Celtic coaches and the March Grand Tour

453

The March international break is one of the most important of the club season.  It is when managers and coaches get to take a proper look at the players targeted for the summer transfer window.  The Celtic management team will have looked at dozens of players on video since the January window closed, but, this break from domestic football, gives them the chance to do the Grand Tour, their last opportunity before the end of the season.

Having despatched his nearest two rivals away from home, with 10 men, in recent weeks, Brendan Rodgers took enormous pressure off the remainder of the season, which now largely consists of preparing for next month’s Scottish Cup semi-final.  Energies will have made a significant switch towards preparing for July’s Champions League qualifiers.

Getting these decisions right can be the difference between success and failure; Brendan will have used his ‘time off’ wisely.

Delaney’s, you’re right about Cokey being on stage. He would give Frankie Boyle a run for his money.

Art of War , Gerry and I work in the same office and for the same organisation as Jimmynotpaul, , you having an old school pal, saltires is one of my cousins , jimmynotpaul and Hamiltontim knowing each other and the other connections between posters.

Ross Wallace kept Glenn Hysen out of the Sunderland team while he was there.

Not that one,his lad. Known as Tobias. Wish we’d had a good enough defender to keep Glenn,Snr,out of the team.

When I was in Munich. I met a guy in a pub from Paisley. He had cqn on his phone. When I asked him his moniker, he told me that he has never posted, but lurks every day. When I told him my moniker, he said quick as a flash. You are the guy from Dalmuir.

Bobby , yes . Good shout about Roy Kay. He played at left back occasionally in our nightmare 77/78 season .

Bobby, Mark always hit his penalties with great power.

He showed some bottle taking a last minute penalty in the 84 league cup final to make it two each.

    Brth,

A big shiver when I seen that name.

Replaced Naylor in Lenny’s team I believe.

Some of these names I’ve never heard of ?

But someday someone will trace the lineage from TG to current.

    Anton was my first.

Bobby, it was a horrific season but seasons like that , helped shape us as Celtic supporters just like our forefathers who dealt with mainly terrible times on the pitch between 1945 and 1964 .

  17. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Bobby, I can understand your feelings re the 1984 league cup final especially Fatso Sally getting a at trick . I really cant go Sally at all.

    MAHETHEMADMAN

Part of the problem with the lineage is that the position itself was a problem for us. Which meant a fair few stop-gaps,and a few others playing there under duress and necessity.

    Tommy Burns,for example.

I think Jim Brogan took over from Tommy Gemmell, then Andy Lynch. The next full-time established one may well have been Mark Reid. Then it really went downhill!

  19. Not a great one for conspiracy theories but found it strange that the policeman who contracted the nerve agent, as he was first on the scene, was a Detective Sergeant?

Why would a Detective Sergeant be pounding the beat? Why has this not been questioned on mainstream channels?

Putin The Spy and the poison

    Ok

Seen a couple of posts asking why wouldn’t Putin just have the guy killed when they had him in a Russian prison.

Maybe I misunderstood the initial reports that I heard but my understanding was he was released as part of a prisoner exchange (so killing him then wasn’t an option).

Much as I dislike and distrust the British Tory party and their regime I would rather them than Putin any day

Delaney’s , Sinky was fantastic that night in Amsterdam . He was also involved in the build up to our first goal plus later in the game crossed to Frank McGarvey , who subsequently hit the bar from a header .

He was a whole hearted player who was the ‘escape goat ‘ for some our support . When Cooper and Simpson used to boot the crap out of our players when we played Aberdeen, Davie Hay then started playing Sinky in midfield to boot them back . Ferguson would moan about us standing up to his bully boys.

According to Bran McLair , Sinky hated football and had a one man footballers against football campaign. Choccy mentions it in an interviewhe did with Celtic Star website.

I’m with you re Brian Whittaker . I never understood why we signed him. I would have preferred Jim McInally to get a run at full back.
