It did have a bus running from it, though I’m pretty sure that shifted to the Eagle Lodge a good few years ago.

The Crow is a decent pub, as is Quinn’s (or as the sign outside says “Quin”). Both very handy for the train station.

Ah, I see. You are referring to changing the board. I thought you were talking about changing how we are regarded by UEFA et al. That’s the part where I don’t think we have any leverage.

    -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

Re UEFA – We need cross border consensus by the ‘other’ clubs to walk away and form another competition. Call ththeir bluff. Nothing to lose.

Good Morning Bhoys from a bright Sunny frosty Central Scotland.Well theBarcelona Circus have come and gone and taken there cheating ways with them and it is a wonder there plane can get in to the air with the weight of the debt they carry. H.H.

Yes, but that takes a lot of coordination and therefore a lot of time. It is a process. Some clubs and countries are just happy to feed off the falling crumbs. They need to be convinced to help rock the boat.

I agree something needs to be done – for the sake of the game if nothing else – but it isn’t going to happen overnight, and of all the things Lawwell IS to blame for, that isn’t one of them.

  5. THAI TIM JIM,

I didn’t realise that you would be in the BV yesterday, as it would have been great to meet up, although it would have been a wee bit troublesome for me get home by public transport afterwards ? Healthwise and transport trouble leaves me with problems trying to get home at night.

Hopefully catch you next time mate ?

    BADA

Aye, I’ve been there since Caesar over from JS.

  8. I did not expect much from the match but there were some good periods were we played very good football and as many mentioned here, let’s hope the progress continues next season in the CL (I just hope we don’t draw Barcelona again).

BTW what was with the fans lighting up in the second half and what were they singing just before it? It made a good spectacle.

  9. Agree with Big Jimmy. Not interested in Europa League.Let’s bring the Treble to Paradise.Another thing, don’t know why some supporters think that Barca mob are our “friends”.Talented but totally cynical, couple of total scumbags in their team. You know who they are.HH

  10. There was a spell in the first half where Celtic worked the ball forward to Moussa with some slick one touch passing that made me think “maybe we do have what it takes”. That move was Borussia Monchengladbach-esque (try saying that fast three times) in it’s beauty.

Of course, the move broke down halfway inside the Barca half, but that’s not the point…

  11. The comments by “Big Peat on (the) Islay (malt)” display a complete lack of perspective.

We were up against one of the best teams ever to play the game, with arguably the greatest player in history in their team. Plus they got a soft penalty.

Considering we were humped by Molde not that long ago, the improvement in just a few months under BR is staggering.

    More perspective required, please….

  12. Davidopolous

As Tonto said to the Lone Ranger, as they gazed up at hundreds of Apaches surrounding them in the Whitehorse valley, “Whaddya mean ‘we’, paleface?”

  13. Davidopolous

Watching that move unfold, I thought this could be one of the greatest ever CL goals if we can finish this.

Sat back down, of course, at the moment you describe.

Respect the will of the people, man! We’ve taken back control.

  15. Infrequent poster these days. The last time I’d consider myself as having been a regular contributor was when I was on discussing my displeasure at where the club were heading, which was in my opinion, the footballing wilderness of trying to qualify for the EL on a regular basis.

My view at that time was the Peter Lawell was taking the club in a direction that would have seen 30,000 attendances, little or no European football, and a team full of projects and journeymen.

I had many a pleasant and interesting debate with others on here who felt he was carrying out his duties adequately and was hamstrung by being in the SPL and many cited the “look what’s happened to the Huns” argument.

Ironically it was in my opinion the loss to them at Hampden that was the catalyst for a rethink. Whether it was DD or PL who instigated the new business model I have no idea, and to be honest, it doesn’t matter.

In a very short space of time, we have gone from heading into relative obscurity to being a top 32 European side.

We are almost certainly going to win the title, in a cup final, CL group stages and playing in front of packed audiences. All achieved in 6 months.

Qualifying for that CL has accelerated our progress financially, and will allow us to kick on again next season.

Should we fail to qualify, the revenue generated this season will still see us strengthening our squad, in preparation for the following season. The gap that the MSM wax about will only get wider. Our challengers may strengthen, but we will add more to our strength than anyone else.

So I take my hat off to the board and PL/DD for the place they have taken us. They’ve played a blinder this season. BR appointment was a master stroke.

The only disappointment for me has been Barca away and it’s clear Brendan made an error but learned from it.

Few more players between Xmas and Summer and with reasonable luck we will be back as a top 16 side within 2 years.

Criticism of Individual performances in certain matches so far, whilst understandable are a minor part of the big picture. It’s likely Lustig, Izzy, Calum, Bitton won’t kick a ball in a CL tie for Celtic in 2017, but they’ve been an integral part of getting us to where we are at present as part of a squad that couldn’t be overhauled entirely in half a season.

I simply can’t get downbeat about last night. I’m more than a little excited about where we are going.

Finally I’m honestly pleased we won’t be in the EL. We have played a very high number of matches already. The midweek rest periods will be welcome in some respects by Brendan I’m sure.

