Celtic, big punchers with a glass chin

271

If you were an opposition manager planning to face Celtic, what would you do?  At Ibrox we will meet a team that attacks us, but on all other occasions, we will face a packed defence intent on shutting us out.  That’s not all.  Every opponent will play for free kicks in the final third and corners, when possible.

It is not difficult to gain possession – then a foul – in wide positions 30 yards from your opponent’s goal.  This would be the staging post I’d aim for when facing Celtic.  We are winning games but set-piece crosses into the box continue to be poorly defended.  We are the football equivalent of a boxer with a big punch and a glass chin.

If I was Dundee United manager Tam Courts, who face Celtic in the Scottish Cup a week today, I would play for penalties.  Failure from 12 yards has been a regular feature of Celtic performances for years.  It has not cost us a trophy since 2016, but until we improve this crucial part of the game we are asking for a sore one.

Practice, practice, practice.  You can be sure Dundee United will this week.

All seated, all ticket, no cash, pay with a card, are all in lockstep with the great reset loving, Reagan & Thatcher, dynasty.

Celtic rooled Europe fae a piss flowing midden of a stadium, 20,000+ crowds, most of them hardly had an ass to their troosers, all over the country they would travel, always finding a way to get to the ‘gemme’ to see the Cellic, they’re Cellic, working class skivvies, going to see the Cellic, with their last coins that they had in their pockets.

A great man called, Jock Stein, became the Cellic manager, and the heaven’s smiled down upon the east end of Glasgow, a midden, a dump, a desecrated land full of fairy tales, and mawkit faced, hungry weans.

Jock Stein created a legendary football team of, classy, fearless, uppity urchins, a team stuffed full of characters, and tenement tickets, who knew how to look after themselves, and more importantly, each other.

Now Celtic operate in a football world toxified by grubby money.

The originality of being a Cellic player, was lost when Thatcher killed the magic of the ‘gemme’ by poisoning it with a bankers matrix.

Money is the root of all evil, and now what we know as evil, corrupt, bigoted, treachery, is rolling about the bed with what Cellic has become.

We were told back in the day that Fergus McCann had dealt with CBCA scandal??

    Did he??

    Or was that another lie??

Or has this story been rehashed and used under the table to coerce Celtic into holding their wheesht as the same club lie was played out??

Or have a new set of scandals emerged from the CBCA scandal ridden era??

    The fairytale is dead.

The eejit, Michael Kelly, said after the McCann takeover in 1994,…..

“Today the Celtic support see a new way forward for the club, in the fullness of time they’ll reflect upon, March 4th 1994, as the day that Glasgow Celtic lost its soul.”

    Hmmmmm??

    Bitter??

    Or, prophetic??

I agree that all ST holders pass their tickets onto others regardless – but for most clubs, this is in violation of their ST terms and conditions regarding non-transferability.

The Brentford scheme has no such limitation on transferability – although I would suppose that they would hold the ST ticket holder responsible if seats get damaged etc.

Seems a pragmatic and sensible scheme all round – and was put in place after fan consultation.

    —————

Years ago, I wrote an article for Dissent magazine that included a brief discussion of a New York periodical published from 1837 to 1859—The Democratic Review (DR). You can read every issue on the internet, and I read a good number of them. The DR was an organ of the Jacksonian Democrats; its editors declared themselves defenders of “radical democracy.” They were friends of the Irish immigrants; they promoted labor rights; they wrote, though very tentatively, about the rights of women. The leading editor, John O’Sullivan, was briefly in the New York State Assembly, where he introduced legislation banning capital punishment (which was only narrowly defeated). But the politics of these radical democrats was shadowed by a gross contradiction: They did not support the abolition of slavery. Though they didn’t defend slavery, they also didn’t oppose it.

  13. I am glad to see Neil ‘back on the horse’ again, I hope he is happy. As Bournesouprecipe rightly outlines, his record at Celtic is exemplary. He is a legend, has had so much sh** to deal with, and no, he never did bring any of it on himself.

That he has had to travel so far to find employment genuinely surprises me. As a player, he wasn’t a Larsson, as a manager, he was no Stein….but he made significant contribution to the history of Celtic, and that will not be forgotten.

