  1. VFR800 is now a Monster 821 on

Only read back some of the posts from this morning; none from last nights, though I will look for the post from SFTB that a few have mentioned.

I’m fairly satisfied by our progress in Europe this season and think we are way ahead of where I expected to be. It’s been a remarkable few months!

As for the Barcelona love in, it’s done for me now after that wee **** Neymar’s performance last night. A horrible player and another tax cheat. Messi may be fantastic but he has in effect been given a 2 year suspended sentence for tax evasion. As a club they have carried out more financial doping than the odl Rangers. That’s what we are up against but we are able to just about compete over 90 minutes and that’s progress!

EXPA_CELT on 24th November 2016 9:53 am on the 67th minute the song was “In the heat of Lisbon, the fans came in their thousands to see bhoys become the champions in 67” and the phone lights are to highlight it.

    Very effective.

BIG PEAT OF ISLAY, no’ even worth a response.

    My point.

The EPL are at the table.

    We urny.

  3. Morning all.

Back down in a, for once, glorious Largs from a fogbound freezing Glasgow.

Last night, I thought showed up the gulf in class between Celtic and Barcelona. Both in the quality of football and the approach the teams have to the spirit of the game. In the former, Barcelona are way ahead; in the latter, Celtic most certainly are.

Barcelona exploited every weakness in our players; when we bested them, they resorted to the most cynical tactics, like huckling Scot Sinclair. Neymar, like Joey Barton, is a player I would never want our team to play, no matter how good. Why such a great talent (I won’t honour him with the title “player”) has to behave as he does is beyond me.

Where did that League Cup stuff come from?

When I first saw the name: Big Peat of Islay, I thought, ” This guy will be an easy going, positive kind of chap.”

That shows just how wrong it it to hold a stereotypical view of those from the Isles.

    Bada!

Your comment on Big Peat: ” Must have been fun sitting next to you when Ronny was in charge….:)) ”

    made me smile.

I have only read this morning`s comments which, Big Peat apart, have been mainly positive but TBB suggested earlier that such was not the general case. That being so, I am astounded of forehead that the improvement in Celtic is not obvious to all and that the reason why we cannot compete with the elite is not equally obvious.

Rome wisny built in a day as the saying goes, neither will Celtic be rebuilt in a few months, imo we are on the right road under Brendan, if we haven’t progressed to a pretty much guaranteed CL team in a couple of years then we will have stagnated, but I think we will.

  6. Celtic are a Pot 4 Club – the fact that we qualified for the Group Stages (after the past few seasons form) is a feat in itself.

An objective view of our progress compared to other Pot 4 teams after 5 games played – NONE have won a single game!

    Basel D2 L3 GA8 = 2 pts.

    D. Kiev D2 L3 GA6 = 2 pts,

    Celtic D2 L3 GA15 = 2 pts.

    PSV D1 L4 GA11 = 1 pt.

    CSKA D3 L2 GA8 = 3 pts.

    Legia Warsaw D1 L4 GA24 = 1 pt.

Which means aw you are looking at my points negatively.

  8. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

For as long as Dermot Desmond is our defacto owner can we drop the tax cheat stuff. Barcelona FC can only look on in absolute jealousy at his consummate ability to evade paying his tax liabilities.

Watched back in cold light of day. Team did very well. Fine margins at this level. Last night barca had a fraction of the chances / shots on target that they had in the 2012 game. We had about the same. Wanyama and watt took theirs. Dembele twice and mcgregor didnt.

What i would say though is lenny had success from set pieces against barca by putting the ball in the box. Sinclairs corner last night hit the first man and broonies free kick in second half with everyone up was passed forward along the ground and seconds later was all the way back to gordon. Doesnt matter if you are playing barca or annan athletic i will never understand why these types of opportunities arent taken to test the defence. As i said its fine margins and we need to make the margins our advantage.

  10. Big Peat

How do you propose Celtic change that situation?

My point. Football is not a game of entitlement even for those who ARE at the big table.

So even if we were that would not necessarily mean more CL points if indeed we qualified from that company.

I’d love to see us in it, but bloom where you are planted is my attitude. Be grateful for what is and not what isn’t.

For what isn’t (the team under RD) becomes the creator of what is (for which many but not you apparently are grateful)

But that’s life and football isn’t life it’s just an emotional escape mechanism.

    Enjoy or don’t. It’s a personal choice.

  11. Big Peat:

Is that not rather defeatism masquerading as realism?

  14. We lost,… in doing so, we did not shame or disgrace the game, the club, the jersey or the fans; both the Celtic fans and the global fans of pure, honest, football.

Barcelona won,… in doing so they did shame and disgrace the game, their club, their jersey and their fans; not just their fans but all the global fans of pure, honest, football.

At what stage of hyping, and lying, and doping, and cheating, do the lights eventually get switched off for ever….

It is like celebrating after robbing the homeless of their cardboard boxes, and the world applauds the slime crime whilst the victims are in awe of how smooth their muggers.

  15. My friends in Celtic,

That must have been one of the coldest nights at Parkhead for a good few years. The queue at the toilets at half time was mad.

