i am my own man, any thing i have apart from my intellect, i earned, my intellect comes from my ‘peeple’!, who fought the ‘good and just fight’, so we drew a game we should have won, hardly life threatening, i had to listen to BBC Scotland today, and they were ‘hard to take’ however, the ‘bleeting’, from our home fans is a slight on our great club! if you feel that strongly about recent events, then, i suggest, that you may be happier somewhere else! Don’t slam the door on your way out!!!

We are 9pts behind when we beat dunfy we have the huns to play 3 times we are going thru our bad patch the huns will have to go thru theres we have injuries to many first choice picks the huns will lose many of there first team picks to injury starting today with that odious oaf naebalance and hell mend the cheating diving ratbag. To read this so called celtic blog and read the despair and utter tripe in many of the posts and especially from celtic men that I respected on here really bugs me FFS get a grip of your selfs and get behind the manager and the team and stop your whinging and moaning whenever we have a poor result the season has along way to go and there will be many twists and turns before it ends but IMO celtic will win the title why because i believe in this team i believe in the manager and i always believe we can overcome the evil cheats and tax dodgers from the south side until its mathematically impossible.

  29. I find it fascinating that there are so many coming on here claiming they were sceptical about our manager being appointed. There certainly weren’t too many making that view public at the time. There was certainly an overwhelming majority at the Open Meeting where Jeanette Findlay put it to the vote (very foolishly imo), clamouring for him to be appointed.

We have had our wish granted. After all that has happened, we are obliged to stick by our manager.