…to the Western islands, if you follow Kev’s links you’ll find the reference is to biological labratories in Ukraine that have been experimenting with bioweapons since 2014. The russian’s are investigating documents that are alledgedly orders from the Ukraine govt to destroy all evidence and vails containing any material, the documents list the types of materials found, such as anthrax and plague and many many more.

The investigation is ongoing and the documents are reportedly provided by disgruntled lab techs who were not altogether happy with the experimentation.

The following link is to an Indian website that cannot besimply labelled an obvious Russian propaganda outlet, they are taking the charges seriously.

    https://www.republicworld.com/world-news/russia-ukraine-crisis/russia-claims-it-found-evidence-of-ukraine-destroying-us-funded-bioweapons-programme-articleshow.html

What I do find amusing about this place is that after all the evidence of humaitarian crimes demonstrated by wikileaks and other outlets so many on here still accept the word of those who are currently totruring Julian Assange in a UK prison. Because he exposed them.

Echochambers are a dangerous place to live.

  15. Who to believe indeed ? we can all stumble from one echo chamber to another

India is neutral ? really ?

Moscow works with New Delhi in the “military and technical sphere like with no other country”, the Russian president told Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, calling India “a time-tested friend” as the leaders signed a new 10-year defence co-operation agreement.

The friendship would be challenged just eight weeks later when Russian troops stormed Ukraine, sending India rushing to rescue more than 15,000 nationals, mostly students studying in the country.

While western nations condemned Russia’s aggression, New Delhi’s loyalty to its longstanding partner held firm. India, as a temporary UN Security Council member, abstained from voting on a resolution to condemn Russia’s invasion last week, along with China and the United Arab Emirates.

Analysts say India believes there is little benefit in alienating Russia, on which it depends for crucial commodities such as energy and fertiliser, with neighbouring China as a much greater strategic threat. Russia’s support is seen as vital to managing India’s unresolved confrontation with China on its northern Himalayan border after deadly fighting in 2020.

“Here in Delhi, Russia has always been [seen as] a dangerous tactical distraction for the west,” said Constantino Xavier, a fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress think-tank in New Delhi. “From India’s perspective, the only actor that will come out stronger [from the war in Ukraine] is China.”

The horrific videos, images of innocent Ukrainians being murdered, their homes destroyed, hospitals, and schools destroyed are recorded in real-time, War is all too real, the victims are all too real, f*** the mad politicians, dictators whether they are West or East who visit these atrocities through war

  16. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Lionroars67,

Agree with your post however I unfortunately have absolutely zero faith in the integrity of western MSM, My default approach is that everything that comes from them is a lie everything without exception, worse my experience tells me that everything they accuse their antagonists of is actually their own guilt. If they tell me its raining I look out the window. On India’s nutrality I believe they demonstrate their neutrality by abstaining at least thats how abstaining used to be interpreted it shows no support for either side of the argument.

As you know (maybe) I do not rely on single souce media but I do tend to look at more alternatives due to my cynicism of western MSM. I favour independent anti-war websites a recent article I read on a website I have referred to on here many times http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/ supported my distrust. It refers to a cabinet meeting by the newly appointed Regan administration, his new CIA Director William Casey was recored saying “We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.”

I have zero reason to believe that stratgy failed, especially on the evidence of the number of illegal wars they have initiated since, how many soverign countries they have invaded without justification and last but not least, how many millions of innocent civilians they have murdered.

So while I do not fully support Putin, I do understand why he does not trust the US or its NATO. I also understand why he should support Lugansk and Donetsk from maurauding nazi batallions who are intent on cleansing ethnic Russians from the region. The silence from the west and people on here in 8 years of war against legitimate self decalered autonimous regions whose only sin was their refusal to accept the violent overthrow of their democratically elected government and military junta who took power refusing to accept the Europes attempts to form and agreement to hold emergency elections in 2014. Preferring to set up their own junta until they could remove all opposition prior to any elecion, the two biggest parties were outlawed after that. Russian, Hungarian and Polish languages were then banned, and tanks rolled into the autonimous regions where peacefull demonstrators were murdered. In Odessa they burned people alive then started bombing cities full of civilians.

