Celtic 0-0 Hibernian

1111

Celtic surrendered another two points to fall further behind in the championship race, drawing 0-0 at home against Hibernian.  It was a unorganised looking performance from the home team who gave Graham Stack little to do in the Hibernian goal.

Gary Hooper squandered Celtic’s only gilt-edged chance of the game when, after playing a one-two with Anthony Stokes, he struck the outside of the post with Ki available for the square pass.  Anthony Stokes had earlier tested Stack, who failed to hold the ball but did enough to clear.

When the same teams met on Wednesday James Forrest transformed the game when he drifted inside but he spent most of today’s game adrift on the right wing.  On two occasions he cut inside with purpose, once testing Stack with a blistering shot from 22 yards and later when a 25 yard pile-drive struck the crossbar, but Hibs were content to limit Celtic to such speculative efforts.

Neil Lennon was justified in his criticism of his front pairing of Stokes and Hooper today but Celtic were equally clueless in midfield.  There appeared to be no cohesion and there was certainly not a productive match plan.

Motherwell’s away win in Inverness gives the Lanarkshire side a three point lead, having played a game more, going into next week’s crucial game against Celtic at Fir Park.  Manager-less St Johnstone dropped three points at home this afternoon, leaving them four points behind Celtic in the fight for the last Europa League place.

This is where we are people, scrapping between Motherwell and St Johnstone. Get used to it.

older players (25 – 30) of a higher level tend to show better constancy and can bring the good young player’s with then. we have enough good young player’s we now need a few good established performers to allow the young ones to fulfil their potential

    Vinibhoy.

Maybe not great team but a team that is capable of winning the spl and a few games in Europe. This season has got to be like our recent form. Crap first half and good second half. The management are getting paid to sort this out.

  3. Who coaches the players? Who plans the strategy? Who picks the team? Who motivates the players? Where does the buck stop when the club are 12 points off 1st place in October?

The defintion of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome – Neil Lennon was a great player but the evidence is not good on his managerial ability. If there was a Manager’s league in Scotland where would you honestly position Neil? How many managers would give their right arm for the resources that he has? I dont think Neil will walk I think he’s too proud? Will things get any worse before they get better?

  4. The reason why Lenny isn’t a good manager is due to his management team. Not one of them has any experience to guide him. Its like me getting the Celtic job and asking my mates Bob and Frank if they want to be my assistants. Either Neil ditches his mates and gets proper experienced assistants or he loses the job

we have a dreadful team that’s being run terribly

We just need to adjust the balance.

  6. Some are now calling for the young players to be given a chance. As a veteran of the Seven Lean Years and the Kelly Kids, I can assure you that it simply will not work unless they are supplemented by at least, at least three experienced players of a higher calibre than that currently available at Celtic Park. If you don’t believe me, go ask someone like Billy McNeill. Bobby Lennox, John Clark or Steve Chalmers who all suffered the agonies and frustrations of boys being sent a man’s message.

But we have custodians ( and that’s all they are ) who are busy telling us about the demise of Scottish Football, not just Celtic with our renowned world wide fan base?

Celtic Park was nearly empty by full time, and a early, middle, or late goal was never really going to happen, and the fans knew it. It’s anecdotal but NL has become less and less animated since the start of the season and he cuts a dejected pose in the dug out, far too often now, and it’s difficult to see how he, and Celtic will recoup the lost points, as the side isn’t going so much side ways, but backwards.

But Celtic’s problems go much further than a rookie manager, who doesn’t know his best side, for the simple reason he doesn’t have a best side, though he should be much further down the road than still trying his square pegs in round holes routine, that contributed to todays stalemate.

The board are firmly on a damage limitation route, and sadly if I take a season ticket year out, so might too many others.

I don’t blame Celtic Supporters who do, because lots of them would come back at the drop of a hat.

  11. Stuck for words, Im offshore so didnt see any of game, relying on updates from FANS at the game, decided to look in for post match comments, my take is Lennys lost the dressing room we all know who are going through the motions, Kayal at Kilmarnock, Hooper this season no hunger,Ki does he know where he should be, the whole set up is just not right, Commons should be first pick, so he falls out with Lenny, its now a bad apple situation and its just festering away, Grow a pair and drop the same under performers, get the KIDS in against Motherwell, remember the last time there, every 50-50 balls dont think we won one. SORT IT

Lenny is not allowed to be animated in the dug out. He has been warned of the consequences by the police, by his employers and has been the victim of media demonization. You can’t use this as a measure of anything.

