Celtic should start Edouard tonight

136

This crisis cost many their lives, a number from our own community.  It has robbed others of health, livelihoods and companionship.  Those of us fortunate enough to attend Celtic Park tonight will mark the memory of those we lost with a minute’s applause.  We are not over this yet, please take no chances.

Having scored four goals in the away leg, I’m not going to insult you with a cautionary note.  Celtic will qualify comfortably tonight and face AZ Alkmaar next week in the play-off round.  AZ have yet to play a competitive match; tonight will be Celtic’s sixth.  The objective this evening must be to maximise this advantage and ensure the squad is as fit as possible next midweek.

Give whoever needs match practice a run out and blast the final cobwebs into the night sky.  That almost certainly means giving Odsonne Edouard a start.

  1. Eduard will leave at the end of the window. There will be plenty of clubs wanting to snatch him away for sweetie money who are keeping their powder dry the now, hoping there’s little interest & they get a good deal. The problem for them is Viera @ Crystal Palace, Liverpool,Arsenal,Roma & a plethora of others are all doing the same, Celtic will get their £20million+ a hefty sell on clause whatever phat, baldy craturs like Charlie Adam think.

Imagine listening to a half wit like him on any subject.

Am I the only one who read Paul as suggesting that Celtic start with Edouard alongside Kyogo rather than instead of?

    —–

Would indeed, on paper, be an interesting move, if not for the fact that Eddy looks so disinterested now. Just thinking how many of Kyogo’s last four goals ( one v Jablonec & three v Dundee) would Eddy have scored – my take is that he would have hit the keeper with both the first and fourth and not been in position for the other two.

Very sad – some of his earlier form was exquisite & an inspiration.

We would all like to think so….but I would not bet on it.

I thought Edouard looked more like his old self when he came on v Dundee. He played a couple of clever passes inside the box and almost scored a cracker but for a fingertip save by the keeper.

I’d like to see one change from Sunday – Edouard for Rogic.

  5. Andy Patons Mullet on

French Eddy shouldnt be near a starting 11. Kyoko has shown the attitude and application that all the players in green and white should be showing, from saturdays game most are. Eddy is no longer a first choice and its his own making

  6. Nice problems to have and who’d have thought we’d be having this discussion a couple of weeks ago

Also very nice to be looking forward to watching the ‘tic. I hope anyone lucky to be there tonight enjoys themself

As I have said previously, Edouard will get his big money move towards the end of the window. English clubs tend to wait until the last few days before pressing the button.

  8. Can’t eloquently explain reasoning….but I think we’re going to score loads tonight…..gone for high handicap bets.

If they don’t come in no worries only low stakes gor high gains main thing is performance and progression 🍀

    ……………………..

Thank you for the thought. I’m one of the lucky ones to be going and I’ll relish being back to the full but before that I’ll say a silent prayer for those Celtic fans who have passed away since March last year and for everyone else who died due to COVID-19.

  10. I think Eddy will be spurred on with the impact that Kyogo has had.

I don’t think we can underestimate the effect of Covid on the young chap………….

We benefit from attracting players of his potential and calibre…………….agents realise that a Club like ours attracts these type of players – some are on the money, others grow into the jersey.

We’ll get BIG, REAL money for Eddy, sooner or later.

Agree Celtic will get in the region of £15-20M for him in this window and Adams is a half wit.!

Got to start with our Japanese bhoy tonight, he has earned it. Let him soak up the atmosphere and tell all his mates in the J League.!!😀

  15. Season Tickets sold out,go and back the man Celtic, this is precisely the time to get a couple of new guys in, huns looking vulnerable, watching them the other night, they look as if a few players don’t want to be there, and hankering for a move

  16. With apologies this belongs on yesterday’s blog.

Meant to copy my thoughts on Twitter here to which I’ve since added some.

They have some relevance in terms of playing Edouard for football reasons.

Re CQN Article on FFP Ah the break even rules. I kept away from them so good to read about their possible impact.

But at what point do UEFA get involved? They dont grant licences the SFA do. In 2011 they were relieved UEFA did not have to be shown future financial forecasts at monitoring stage & of course the licence itself was granted by SFA in circumstances they decided not to investigate, which is not surprising since they were involved.

My point is what are Celtic doing to ensure SFA do a diligent job or would it not be in the Company’s interest to ensure the grant is FFP compliant?

What I’m really asking is have Celtic decided it’s not their job to keep Rangers competitive & go for CL money & keep Celtic at a competitive level in Europe as opposed to Scotland & ditch the blue pound model?

Failing to plan to qualify for CL for 4 years now looks deliberate. End Tweets.

To which I’ve added in response to blogs about Rangers financial state

With the signing of players based on football needs rather than a return for investors from sell on income, it might be that Celtic have decided the blue pound dependency is too risky.

However it is also very risky to turn our back on what that mob are up to. They are cheats surrounded by cheats and we take our eye off them at our peril.

By “we” I dont mean bloggers who point out their reckless behaviour because that is what it is, wrecking our game. I mean Celtic who did all they could to keep Rangers going, after their collapse and possibly before it given their reluctance to bring their behaviour into the open. In fact it goes beyond reluctance to obstruction and mendacity.

That dependency has produced the consequences we saw last season and hopefully Celtic have learned from it.

My overall point is without some informing us of the situation over there, Scottish football as an institution would do SFA which is why the custodians of it are called the SFA. Reporting the state over there is all grist to the same mill of trying to bring about change.

Who we sign is important but so too is providing a level playing field for them to play on and that is Celtic’s job. One they failed spectacularly to do last season.

  17. The idea of playing Eduard with Kyogo makes a lot of sense to me. Imo, he was playing with a smile on his face against Dundee and he could well form a lethal partnership with the new bhoy.

