Celtic coaches and the March Grand Tour

453

The March international break is one of the most important of the club season.  It is when managers and coaches get to take a proper look at the players targeted for the summer transfer window.  The Celtic management team will have looked at dozens of players on video since the January window closed, but, this break from domestic football, gives them the chance to do the Grand Tour, their last opportunity before the end of the season.

Having despatched his nearest two rivals away from home, with 10 men, in recent weeks, Brendan Rodgers took enormous pressure off the remainder of the season, which now largely consists of preparing for next month’s Scottish Cup semi-final.  Energies will have made a significant switch towards preparing for July’s Champions League qualifiers.

Getting these decisions right can be the difference between success and failure; Brendan will have used his ‘time off’ wisely.

    Art of war,,

Telfer walked in at 32? And was the fittest there. Mr reliable 7 outta 10 every game.

Walked into old Arry and said I’ve put in a great shift for a modest fee, free transfer please.

Of course old Arry knew the game and took a nominal fee.

I think right back has had more hits than miss. Unlike left back.

But that’s kinda the mistique of the left back,,you’re more likely to bomb than flourish.

Look at the player in front of the LB,,

    Thommo

    Naka

    Maloney

    Aiden

    Sinky

They don’t work for the team. The left back was left exposed Soo many times but rarely do I remember a stretch were they were successfully targeted for a prolonged period. Ie,,goals don’t really come from the left.

I think a goal has been more likely to come from the right hand side of the pitch.

Lustig had shored it up a bit after Efe but he’s gone from what I see of him.

If Ralston is the successor that’s a real good sign as he will hopefully know Kts game a fair bit and can adjust accordingly. Whether this happened in the reserves when they played together maybe another poster could say.

Plus I’d much rather have one of our own than a foreigner. No offense foreigners.

As for Didi,,what a player,,,”skin em Didi” was heard around me several times per game.

I rarely get home never mind to Glasgow but Didi scored twice in my last game I took in against the jam tarts in a two all draw. I took two Italians that day. Impressed was an understatement.

    Hope you’re well

But did I correct last night that 5 Middle aged men (who I think it said knew each other) who had a fall out with Russia, and have all been found dead, suspected of suicide??? What are the statistical chances of that happening, 5 guys that know each other and move in the same circles and commit suicide.

I do not want to upset anyone with this post by talking about a very sensitive subject, I just find that incredible, if I heard it correctly.

Jim Brogan was a great left back HH

    ———————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Jim Brogan was one of the last proper defenders in that he he could tackle a brick wall and feared no-one. He could also man mark for fun and I remember him following Jocky Scott all over Hampden Park in a Scottish cup semi-final when Jock Stein flagged him up as Dundee’s biggest threat. Jocky Scott was at the height of his powers at the time and didn’t get a sniff of the ball for the whole match.

Too many of today’s defenders couldn’t tackle their way out of a wet paper bag and get by because they they “are good going forward” This wasn’t part of Jim Brogan’s natural game though few who were around at the time will ever forget his last minute winner against the huns at CP when they were still celebrating what they thought was match saving equalizer. Oh joy :-)

It may have been Neil Watt, both he and Davie Moyes stayed in Bearsden and were pals.

Neil ended up playing in the lower leagues for years plus I think he managed Forfar for a season or two.

I used to work part time in an off sales in Bearsden , Neil knew the owner’s husband . Neil would occasionally come in , talk football with the owner’s husband . Davie Moyes name was mentioned often.

Jim Brogan would have been an excellent replacement for The Brush, but that went to George Connelly.

He would have been an excellent replacement for Bertie,as a skilled and ruthless power in midfield, but that went to David Hay.

I genuinely didn’t think he was a particularly good left back, but I was judging him by what I had seen before, the peerless Tommy Gemmell. Judging him in hindsight by what I had to endure in the years to follow,my opinions have mellowed somewhat!

  13. Why don’t ‘journalists’ ask that nice Alex Salmond what’s going on in Russia?

He will be able to clear things up.

