Celtic coaches and the March Grand Tour

453

The March international break is one of the most important of the club season.  It is when managers and coaches get to take a proper look at the players targeted for the summer transfer window.  The Celtic management team will have looked at dozens of players on video since the January window closed, but, this break from domestic football, gives them the chance to do the Grand Tour, their last opportunity before the end of the season.

Having despatched his nearest two rivals away from home, with 10 men, in recent weeks, Brendan Rodgers took enormous pressure off the remainder of the season, which now largely consists of preparing for next month’s Scottish Cup semi-final.  Energies will have made a significant switch towards preparing for July’s Champions League qualifiers.

Getting these decisions right can be the difference between success and failure; Brendan will have used his ‘time off’ wisely.

I seriously doubt that the UK is provoking Russia over made-up nonsense and false flags. I think they are doing all they can to keep their reactions to clear provocation proportionate and within accepted protocol.

Blaming the UK for this is like blaming rape victims for being attractive.

I agree with you about Johnson, though. An utter buffoon. A devious utter buffoon, admittedly, but he is not a wartime consigliori. Twat might start one and prove it.

  2. Ah remember going on the CSC bus from a pub that Jim Brogan run up at the top of Hamilton, it was a 1-1 home draw vs the huns, it was the horrible 77/78 season. Guid folk on the bus which wasn’t any surprise, just a shame that it was during that pishy season. Jim Brogan was serving behind the bar, if I can remember correctly ?

Last night on, BBC Newsnight, Emily Maitlis, casually dropped a grenade into the unionist mindset by her throw away line…”There is a poll that says, Britons won’t mind losing n.I. just as long as they get they’re brexit!”…..

I’ve just spent a few hours inviting a number of people to a dayooooot/hootenanny in Belfast on 9 June. About 20 at a time,my iPad can’t view the names after that!

My original plan was for Derry, but accommodation might be insufficient in the area. And Belfast wasn’t that simple later in the month either, for some reason!!

Should be a pleasant little weekend, start of the World Cup,etc. I’ve sent it from my hotmail addy,so if you haven’t received it,please check the junk folder. If you haven’t received it at all,and would like to turn up,get slowly blootert in smashing company and discuss all things Celtic, and everything else, please mail me on

Looking forward to this enormously,I’ve got The Fleg back anaw!!!

Which, coincidentally,Russia has been at pains to point out.

The fella in charge of the establishment is Scottish,he was on R4 the other night saying that if anything of that nature was removed from the establishment,he’d shut it down himself by blowing the whistle.

    I believe him.

  5. I’ve posted this on SFM because fair governance is a matter for all clubs and it is a forum that has an audience drawn from them.

The answer to the question is one I’d expect Celtic to be able to provide but still worth asking. It would be interesting to hear what the likes of Petrie and Budge would say.

It’s bit more subtle than asking for a boycott that will not happen because of loyalty.

” With Season Ticket renewal looming clubs will depend on supporter loyalty to purchase.

That more than understandable loyalty makes a boycott unlikely to have an affect, but loyalty is a two edged sword.

There continues to be a high level of mistrust in the SFA and the time taken by the Compliance Officer to complete his work does nothing to reassure purchasers they are paying to watch a game that is fairly govrerned.

Rather than boycott why not ask your club before you purchase what assurance they can give you the game you will be paying good money to watch is totally dependent on fairness on and off the park.

Ask before you buy. It should not take long for our SPL clubs to provide an answer of reassurance.

The nerve agent attack occurring so close to Porton Down is some coincidence is it not?

    Hmmmm

    ###

That’s probably the most inane point that’s being made in this whole argument.

Are we to assume that Porton Down’s reach only extends to a radius of a few miles?

  7. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    AULDHEID

Yes,I know we reassured you that we were taking steps to ensure fairness and transparency, but our efforts weren’t enough. We only have one voice amongst so many.