Paul is obviously as exasperated as the next Celtic supporter at his impotence to change events.

That is what get used to it means.

Unless you have a sparkling plan to change our direction I suggest you get used to it.

We suffer by comparison. I reckon that until such times as our comparator is forced to release the very players tnat give them advantage, we always will.

However what is abundantly clear is that a serious review of how we conduct our business in the environment Celtic operate in is required and the focus has to be placed on winning and THEN development, not winning via development.

In that respect we are clearly screwing up, injuries possibly have had an unforeseen impact but the current position indicates a change of direction is required.

You know what? I said I wasn’t going to post again tonight but reading that utter garbage has forced me back here.

We are THIRD tonight, NOT second. Third.

This has sod all to do with financial doping at Rangers. Our current plight wasn’t caused by them. It was caused inside our own club. It’s as a result of decisions taken INSIDE THE WALLS.

Also, this Rangers team isn’t particularly brilliant. They’ve been put under NO pressure by us, and neither has their manager, or you’d have seen them fold like a card house.

You are a good guy, but you and I differ in opinion because you are engaged in a constant search for the answers outside our house. It’s the fault of the SFA. It’s the fault of the refs. It’s the fault of the Scottish government. Now it’s the fault of Rangers.

Rangers did not get us into this state. Celtic is here because of the people who’s strategy you support.

Not for the first time recently your line of argument is an insult to the collect intelligence of this blog.

It was Kilmarnock who took a three goal lead against us, not Rangers, and the last I checked they weren’t spending millions of other people’s money. It was Hibs who held us today, St Johnstone who beat us at home … want me to continue? Do I need to?

i have never ever known a true celtic supporter to concede anything to the huns even if they were 15 points clear with 5 games to play your post tells me that you are delusional about calling your self a celtic supporter

  26. Celtic Champs Elect

You are a vile, vile man. Your treatment of good Celtic supporters on here disgusts me. I won’t insult you by calling you a hun – but you certainly post like one.

p.s. try some grammar and punctuation now and again – makes your disgusting rants at least comprehensible.

  27. I sit hear tonight in the very unusual position of posting not having been at the game.

By all accounts we were truly awful. I’ve not received a single text that contradicts that. The issue is where do we go from here.

It’s all about opinions and you’ll find that some will use the emotive argument while others will roll out statistics and facts. The facts say that we’re third in the league behind Motherwell and only just ahead of St Johnstone. The facts tell us that we’re a country mile behind a poor huns team. The facts would indicate that it will take a comeback of Lazarus proportions to win this title.

Is that what Celtic is all about, facts?

When Brother Walfrid set up food kitchens for the poor and the hungry did he think about statistics?

You see, when John Wilson hurdled the boards at Tynecastle or when bigots sent Neil Lennon bombs and bullets or when racists posted on the internet about the famine and potatoes. They weren’t only targeting our manager, they were targeting us. Lennon became their focus because they identified in him what they see in you and me.

He may not be up to the job and he may not have the talents to turn this around. Despite this, Lenny deserves our support, even if only for the rest of the season. Give him money in January and see what he can do with it.

And let yourself imagine, just for a moment that come May, Neil Lennon is standing on the steps of parkhead with the championship trophy above his head. And then imagine Craig Whyte’s coupon.

It should be memorised by every person who, in the next few weeks and months, will have to stand a barrage of criticism for daring to suggest the SFA follows its own rules in dealing with Der Hun … and then it should be rammed down their throats, word for word.

You are a man amongst men mate.

  29. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

PL’s the man if you want to eke out a profit in an unpromising ‘market’. He’s just a duffer if you want to beat the huns at football.

  30. The Honest Mistake (Sickened) on

James Forrest. You don’t entertain that it’s a mixture of a number of different factors that got us here? Crazy to discount the effect of a cheating opposition, cheating referees and governing body and blame it all on a failed strategy of the club.

  31. You wouldn’t now be sure of a Celtic victory against any SPL side. Mediocre managers of mediocre SPL teams all know how to play against Celtic. At best we will be involved in a third place dogfight in the final weeks of this season.