  18. MadMitch,

If St Stivs doesn’t want to take the bet I will – I can’t make the games due to work/family/financial reasons and wouldn’t want a fun charity bet going to waste if you can’t/won’t meet up.

So long as St Stivs doesn’t mind of course.

    St Stivs?

  19. It has been very frustrating watching Odsonne play. However, I don’t think that he’s the type of player to not try a leg. We all know how hard the last year has been. It has had a detrimental effect on lots of people never mind a young footballer living in a foreign country during a pandemic when for several months we were only allowed out for an hour’s exercise or for essential shopping or a visit to a pharmacist.

I don’t know Eddy’s living arrangements or how much company he has but it must have been bloody tough for him. He also had COVID twice. I’ve not had it once, thankfully, but I would think it must have taken some sort of toll on him and that’s why he has not been operating at full capacity. I read a post from TurkeyBhoy the other week speculating that Odsonne might be suffering from some sort of Long COVID and I don’t think that should be ruled out.

I think there’s an element of panic that he will leave at the end of the window for a greatly reduced fee or see out his contract and walk away for nothing. I don’t think he’s acting out of malicious intent and if he stays beyond the window he’ll give Celtic 100% effort. I’m still a big fan of the lad.

    I disagree that this is Celtic’s job/responsibility.

It is our concern but surely it is within the remit of the governing bodies and not the individual member clubs?

  23. AULDHEID @ 2:15 PM,

Thought I might see a post on this from you, pity you couldn’t illuminate us further on the current FFP rules and their impact – of course under the circumstances totally understandable.

On Paul67s article yesterday he alluded to the fact that Rangers were already in breach but having UCL money this season would have saved them – I didn’t understand that.

I get that the extra from the UCL money would be regarded as football income, what I don’t get is how it effects the last three seasons!?

You will know better than most that the SFA will be in no rush to sanction Rangers for a FFP breach, the fact that as things stand we don’t have one means they don’t even need to start the cover up.

It seems to me that the figures we are talking about are small beer and not a patch on the industrial cheating of Rangers Mk1.

I mentioned in a post on the last article…

… After all they always looked light in terms of this seasons UCL challenge but rather than splurge in the transfer window like they did back in the day with Jelavic, they pretty much went with what they had – the lessons have been learned, the largesse is no longer there, far from it.

The significance of the Jelavic signing won’t be lost on you, they could have saved the money and paid the WTC tax bill with it.

Beyond Rangers being Rangers and following there own rules I see very little parallels in the “hand to mouth” operation at Ibrox and the colossal corruption of the SDM era.

Newco Rangers will have seen a great model for a Scottish football club during Brendan Rodgers’ tenure at Celtic Park – they expect to be a hundred, thousand, million pound business and they’ll throw everything into the mix to achieve that.

Maybe being nieve but I can’t see that as cheating.

    Hail Hail

  24. MH @ 2.29

Fire in — happy to take up the challenge.

You want a bet — great.

Stx2 seems to want a date — not so good.

Chaperones / seconds / lawyers / official witnesses / ha’nners … the list is never ending.

The bet on offer / discussed previously is who will be the better player in the SPL this season?

In the Green / hooped corner — JMcC / newly arrived.

In the Red / sheepy corner — SB / previously of this parish.

My thoughts are that JMcC will be the better player this season.

Stx2 for some reason thinks that SB will be the better player.

Not sure that you would want to take a seat of the SB bus.

Judging criteria — settled will of the CQN family at the end of the season.

What could possibly go wrong — mine clappers vs happy shafters vs board junkies vs PL’s extended family of bean counters and drinking buddies aka B78 et al.

No matter the result — a small donation will be made to Strathcarron.

Recent events have highlighted to me the work that they do.

    Consequently are you in?

  25. Firstly, we will not have a 60,000 crowd tonight. Unless we oversell beyond our capacity as Sevco did on Tuesday.

As a STH in FS5 I likely will not get my seat at any point this season. The whole of the front stand is off limits and we are told that UEFA demands that a larger Red Zone is required for the teams. SFA/SPFL are also demanding that we need a larger Red zone for Domestic matches.

Meanwhile, in another example of lack of even handedness there was no noticeble Red Zone at Ibrox. I dont think they need 4 coaches to transfer the squad to the stadium.

On Pauls suggestion that Edouard starts, I would counter than not one of our attackers deserves to be dropped. Who would Ange drop?

I still reckon Eduoard has no intention of leaving and will stay at Celtic until his contract runs down and will leave on a free under Bosman rules. He will have unreasonable wages request which Brighton have suggested. If there in no £20m transfer fee than any club can afford to give him a bigger signing on fee and bigger wages. He will do this as he feels he owes Celtic nothing and him and his agent will get a larger fee. We cannot make him leave.

Similar to Boerighter he can spin it out and sit out with injuries. If you watch him he doesn’t work and doesn’t seem all that bothered. His pal N’tcham has left for free and has had his contract cancelled. Boyata also left on a Bosman.

Anyway, was he not injured in the warm down on Sunday

  26. !!BADA BING!! on 12TH AUGUST 2021 12:46 PM

DeniaBhoy on 12th August 2021 12:36 pm – correct, Kyogo is the future, another couple of goals tonight and he could be set up for the season, interested clubs know what Eddy can do,they’re letting the clock run down, to get him as cheap as possible.

Yep,I get it,but it also works in reverse. No striker signed on last day,Panic. Most fans of EPL clubs,I have read, are screaming for their club to sign Eddy.At the price we will take,he is an absolute bargain in the EPL.

  27. The Club knows they are going to sell Eddy, so why not buy a striker they want and be out of pocket for a fortnight at worst, so much for out the box thinking.

I would only bring him on tonight when we are 3 goals to the good ( another Japanese Bhoy hat-trick)