That’s not a criticism of your initiative,I applaud it for its originality and, frankly, cunning.

But there’s too many of the badgeholders genuinely don’t give a fig what we think. They just lie down with dogs and don’t worry about the fleas. Sure beats those pesky fans.

Btw,ffs don’t give up. You WILL get there. The above is another dripfeed. A constant dripfeed works in time.

The reasons being put forward for the Russian argument may well prove to be correct, but as yet, I’m not aware of any concrete evidence that has categorically proven it.

If you ate, and provide it I’ll quite happily concede the point.

I’m not certain of the exact circumstances of the attack re absolute proof, and until it is proven I’ll retain an open mind.

(I will already concede though that yes, inane, is probably a fine description of my initial comment)

Also a bit flippant given the tragic circumstances of the attack.

Back In the days when men were dragging logs behind them and thinking it would always be thus, I reckon one of my ancestors was being told.

” Why are you cutting across that log?”

    “A wit?”

    ” A wheel?”

    “That will change nothing.”

    :)

  10. Bada Bing ………Just read the article in question and as one who is familiar with the majority of irish sports journos I’ve never heard of this guy. Probably a typical young guy brainwashed by the EPl and with no knowledge of the history of football and the gesture of Broony to the late Liam Miller’s family.

  11. The government has lied about this incident .

They accused Russia with no proof.

They are saying 40 members of the public needed hospital treatment.

A doctor from the Salisbury hospital saying that only 3 persons were ever treated for poison symptoms.

If they can tell one lie then the whole story is a lie.

  12. BMCUW

Celtic’s response would be a lot more reassuring as in – this is what we have done and we are still on the case. Thank you for letter. It helps us and we will be taking it to the SFA.

What would kick the lid off the can of worms, and, get stolen trophies stripped the quickest, or at least, before wee awe die away ?

    1. More, one sided courteous dialogue.

    Or,……

    2. An empty park, with an A4 sheet of paper tacked onto Celtic PLC’s front door, with an included message of, something along the lines of….”Git the trophies stripped, then we’ll talk about renewing our tickets again, k ”

  15. Re Salisbury- the advice about 10 days after the attack, was for folk to wash their clothes- in a domestic washing machine?, where cross contamination issues would have been huge, a ridiculous suggestion.

  16. Bada Bing………..I must say until I read your piece i had no idea the bookie guy even had a newsletter. Well done.

  17. Kevjungle

If it were trench warfare I wouldn’t need to put you in the front line, you would be over top and running, screaming at the enemy before the charge whistle blew.

You would however most likely be on your own. Not a cunning plan.

  18. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    AULDHEID

Please don’t misunderstand my point. The response I suggested is a very likely one,IMO,and only a small minority will see through it.

Say 10% reaching the end of their tether. A dripfeed,as I say.

It doesn’t take too many 10% years for clubs to really feel the pinch.

If Celtic have 53000 ST holders, how many years does it take to hit 40,000?

Three. And 40,000 is when they hit panic mode the last time.

No,P. I genuinely support your initiative. But it won’t happen right away. But as long as people use the same tactic year after year, and year after year, their clubs keep fobbing them off,you have a result.

Celtic in three years, but other clubs could not bear the brunt for that long.

  19. KevJ

Meant to add . I’m no General Melchet. :)

Melchett: Are we all ready to give those French a good licking?

Darling: It’s the Germans we’ll be licking, sir.

    Melchett: Don’t be ridiculous,

Darling. I wouldn’t lick a German if he were glazed in honey!

I know who the enemy is and it’s not Celtic.

Just remind him not to buy the damn rags. And if he does, not to buy bogroll.

And tell him Kieran Tierney is a home-loving Bhoy who loves his team.

He will probably leave eventually and that’s fine, but I genuinely think he knows his development will be better served with us.

  26. WITS- Shaw was nearer £30m 2 years ago, and can’t cut it, so £20m is nowhere near his value for EPL teams IMO