I’m sure that a nice man like him, with his steadfast grounding in the banking sector and being a pillar of our society and a supporter of those lovely people at Hearts, would not be working for RT if the Russians had done anything dodgy.

He’s far too principled for that. Isn’t he?

  14. Russia is the current object of Establishment propaganda but this, I believe, applies to all other targets over the years:

” The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum. ”

  15. The entire Russian scandal is intriguing. Is it a false flag? Possibly. However, it is very opportune and gives the flailing May her ‘Falklands’ without ever having to fire a bullet.

That said, the rate of rich Russian deaths in London is worthy of investigation and if there are ties to the Kremlin then the need for ‘something to be done’ is understandable. But again, there is so much else at play here between money laundering and property deals in the billions that you have to look at those with the most to gain. When 71 deaths and the displacement of 100s of working class folk from high rise tcouncil flat in the richest borough in Europe goes stone quiet in the media, then you realise there’s more at play than meets the eye.

  16. Vale Bhoy

These attacks on Russia are a smokescreen to coverup what the real bad guys (US-UK etc.) are doing. Whats Russia actually done thats SO bad?

They’ve helped Syria defeat our Isis & Co- good thing .

Russia were forced to take back Crimea because the US installed a facist anti-russian governmen in Ukraine. And the Crimeans very happy to be part of Russia again .

Put that against what we and the US have done.

We invaded Iraq on false pretences. Ruined the country and caused about 2 million death.

We invaded Afghanistan leaving another broken country in our wake .

Next we bombed the hell out of Lybia, the richest country in Africa. Even though its leader had been helping in the war on terror. This country is now run by gangs of slave traders.

Then we arm Isis and co in Syria and destroy and kill all over again.

All the time we are stealing their oil and heroin and gold.

Basically we are a bunch of psychopathic criminals. We need to look in the mirror and do some soul-searching .

The Russians are angels compared to us. And the Salisbury thing is very unlikely to be Russian government.

I’m certainly no fan of the current government, and frankly suspicious of every government statement since Thatcher started massaging the unemployment figures.

But Putin is an unprincipled thug,hell-bent on re-establishing Russian/Soviet era control over what he sees as his lost territories. And he will use everything he can to do so.

Cyber attacks, chemical attacks, war, illegal land grabs,he doesn’t care. What can anyone do if he simply and brazenly denies everything?

Meantime, the billions that so many oligarchs stole under Yeltsin are slowly being grabbed back. Do they return the assets to the Russian people,or even the Russian Treasury?

    Get real.

Jim Brogan was a great left back HH

My lasting memory of Jim Brogan was away back I was down at the front of the Jungle next to the pitch ( Can’t remember who we were playing ), It was one of those really wet days and the pitch was very slippy, the ball was heading along the touchline with Jim & determined to get to it first, he made one of those real old fashioned sliding tackles ,seemed to go on for ever, at the same time an opposition player was belting across to get there before Jim, as Jim reached the other guy swung at the ball but Jim was going so fast he slid past at the same time and the guy’s boot caught Jim right on the jaw with a sickening crack, I felt for sure his jaw would have been broken and he would have been carried of, But no the Bold Jim got up right away, shook his head like a new born lamb and belted back to his defence position as though nothing had happened, What A Guy. It was no fault of the other guy.

  25. Jim Brogan was a sound left back and took no shit from anyone. Often booked. Not a great passer of the ball. Had a wonderful season, player of the year !973, and then suffered a bad injury. Came back but as never quite the same.

I was at that game when he scored a last minute winner v the huns. Brilliant memories of Jim Brogan.

  26. We know about the devious underhand actions of the Brit government in Ireland .

Thats is the way our public school educate elites work when in power.

Anyone should be able to see the Eton Bullington boy Boris is lying through his teeth.

Escalate and provoke Russia using any dirty trick is the name of the game .

For what ? Probably some big money to be made by our bankers . Arms and defence industry etc.

Have they thought through the full implications ? I think they want a conflict where we will give Putin a bloody nose and the Russian people will then throw him out and the big business’s will move in.

But the Russian people love Vald.

This could go badly wrong and we end up with a nuclear war.