The people of Ukraine accepted that treatment for their neighbours in silence, the Russians hope out of rear of the Nazi’s and that when they complete their operation the truth will come flooding out from people who were oppressed by American sponsored Nazi’s.

Meanwhile Palestine and Yemen are being destroyed and not a word from the western media, both of those atrocities are done in our name.

So while you can make assumptions that I am jumping from echochamber to echochamber I believe I am getting a clearer picture than most in the UK and the rest of the west.

  18. Tom McLaughlin on

A few nights ago the ITV Evening News was blatantly scaremongering as they reported on the Russian takeover of a Ukrainian nuclear power station, talking up the potential for a nuclear disaster.

All because a fire broke out in a training room on the perimiter of the complex. We were told it had the potential to cause a nuclear meltdown. Yes, we are expected to believe that the security and safety of a nuclear power station was so lax that a small fire could mean disaster. And the fire service had presumably ran away.

Then we were told that the plant was in danger because it needs expert care, operation and maintenance and “Russian soldiers can’t provide that.” So Russian soldiers accidentally came across a nuclear power station and thought – let’s take this? Aye right.

Are we to believe that the takeover of the nuclear power station wasn’t planned in advance, and that the Russians wouldn’t have thought of sending in people who know how to safely operate the thing?

Images of the Japanese nuclear meltdown filled the screen just in case we needed further convincing that even in our own homes we’re not safe from those pesky Russians.

The entire report was sheer anti-Russian propaganda, delivered in a ham-fisted and shambolic way.

It would have been hilarious had it not been so frightening to the average viewer.

  19. After seeing the difference carter vickers made to our defence and how he has performed all season he was bound to attract attention , he will head back south unfortunately . Jota I believe will do the same , talent like that won’t hang about a league like ours , I hope our scouts are presently searching for big no nonsense centre half’s a taller version of ccv would do fine . Jota will be hard to replace but they are out there as long as they aren’t wee timid wingers we have had plenty of them . HH

  20. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Tom..,

The RT version of that incident was that Ukrainian forces enetered the training complex and started a fire fight with the Russians who had secured the actual power station, when the Russian’s responded the Ukrainian’s retreated setting the complex on fire.

Something said on RT that you won’t hear on western MSM, “details have not been confiremed by RT”.

Here’s a trick, John Bolton was on RT last week telling everyone watching why it’s all the evil putin’s fault. And RT are just a Putin propaganda outlet eh?

  21. What we do know about this war ( And it is a war by any definition) is that innocent people are dying on our continent.

Refugees, now in the millions mainly women and children need our help. This is an educated and modern society which amplifies the shock.

I really don’t think we appreciate the enormity of what is happening on our door step. Our illusions have been shattered as we realise that this situation could happen anywhere.

Could it happen here. ? The answer must be yes.

The peoples of Donetsk and Luhansk will eventually have a referendum. They will vote to affiliate to Russia. They are intertwined with Russia, by blood, language and culture. It is a long disputed scenario, going back maybe longer than 1314.

Now imagine Scotland has a referendum. It is a close call with the separatists winning a small majority.

The border areas Dunfries & Galloway etc don’t want their way of life changed forever as a hard border is inevitably implemented. They ask for help from the RUK.

Orkney, Shetland and Aberdeen see the SNP Green government destroying the Oil and Gas industry. Austerity max is hitting hard. They ask the RUK for help.

If recent events have demonstrated anything, it is that this is a perfectly feasible scenario.

Sobering possibilities, that should enter our thought process.

  22. The fire in the Nuclear plant was caused by a missile.Probably not aimed,,but that’s what happens. It hit the training centre around half a mile from the Reactor.Close enough to be a major issue. Not anti Russian propaganda, just facts.

I see we have another Putin lover joined us.Not posted for a while but back with a pro Russian view.Expert on the Donbas’ conflict it seems.Peaceful Russians being murdered by Ukrainian Nazis. Jesus Not Russian propaganda, not at all.Experts from an armchair far removed from the death ,destruction, and carnage.