KTF bhoys…. it’s all falling into place.

Well you will have seen some dross as i have over the years, do you not think we are on the up right now? Must have been fun sitting next to you when Ronny was in charge….:))

  20. Perhaps I should have added: to the guys I debated with over the merits of spending v otherwise, you know what, we were probably both correct, in that money needed invested. Not as much as I wanted, and a little more than you thought ideal!! Middle ground?

£10m at Xmas window will do me. £4-5m for you?

    Let’s settle on £7m:-)

  21. Last night ?.

No surprise that Barcelona won . No surprise that Celtic lost . No surprise re the gamesmanship from Barcelona . They have a long history of Beauty and The Beast stuff . Top class players , top class simulators , top class at that conditioning the Ref thing . . it also shouldn’t be ignored that last night’s Ref is well known for his favour the big team approach in Italian fitba ..

Still , life goes on , the sun is out and the carciofi are picked, washed, dried, boxed and all ready to go .

Today’s choons -way down south –

The Rulers – Got to Be Free – ( Trojan )

The Kingstonians – Sufferer (Big Shot )

To go from being bit players in the live version of the Bedroom and Broomsticks soccer game at the Camp Nou to reducing them to a truly wonder goal from Messi last night and a cynical penalty from Suarez is a true indication of how far we have came under Brendan Rodgers. That Izzy was not carded for the penalty tells you that the result was pre ordained.

The referee gave us nothing last night and acted like Barca FC´s bouncer .. he´s an Italian

We can´t bitch and complain about corruption at any level on or off the field when we are not prepared to confront it ourselves.

In fact in all likelihood the only reason’s we don’t confront it is because we are no better or it gets in the way of making money. Yes that does fly in the face of more than a club.

No worries pal, OLD TIM (if he ever made it to bed!) has my card to pass on to BMCUWP Dad next week.

On a serious note, if anyone hears anything about the old Bhoy who collapsed outside the stadium on The Gallowgate last night please let me know.

Every Celtic fan bar none would have pulled your arm off for our current situation when BR took over.

1/100 for the league before December’s in. LCF next up.

    £25m plus in the bank.

We’ve taken one mauling in the toughest of groups, but also two points more than many predicted. BR will have packed in more learning in three months than in three years.

I won’t have a go at those who picked on half the team last night. I take that as a sign of frustration of Celtic not being anywhere near the elite nowadays. To judge Mcgregor, Rogic and Co against this level is unfair.

Having said that, some will have passed the test for Brendan, others won’t have. That’s the nature of the game.

If BR stays here another three seasons, and is allowed to build with financial backing within reason, we should all be very excited. This is certainly not a time for gloom or even frustration. In fact the opposite applies.

We have to realise that we are right in the midst of happy times and when you factor in the Govan omnishambles?

For all we’re hampered and hindered geographically, and that’s all it is, we still have something very special at this football club. Europe still watches us, many big clubs with envy. I can see Celtic growing again.

  27. Gutted we’ve no non-farce football matches left this season.

Ah well, at least I won’t have to listen to upcoming nonsense this weekend, like:

“The Dons trying to win their seventh league cup, while they’re going for number sixteen.

Of course, even that combined total leaves these teams a whopping six league cups short of the magnificent 27 of Rangers, who have dominated this competition throughout its 69 year history, which is itself, of course, 75 years short of Rangers’ glorious existence.”

BIG clubs’ supporters would be absolutely LIVID at our position in the CL and would demand change.

    ====%====

Indeed. I think Man Utd/ Chelsea/Liverpool supporters are livid that their club aren’t in the CL at all.

Yup that little group of non qualifiers and us would be attractive to TV companies.

My point: Football is fluid. Development comes in cycles. It’s a reality and you might as well try to stop raindrops hitting the ground as say it shouldn’t rain.

  29. Out of Europe by Christmas. The season is effectively over apart from the Big Pete’s Bigotfest games and maybe a dreich pay day for the SFA at Hamdump.

Progress perhaps. Let’s see BR sign a new contract and what happens in the transfer windows?

Enjoy the WWE for the remainder of the Season. The PLC (and their helpers), MIB, Media and the SFA etc will have a few twists in the tail for us to make sure we ‘pay up’ and pay their salaries and bonuses next season.

just in from the game……..bloody freezin had the full cycling thermal kit on underneath. Anywho, i didn’t think we would get much out of the game but this time we did show up. I have to admit i lost a lot of respect for barca tonight their behaviour quite frankly was pathetic!!. On a different note my old uncle, who i sit beside and have done more or less since i was 5 (i’m now in my late 50’s lol) has finally left the east end to see out his years in Gourock, is looking to join a supporters bus to take him to his beloved Celtic. i think he mentioned somewhere near the victoria/kempock bar. Any ideas?.

    Fourstonecoppi,

I’m pretty sure the Royalle club in Gourock (Gourock Emerald ?) still run a bus.

If they don’t then your uncle can get the train or bus up to Greenock where there are plenty of options – probably best organised is the Greenock Celtic club.