I have not read back fully and subsequently I apologise if I repeat what has already been stated.

The penalty: I am seated at the opposite end of the ground, but in the pub afterwards, some stated it was a stonewaller whereas others stated it was never a penalty. I need to see the replay to decide for myself.

The “love in” with Barcelona is finished.

The photograph of the impromptu light show has received more “likes” on facing Book than any other football posts.

    Enough of the trivial.

Personally I was disappointed with our performance. I would have liked to have had a right go at them. I realise that BR wound not relish clocking up a whopper of an aggregate deficit if it went pear shaped and it’s easy for me and the crowd to say ” get inta them” , but it’s how I feel.

We were playing a team of multi millionaire superstars. In our current environment we will never be able to attract or keep players of the same status. To beat such a team, the simple fact is that our players must over perform and be in their face for the full 90 minutes. I feel we did not do that.

I thought the referee gave us practically nothing last night, but to continually blame every referee detracts from where we need to make improvements.

Spurs fell short in a much easier group. That is absolutely no consolation, but it shows us the challenge that lies ahead outwith domestic football.

However my friends , like everybody else, I was a Celtic supporter yesterday and I am sooooo proud to be a Celtic supporter today.

    Hail, Hail to all.

  16. I don’t like criticising players but I could not see what value McGregor was adding last night.

We carried no threat down the right and Neymar still had time to put in a perfect pass for the first goal (I’ll come back to that) so if McGregors role was defensive I did not see it working unless it was to harass rather than actually win the ball.

I am wondering more about his selection than his performance and if BR is happy with it. He seems to be and he knows a damn sight more about football than me so I’m left wondering.

On the first goal the ability of Neymar to craft it and Messi to take it is why they are paid so much they think tax evasion is ok and why McGregor is paid less in wages than the taxes they dodge.

There are just some extremely talented players around, but not enough to go around.

So economics drive up their price as any shortage of something desirable does and we find ourselves in a different league.

Come Sunday we are back in our league and I hope that last night’s exertions and injuries don’t narrow the gap between our McGregors and Aberdeen’s Hayes.

  17. Last night we had the pleasure of watching a footballer who is absolutely peerless. Messi was simply a joy to watch. Everything they did went through him. They look for him every time. His touch is beyond belief, actually so good it does him a disservice as he makes it look much easier than it is. His technique, range of passing, vision, calmness on the ball, mentality, discipline and general all round game is astonishingly good.

  18. Played really well, Really enjoyed the night apart from the ref and barca antics. We are in the right direction, The rebirth of last seasons team continues. Brown and Armstrong were ace, Simo and Erik were rocks, Izzy is rusty and it showed against a pacy team who use the dark arts.

Very pleased with us and our attitude, Ref were horrendous and there was no way we were winning last night Barca aside, I have never bought the love in with Barca and I hop last night puts to bed the others who do. We gain nothing from it, We are the wee dug they carry around to show people and then cheat us and take 3 pts when we meet them.

They were better than that, saurez and neymar also rubbing off on Messi as well, Moaning every time someone went near him.

  19. Delighted with the attitude last night.Lets see what BR can bring in in January, and even the summer.Broony needs help.He was again magnificent last night.truly inspiring captain. The two CHs could form a great partnership,KT to come back.Up front,we look good, and Moussa will only improve.

Lets put on a show on Sunday. If no Scott,LG and Moussa together, with Paddy or James wide.

Some would say on that score I’m a fantasist and they might be right, so each to their own fantasy/ belief system I say.

All I will say is I’m very grateful for the life my “defeatist” attitude has given me.

    It’s been a roller coaster.

  22. The antics didn’t bother me one bit, neither did the ref. As for some of the people around me screaming and shouting all night and this and that, I haven’t seen them before, they couldn’t pick Ronnie Deila out of a line up. One guy has the cheek to shout he was sick of seeing Barca.

As for the likes of Big Peat and the Barca tax claimants. You can only pity those who doesn’t understand beautiful football.

  26. dd did not sign for Celtic. Celtic derive no sporting advantage from dd being a shareholder. If it were not him it could be Trump or King or Ken Dodd.

  27. Just my final word on Big Peats post this morning about ” aggregate scores” , which as I posted earlier totally baffled me ?

IF ever the scenario that I suggest earlier ( Celtic Goals for 15, Goals against 18, but we still have 9 points etc), was to happen, is BIg Peat suggesting that because if the ” goals for + against ” column reading like that after 6 CL group games , in other words the 3 other teams had scored one goal more than we had against them over the two games against each team, would he ( Big Peat) suggest that Celtic should contact UEFA and say, ” We wish to withdraw from our proposed participation in the last 16 of this year’s CL, as our ” aggregate scores” against our 3 opponents resulted in a ” aggregate scores loss”, and despite our accusing nine points, in the interests of sporting integrity, it us only proper that Celtic FC request that we withdraw from further participation for this particular season ” ?

Big Peat, you are of course fully entitled to your opinion , but what you posted about ” aggregate scores” as somehow being relative to what is clearly a CL ” league format”, was somewhat baffling ?
