Celtic, 1 away defeat in 15 years domestic cup football

202

Ask any manager who he wants in the next round of the cup and he will invariably say as long as it is a home tie he doesn’t care.  You, however, live in exceptional times to be a Celtic supporter.  Celtic have not lost an away tie in Scottish Cup or League Cup competitions in 12 years, when a week after putting seven goals past St Mirren, we travelled to Paisley and were eliminated from the Scottish Cup.  Incredibly, we have not lost an away game in the League Cup since 2004.

Martin O’Neill’s Celtic famously lost at Inverness in the Scottish Cup just days after progressing to the Uefa Cup semi-final with a win at Liverpool.  Martin’s teams also lost away League Cup ties in each of the following two seasons.  Gordon Strachan lost his first Scottish Cup tie as Celtic manager in an also-famous game at Clyde, which saw Roy Keane and Du Wei caught in the headlights.

Since that game in Cumbernauld 15 years ago, the solitary loss at St Mirren is our only defeat away from home in Scottish or League Cups.  As for Ibrox on Sunday, we are ready, bring it on.

Galloway is now just an opportunist desperate to get his ego back in the limelight tbh. To think i once thought he was a champion of the Working man.

  5. FOURSTONECOPPI on 14TH APRIL 2021 7:45 AM

That may well be the safety net following incompetence trying to fill important positions

DD and his magic hat could still surprise

Chameleon carpetbagger is ole George, I wonder what his friends in the Arab Muslim world make of his new friends from the remnants of UKIP and alt-right weirdos, but then George was never one to look backwards there was always new political friends and money

  7. Regarding the speculation surrounding Leigh Griffiths – I would be happy to see him go. As far as I’m concerned he has done virtually nothing since signing his last £1m/year contract “It’s OK for you not to be here next season Leigh, OK”

Frankly, seeing the back of all our ‘so-called’ strikers, i e. Griffiths, Klimala & Ajeti would please me.

Eduard is a young lad and has scored 16 league goals this season, however his body language and general demeanour on the field of play this season leaves much to be desired. Like a few others in the squad, he just doesn’t want to be here. We all find it strange that someone would not want to play for Celtic, however when moving means at least the doubling of wages and a large (c£1m) signing-on fee, it’s not really that strange.

Perhaps the Covid situation has affected him and other foreign players markedly – being unable to slip-off home to see their families between games may be taking its toll.

With no one coming through the development route, it looks like we will need to by at least two first-choice strikers and perhaps a “project’ to develop.

This is the most challenging close season for many a year and we face it with a new CEO, new manager and a squad in need of major surgery….it won’t be easy.

‘Thatcher was struggling in 1979 to get enough votes for a GE, the SNP gave Thatcher those votes, just like the SNP gave Boris Johnson the votes for a GE in 2019, to crush Jeremy Corbyn.’

    ####

In fairness to the modern day SNP, while they were happy to support the Tories in 1979 and 2019 in order to stop Labour, and thus further their sacred cause of Scottish independence, they perhaps aren’t quite as bad as their hero and former leader, Arthur Donaldson, who was happy to do a deal with Hitler in pursuit of the same goal.

  10. I don’t think Kennedy will be manager next season but I can see a dangerous scenario where we’re still scrambling around and Kennedy leads us into the CL qualifiers – especially if we wait until June for Eddie Howe.

  11. Is Jeremy Corbyn still a Labour party member ?

Sir Keir Starmer and an overwhelming number of the parliamentary Labour MPS want Corbyn out of the party

800 page internal labour party document February 2021of how Corbyn was destroyed by within the labour party itself, Labour party grandees, senior MPs colluded with the Murdoch press and other Conservative right-wing publications to stop Corbyn

A recently leaked report on the shenanigans of officials at Labour HQ reveals a cesspit of bullying and bureaucracy, designed explicitly to undermine the Corbyn movement. Labour activists must organise and fight to sweep out the saboteurs.

Some very large political squirrels bounding about the pages of CQN

It was Carlisle apparently. Not that it matters particularly. He’s pissed as a fart after a heavy session, an occupational hazard for an experienced toper, which I believe he is.. Might be a sign of deeper problems, or might be just a post lockdown jolly boys outing.

I wish him well and hope he is able to sort himself out, if that is what is needed.

The extent and degree of vitriol that he was subjected to by Celtic fans was unforgiveable.

  17. FOURSTONECOPPI – I’ve been running a bike business for about 20 years here in Spain and bike fitting is like opening Pandora’s Box 😂 There is a whole industry built around it. There are also quite a few proprietary systems like Retul that cashed in on the Sky boom when all the City boys switched from golf to cycling and threw money at their new hobby. People will spend hundreds of pounds to get everything dialled in perfectly . . .

Vast majority of us only need a good bike fitter to listen to us, see us on the bike and tweak 2-3 things. Most common issues:

    1. Bike size is actually not right to begin with. Bike shops favourite as they get to sell you a new bike 😂

    2. Saddle height based on your own height/inner leg length and flexibility. Biggest danger is it is too high which leads to hip/back pain. A few mms either way can help a lot.

    3. Saddle width, length, shape and saddle tilt. Width is based on your seat bone width. Most saddles come in different widths (135 mm, 143mm, 155 mms etc). Saddle shape and length comes down to preference as does a slight tilt. Most people start dead level and then may adjust. Most saddle models now come up with the option of a cutout/hole to relieve pressure on your sensitive bits. Definitely worth getting. Speak to a bike shop you trust if you have been using the same saddle for a long time. Ask if you can try 1-2 out for a few days. Many shops stock test saddles.

