Celtic player luxury not afforded to Maribor

678

While Ronny Deila rested 10 players ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League play-off decider, Maribor changed only four players for their 3-0 win over Zavrc, who were three points ahead of them on the Slovenian league.  Wednesday’s goalscorer, Bohar, was replaced midway through the second half, while Tavares came on for the last 10 minutes.

Whatever regrets Ronny has over yesterday’s defeat he’ll get over it when he sees a dressing-room full of players who have rested and trained appropriately all week.

Thanks, I phoned my daughter and told my granddaughter that she was going to the game. My daughter can’t get her to bed now. To say she is ecstatic is an understatement. Her first Euro game. :)

“Would he be tempted to do the same, before these games?.”

Probably not. Reaching the Group stages is , currently, a realistic target for us with a reward of around £20 million. Advancing from the Group is unlikely. Should we reach a stage where we need to win one game to advance, then Ronny would be both tempted and justified in resting all our key players.

  18. I wonder how big ( and how noisy) the crowd will be on Tuesday.

PS Quite a few predict Armageddon in terms of crowd numbers at Celtic Park. Would those folks care to comment on the Sevco fans commitment to their team? 31,000 against Dumbarton is an excellent turn out.

I see Stefan Scepovic joined Sporting Gijon on loan from Partizan Belgrade in July 2013. As part of the loan deal Gijon had an option to buy the player for 1 million Euro.

Gijon exercised the right to buy Scepovic in February 2014.

Reports tonight suggest that we will be buying him for around £3 million. A profit of around £2.3 million for Gijon realised within 6 months.

Maybe this explains the shift towards loan signings with an option to buy. Sign the player up early at the agreed price if he is doing the business and sell on at a profit if he exceeds expectations.
