Celtic-City partnership brings Roberts to Glasgow

497

Very pleased we have signed Patrick Roberts (18) on loan from Manchester City for 18 months. A few quick observations on this signing:

He’s another wide attacking player. I’ve lost count of the number of wide attacking players Ronny has signed but it’s far too many. Only Stuart Armstrong has come close to making regular appearances. This means we are still short of suitable options here, so need to recruit for the position, and that we have made a number of serious oversights.

The ideal signing is a loan with an option to buy. Next is a straight purchase, then a loan without an option to buy, but the market is changing.

I mentioned last month that as a consequences of the uber-rich hoarding players (Patrick is a case in point, £12m for a player who will be peripheral for years), mastering the loan market will be a key element to enable clubs to over perform.

Celtic appear to have struck up an understanding with Manchester City, one of the richest clubs/biggest hoarders in world football. There will be rich pickings here. Such was the demand for his signature, Patrick wouldn’t be near Celtic Park unless on a loan.

Jason Denayer’s time at Celtic worked very well for Celtic, the player and City, which is why we were able to secure Patrick for 18 months. More of this kind of thing, please, Celtic.

Welcome to Celtic, Patrick.

14′ penalty claims for Celtic waved away as Christie is barged off the ball in the Rangers box. Still all Celtic

  2. Celtic need a tough tacking midfield and a decent right back. Lustig has lost it. Roberts is 18. We lay champs league qualifiers in the shoulders of an 18 year old. Has he ever played a game at that level ?? Finally, RD should have switched to 3-5-1 after the red. Compress the game. No plan b.

Osman Sow is allegedly off to China for £1.5m from Hearts. Contract’s up in summer. That’s a bit mental.

Half-Time: Celtic 1-0 Rangers. All Celtic but just Nesbitt’s goal to separate the sides at the break.

  10. Unusual for us not to have any surprise last day, last minute targets. Roberts & CKR have been known about, usually the press don’t have a clue. Suppose there’s still a bit of time for a late flurry?

I fully agree with the sfa issues, They hate us and always have but a more astute manager would still got something out of the game.

*a more astute manager watched us get cheated in 2 SC Finals within 3 years that would have given us our 3rd and 4th treble. As good as you are how can you legislate against the likes of davidson and gordon.

Hope deadline day lifts the spirits after yesterday.

I find it hard to believe that any fan of Celtic can think that we would get a even handed official from the very organisation that has be working with our no dead rival. Week in week out there are more links that the sfa and sevco are linked and we still expected a fair ref in the sfa’s lair.

Crazy. Celtic and the board not only to blame for our malaise.

*our refs are very poor but still get gigs in Europe due to the double glazing salesman who promotes them even though they are an embarrassment wherever they go, then so was he.

He has no time for us and in an effort to appease him his follow followers carry out his orders much to our detriment,

Fix him and the Lanarkshire ref association and the problems in the game will frighten themselves.

As for the columnist that said “eyes in the back of yer heid” spoke well at Carfin. Which side of his mouth was he talking out of?

Brothmooth has said that nothing will be done unless the fans walk. That’s they’re support who like a good walk, not ours who they couldnae care less about. Believe me; they would love it if we did a Belfast Celtic.

Interesting defences of our Manager and I have to say that loyalty is a very important Timmy Trait (well with a lower case l at least:)

Yet for me it’s not about loyalty, certainly the jury’s out on several aspects of Ronny’s stewardship and in some areas the call to give him not time is well made.

Here is the crucial factor for me…

Ronny is NOT a match day Manager, if things go wrong in a game Ronny hasn’t got the tactical awareness and footballing nous to sort it.

*which is why I believe he will still be here at Parkheid next season but NOT in the dugout.

  17. Can anyone enlighten me, do the development team u19’s etc play the same way as the first team, with the fullbacks overlapping, and no defensive mids?

I asked Jimbob71 about the charity q&a that was held up in Carfin the other night, but he’s not got back to me, so maybe he missed my post.

Could you shed any light on why Wullie Collum, who was on the panel, and who is described as being very honest and truthful by Jimbob, awarded a penalty for Rangers (1872-2012), back in October 2010, in an incident involving Big Dan and Broadfoot, when he clearly had his back to the action, and so did not see what had happened.

Assuming anyone asked him, of course.

And not forgetting that teachers may indeed have eyes in the back of their heads.

  20. Bob Loblaw,

That is the most sense I have read on here for a while. Great post. Criticising the performance of the team and the manager is not necessarily a call for replacing the Board or the CEO. Like some I have lost faith in the management team but I applaud the Board for appointing a coach with the apparent attributes of Ronnie. Innovation does not always work, and, IMHO, that is the case here.

Across the diverse opinions on here we all want the same thing……success for Celtic. If you see something that you believe is working against that, this is the appropriate place to state it, hopefully, in a respectfull way.

Story goes that another official yelled ‘penalty’ and he gave it.

When he saw the replays he wasn’t too pleased, but damage done.

I despise the wee p…k but he got done over that time. Good enough for him.