    4. Reach. Basically the distance from the saddle to the handlebars. Get this wrong and you get a whole host of problems including numb fingers, tight shoulders, sore back etc. A small tweak of 1-2 cms can make a big difference. Sometimes a shorter/longer stem is recommended or the handlebars raised/dropped.

    5. Handlebar width. We do not all have standard shoulder widths but bikes come with a standard set up and people rarely think to change them.

    6. Shoes and cleat position. If you use clip in pedals then this is worth spending time on. Cleats can be moved back/forward/inwards/outwards. A lot of cyclists knee problems originate from cleat set up. Likewise a lot of people with high foot arches need arch support in their shoes. The insoles that come with even the best cycling shoes provide next to no arch support.

    Good luck amigo.

  18. Jeremy Corbyn will not sit as a Labour Party MP in the Commons, Sir Keir Starmer says.

The former leader was reinstated as a member of the party on Tuesday, having been suspended over his response to a human rights watchdog report on anti-Semitism in Labour ranks.

But his successor said his remarks had “undermined… our work in restoring trust” with the Jewish community.

Jeremy Corbyn is a walking miracle, how the man has survived the number of knives in his back from Labour party colleagues ? hard to keep up with his in-out shenanigans at Labour party headquarters, with friends like these indeed

  19. LIONROARS67 on 14TH APRIL 2021 9:23 AM

And is Alex Salmond still a member of the SNP?

  20. There was plenty of snide vitriol directed at Neil Lennon on these very pages. Shameful.

All those who put pressure on Celtic to appoint him manager in the first place have to take some responsibility too.

Not calling you a liar, but I find that hard to believe.

  22. Peter Lawell and Celtic owe Neil Lennon a duty of care that is clearly self-evident

I hope the club has opened up communication today (he is still being paid by the club) to help him in any way Neil Lennon requires, beyond that I’m am not interested to hear any other news or indulge in gossip, it goes without saying I wish him well and hope he finds some peace and happiness

Gotta love JC. Even turned up at a Celtic game. The last chance the UK had for a gov led by a human being. Think Johnson is bad (and he is, very bad indeed)? The ones after will be even worse.

  24. Real Celtic fans would criticise a manager for his and his teams peformance but real Celtic fans would never abuse a manager.theres a big difference between the 2

  25. john kennedy ole ole

Margaret Thatcher did not need or wait for any EC Treaty before waging war on Trade Unions or on workers rights generally. By 1980 she already had anti Trade Union legislation on the Statute Books, followed by a series of Acts over the next five or six years. If anything it was the EU who restored some but not all of those rights in the latter 1990s. Dont let the facts get in the way. I know George wont.

Cheers …..i’m good with all of that and generally use that guidance but recently neck pain and right knee. Maybe i’ll investigate reach/stem height and cleats. I’ve been on here for about 100 yrs lol and was aware you had a bike shop in Denia, you lucky lucky lucky Tim, always intended to pop in and say hello but of course i never did. The lure of a cheap flight to Murcia did it. For a couple of years me and a mate used to rent carbon bikes from a guy in Murcia, a geordie i think, who married an Edinburgh lass really good guy. Then rent a cheap hotel in Santiago de la Ribera and cycle all over the place, looking and feeling like a couple of pros ha ha. Anyway thanks for that, and maybe when all of this is over i’ll get back to Spain and drop by. For now its the good ol’ Scottish weather and the campsies. HH

In his first spell as manager he had his own staff. Guys who knew his strengths and weaknesses and who he knew he could trust. The second time round he was on his own. A cheaper, more tractable arrangement for Lawwell and his boss, part of their strategy of managed decline.

And here we all are today.

I liked Jeremy Corbyn if I lived in England I would have voted for him

Sadly the English electorate is Conservative in nature and continually votes for Conservative Govts in their tens of millions, Jeremy had an impossible task, being undermined by your own party to such a degree was an obstacle too far to overcome.

  29. My first reaction to the Lennon video was one of relief that he’s gone. Our standards went through the floor in the last few months of his second stint.

I don’t know if Neil has problems or was simply letting off steam. It’s certainly not a good look for a perspective employer.

  30. YORKBHOY – Nice one. You Tube is a brilliant source of free info.

After months of niggling and not so niggling pains, I was given a battery of xrays, bloodtests and MRI scans just before Covid. I was diagnosed with shoulder tendonitis, hip bursitis, bilateral sacroilitis and a variety of lower back degenerative issues. Couldn’t get to see a specialist due to Covid so researched physio/rehab stuff on You Tube. Absolute goldmine (plenty of rubbish too).

One of my favourite channels is by a couple of geeky Ameican physios called Bob and Brad. Get beyond their quirky intro, and they give a ton of no-nonsense advice and exercises to do to help with most common issues.

If any of you need some suggestions on exercises to help with back/shoulder/knee/neck type problems, look them up. Helped me to get a good degree of mobility back.

  31. Interested to know who is making the decision on Klimala if The Ranger

is to be believed, We are going to be pretty short of players soon enough

without getting rid of a young player on a decent contract. Goodness knows

how a full appraisal of this lad can be done. He has been given no chance to

display his talent. Still the precident is well set, Bayo, Rasmussen et all.
