If the ref had properly awarded the handball their first goal would not have stood, it would have been a different result.

Absolutely excellent last night. Much, much better. Tactically and mentally. Great team performance. Deserved to get something from the game.

Good to see Brendan tweaking the formation to make us more solid without restricting his attacking philosophy. Nobody wanted him to park the bus.

First goal really bad, but good to see Boyata stay positive after that. Not sure that would have been the case a year ago.

Forrest excellent, although I would like to see him whip in an early cross now and again.

McGregor also good and took his goal well. Pity we couldn’t have held on a bit longer. Something we need to work on.

Ball watching at the Rodriguez chance, but can’t remember too many other times.

A lot to look forward to in the EL assuming we don’t mess up v Anderlecht.

    Onwards and upwards!

The extra official behind the goal line must have seen it. What is the point of them being there if they can’t spot things like that?

  4. Don’t mean to put a dampener on all the positivity but…

I thought we we pish! James Forrest, KT and Calmac were mince!

The fans throughout were absolutely rotten. So quiet. So quiet. Unbelievably quiet.

Poor night. BR nees to park the Gazebo and go for a 3 or 4 to nil defeat.

    MWD :-)

  5. We lost our composure after the equaliser. It’s gteat the players celebrate with the fans but we were unsettled. Similar thing happened after Griff scored his second against England. Don’t mean to be critical after an excellent night , it’s always been a bugbear of mine.

    Ernie..,

I’m of the opinion that regardless of player mistakes and judgement calls, refs that can’t get their calls right have a greater impact than any individual player

Achingly close to another Celtic Park European giant kill last night.

I was really annoyed that we lost the two goals which imo were cheap. Certainly the kind of goals a good centre half pairing would be sorry to lose.

I’ve documented my assessment of Boyatta previous to the game but in fairness to him he’s not had a steady partner.

Without doubt 2 centre halves required in January which we should afford as there is very little required elsewhere in the squad.

After last night I’m reinvigorated in terms of our European potential. Not saying we can win CL but we can reach last 16.

I’d have a standing rule for all high profile games that whenever Celtic score the scorer immediately picks up the ball from the back of the net and runs up and puts it on the centre circle. Like there was two minutes to go and we were one goal down.

It would maintain the right mindset and unsettle the opposition.

    Maybe too much to ask.

  9. weebobbycollins on

Cultsbhoy…disagree re Boyata…he needs a good partner…and that is no slight on Nir who has done a wonderful job playing out of his natural position. Remember, Rome wasn’t built over the September weekend…Let go of the bone my friend… :-)

  10. Game management I think is something we can improve. For example, Brendan has said we were targeting third place so in that respect a draw would have been enough last night. Highly unlikely Anderlecht will beat Bayern and us in the next two games but now they only need a draw against what is bound to be a weakened Bayern side and then anything could happen at Celtic Park .

If we had been more settled after the equaliser we could have settled for the draw. Having said that we probably would have been screaming for a winner.

  11. Ernie I would hope we celebrated all our goals but maybe the captain shouldn’t be the first or second guy to jump into the crowd.

  12. Thought we were outstanding last night. Some of the best football I’ve seen from us at any level, never mind CL level. James Forrest was unbelievable and can not only play at that level, but excel. KT, CM, SB and SA all outstanding. Was an excellent team performance and credit has to go to BR also for the style of football on show, the confidence the players had and the difference he has made to players like JF, CM NB.

BR will get another one or two of his targets in the January window, which will make us even stronger and help us with the schedule of SC, SPFL and EL games in 2018. Fancy a decent run in the EL.

I’d like to see us look for a new keeper tbh. CG is an excellent shot stopper, but his decision making and distribution always frightens me. Appreciate some of the saves he’s made at crucial times in big games, but think this is one area where we could really improve.

Weird feeling today knowing we lost, but still really chuffed with the team and progress we are seeing under BR.

Said it before and I’ll say it again that Brendan is the best thing to happen to Scottish football since Jock Stein. Just hope he stays on longer than the five years he’s signed up to as he will be a tough act for anyone to follow.

Ernie…no, no, no! The players, like the fans, must celebrate. As usual, I went lulu when the goal went in. It’s part of whole joy of watching your team score in such an important game and it’s part of the great atmosphere created at Celtic Park…if you don’t believe that ask Mats Hummels…

  14. Psychologists tell us that the ability to delay gratification is the key to long term success.

Perhaps that could be applied to the players’ post goal scoring behaviour.

  15. Ernie maybe the fans could try that. 60,000 sitting there quietly after a last minute winner and then going ballistic a couple of days later at work.

  16. CultsBhoy- Last of the famous international PlayBhoys on

Well done to Neil and Hibs..creating a new natural order…Motherwell get back in the groove and St Johnstone rediscover form ( not this weekend though!)..we will see how manageress Hunco perform..still I think they can secure top 6 with a fair wind behind them..

  17. CultsBhoy- Last of the famous international PlayBhoys on

Tom English had a great suggestion last night.

James Forrest should be subjected to edited video highlights of his performance last night .

He should effectively be brainwashed to recognise his true potential.

He was outstanding last night against top opposition. He deserves the nod even over a fit Paddy Roberts on that form.

  18. BORGO67 on 1ST NOVEMBER 2017 9:51 AM

I’m talking about the players, not the fans.

Players can forego celebrating if they need another goal quickly, so it’s not like it isn’t possible.

    Maybe thinking I wish I wasn’t Injured.

  23. Well, I thought we’d get beat…

Secretly, i thought we’d get gubbed.

However, I was absolutely delighted at the performance last night. Proud even. Weird init?

The team did what all could possibly have hoped for yesterday prior to kick off and that was compete, create chances and give the support a reason to stay with them right to the end.

Last night was a valuable learning experience – all the CL matches are. The lessons of last nights will hopefully be carried forward into the home match against Anderlecht and hopefully further into the EL.

The away game against PSG feels like a bit of a nuissance doesn’t it? ;)

Bring on the match fixin’ Belgians!!

There is a pattern of conceding shortly after scoring important goals in high profile games.

That is probably because in the euphoria involved in celebrating the goal, individual and collective concentration goes out the window. Team shape breaks down. Lapses occur.

If that is an issue then perhaps something should be done about it.

    Have you any suggestions?

For sure Paddy will see last night as a missed opportunity but it will hopefully have the effect of pushing both James and Paddy on to yet greater heights.

Jonny Hayes might even get a sniff and I think that could be handy domestically..although last night’s standard is beyond his reach.

    Tea break over.

    Nitpickersrnuts.

Although we lost last night, I’ve a feeling the players grew a little in terms of how to play these teams, having said that I still dont hold out 2 much hope against Qatari st germain.

And if its as is by the time Dedrycks countrymen come calling, we should be looking forward to the new year with Europa football coming , thats all most of us expected when the draw was rigged sorry made.

  28. Have to admit I have always viewed Robben in a similar way to Neymar , great player but,,,.,

last night however the Cheshire Cat grin of the Dutchman and the way he conducted himself was a real highlight.

Celebrating is the bee’s knees ( you should try it mate) .The ref dosent start the game until all players are on the park ( except thon hun bassa yrs ago at Celtic Park against the long dead), once he does those 3 little words should then come into play.
