Celtic player luxury not afforded to Maribor

678

While Ronny Deila rested 10 players ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League play-off decider, Maribor changed only four players for their 3-0 win over Zavrc, who were three points ahead of them on the Slovenian league.  Wednesday’s goalscorer, Bohar, was replaced midway through the second half, while Tavares came on for the last 10 minutes.

Whatever regrets Ronny has over yesterday’s defeat he’ll get over it when he sees a dressing-room full of players who have rested and trained appropriately all week.

    Ronny says (2)………..

“In the first half we had the biggest chances. But we weren’t effective enough and in the second half it was quite even.

It was 1-1 in chances and they scored. Inverness played well and we have to congratulate them.

I learned a lot though – every match you get new answers.

Maybe it was too many new players at the same time and we didn’t get the performance that we wanted. Now we have to focus on Tuesday night.”

EXCLUSIVE: Stefan Scepovic is ideal for Celtic

CELTIC boss Ronny Deila was last night told Serbian striker Stefan Scepovic is the ideal target man for his side.

By: Iain MacfarlanePublished: Mon, August 25, 2014

Deila was told that Scepovic is perfect for Celtic

Scepovic, 24, is expected to sign for Celtic today for £3million from Sporting Gijon.

Last night fellow Serb and ex-Rangers star Gordan Petric backed Scepovic to be a hit.

Petric is an ex-team-mate and pal of Scepovic’s dad Sladan and was general manager at Partizan Belgrade when Scepovic junior was in the youth set-up.

He said: “If Deila is looking for someone to be a target man and hold the ball to bring others into play then Stefan is that player.”

Scepovic, right, spent his childhood in Spain as his dad stayed there after ending his career with Merida. It’s understood he has a Spanish passport, which should negate the need for a work permit.

Gijon pulled Scepovic out of Saturday’s 2-1 win at Numancia as negotiations with Celtic gathered pace.

He made his debut for Serbia in 2012 and has won eight caps.

Celtic also hope to clinch the loan signing of Ghanaian winger Wakaso Mubarak, 24, from Rubin Kazan this week.

  4. Been reading the headlines off newsnow site, “what did Ronny learn from Inverness defeat?” Seems to be the major one.

Well I’m pretty sure he learned that against the bet of the rest (currently) it took a fluke own goal to beat out second string, he learned Efe Ambrose is effective as right back against domestic opposition. He learned that after taking Pukki off there was very little movement up front. We had our best chances while he was on the park. But most importantly I hope he learned not to give msm the light of day.

  7. Morning all. Sun is shining down here at the moment.

Is the ole sun shining in the hearts of CQNers everywhere? Big big week ahead. Nerves setting in already. Worried about defeat yet aware that we might be better off in the EL, for the coefficient.

No matter the result, I believe our manager is on the right track in trying to get us playing as a European team: pass and move must be the mantra.

Have a great week one and all.

    WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED.

  8. Was a little disappointed on Sat that the high tempo pressing game of late had all but gone out of the window. But heyho, tomorrow is another day and I’ll be there as usual with my bhoy (who is now more of a mhan!) to cheer the Hoops on.

I read back after watching that magnificent final episode of BB, and saw your reply to my post. Thanks for that. I answered late on last night, and there were another few posters on who had also enjoyed the series.

The ’69’ comments remind me of the two old retired army officers sitting in their club.

In a silence punctuated only by the loud ticking of a grandfather clock, one suddenly asks:

“When was the last time you had sex?”

    His companion immediately answers: “1955”

The response he gets is: “Good God, that’s a long time”

To which he says, looking at the clock: “Oh, I don’t know, it’s only 20:38 just now”.

    Happy Birthday!

  13. Good morning friends from a gloriously sunny and bright East KIlbride. I get the benefit of the late August Bank Holiday today which is nice. A wee meet up with my much older brother late morning to hack our way around Knightswood Golf Course. Which is nice.

  14. Dentist for me today :(

Because of a complete lack of finance and time it has been about 6 years since i last saw 1.

I must add that i do brush them and have tried my best to look after them!

However i have a couple that badly need attention so i will be surprised if they do not have to be removed.

Because it has been so long, i am no longer registered with a dentist but it is possible to get treatment through the NHS student dentists.

I work for the NHS and deal with this department so i have been aware of this option for a while but have been trying to pluck up the courage to enrol and did so for this years course.

Basically they are 5th year students and this is their final year before going on to practice professionally.

They have a dentist supervising the work that they do but I am a big jessie and am terrified of them at the best of times without the added fear of it being a rookie!

Got my 1st appointment which is just an assessment at 10am today and then i get my 1st treatment tomorrow at 9.15.

The appointments are 2 hours long to allow the students plenty of time to do whatever work they are doing properly.

    Absolutely bricking it!

Anyway……better get on my way :(

Sorry I missed that last night, early night.

    But that was funny:-)

  16. Cloudy but warm here in Barca, enjoyed watching their game in a wee bar with locals last night. Young lads all wearing the strips but unable to afford ticket prices, cheapest tickets for visitors last night was 60 euros. Our metro train last night was heaving with tourists heading to the game, not many of them would have known any of the players other than Messi or Naymar….mes que un club?

venue sorted for tomorrows match, so off for breakfast and a snooze on beach.

  17. Morning all, must say I prefer cut and pastes from the MSM, particularly papers like the Scotsman and Daily Mail, to giving them advertising revenue via links. Even if there are pretty pictures in the articles. Feel free to dismiss me as an old-fashioned lefty, though.
