  1. It has gone no point in venting your spleen about a competition we were never going to win. A stupid schoolboy error that no coach on the planet could plan for turned the game on its head.

I like Jozo but his time at Celtic is up due to the fact that he is 100% unreliable – fitness etc. We all knew we needed another CH but as per usual PL’s wife’s shopping list got mixed up with the transfer shopping list. Had we signed a new CH is there any guarantee that he would even get a sniff at the bench (*see Klimala and Soro as reference points).

We have a more important trophy to win – The SPFL, followed by the cup.

I am, however, concerned about how we imploded after losing the goal, not a good sign during a high pressure game.

Onwards to our next very important game – St Johnstone in the cup.

Ps Lenny, the point of having a squad is using it so one sub last night was puzzling.

  2. A personal opinion : Celtic should slash their prices for the next European campaign. It would be an act of faith recognising the faithful freezing cold fans who paid exhoribant money last night.

    HH.

  3. win cup and league now look at the end of the make some changes only my opion jozo is a bomb scare both rodic and forest are cowards tom roidic apoormans harry hood tom and forest wouuld not lasted 2 min wth big Jock im stillshell shocked hhmust

  4. Last night was Lennyball that we knew we’d get with him. Regardless of the context attack, attack, attack when we didn’t have to. We ran out of steam with Brown, Rogic and Moi who looked knackered after the first half.

Can Celtic Park roar the team on to a pragmatic, boring 0-0 home draw that would take us through?

    Gutted.

  5. AN DUN

We’ve had two terrible 45 minutes in Europe this season, otherwise we’ve defended well enough

  6. The fact is, we didn’t need to win the game last night. But we are unable to manage a result. Another that I noticed last night was how poor looking our bench was. Pity we never signed a couple of players in January. Oh I forgot ,they were sitting in the stand .

  7. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

    @ CELTIC40ME on 28TH FEBRUARY 2020 9:44 AM

I would say that we defended well during Rennes away and, in the main, at home against Cluj in the group stage (although they did get the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offiside). However, we relied upon the heroics of FF against Lazio home and away and even Rennes at home. FF’s performances really cannot be understated.

  8. I note that some are blaming Rogic for second goal. …reposting my view from last night on first two goals that we conceded.

    ——————————–

    First goal ,

we all saw Joso screwing up. However Julienne stopped his run because he expected Jose to deal with the back pass. He let his man pass him. Then when Joso made an arse of it , Julienne tried to make up the ground and stumbled.

In defence I was always told to expect that your team mate will not clear the ball , not make the tackle etc. Assume you will have to tidy up his mistake whilst hoping you won’t have to.

If Julienne had kept an eye in his man, he would have been in position to cover Joso’s and our disaster.

Second goal, this fiasco actually started with CalMac stupidly taking a quick free kick at halfway line ( after Eddie was fouled). Whilst

Eddie is still limping a few yards from the scene of the foul, CalMac takes a quick kick.

    Why?

Instead of waiting for the players in front of him, getting ready to receive a forward pass he played it back to Joso,

Joso under pressure returned the ball back to CalMac,

CalMac again gave it back to Joso , Joso then back to Julienne ( in front of our penalty area).

Julienne under pressure launches it to Rogic and the killer goal is the result.

That entire sequence was self inflicted.

One of our ‘ talented’ playmakers twice needlessly gave the ball to the player on our team least capable of dealing with it.

Copenhagen dictated each of those passes by pressing us back and back untill we made the error. Rogic is getting the blame , but had CalMac waited 10 seconds to allow Eddie to get upfield we should have been pressurising our opponent rather than invite them to dictate the play to us.

One final point… Eddie was limping for 10 ( or more minutes after the penalty) . Once the second Copenhagen goal was scored he should have been taken off

We only used 1 sub !!

    The Onlooker

  9. And at some bloody point we need to talk about Scott Brown.

I love him but age, recovery & pace are as important as presence and we should be planning better than Kouassi or Soro…

  10. Our two biggest euro games of the season saw us concede 6 goals to Cluj and Copenhagen at home in two halves of football.

If we think our defending is ok then I fear for next season.

  11. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

    @ ST TAMS on 28TH FEBRUARY 2020 9:47 AM

Agreed on the bench. No Soro, Klimala, Arzani or Shved and none of them have even had an opportunity to show what they can do. At least three of them are attacking players who could have been utilised.

What is the point of have three fullbacks on the bench?

Lenny isn’t learning that it is a bad idea to play half fit players. Efe Ambrose back in 2012, SB against Cluj and again last night.

  12. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

    @ AN DUN on 28TH FEBRUARY 2020 10:00 AM

It’s formation and tactics that are causing the issues in the main. Although it’s difficult to account for the type of error made by Jozo.

Sevco, who we all agree have inferior players, have not lost at home in Europe under Gerrard. That’s on account of tactics, formation, organisation etc.

We were all over the place after going 1-0 down, just like we were all over the place in the 2nd half in Denmark.

  13. A bit disappointed this morning . But thankful when you look at the league table we have a lot to be delighted about . Going for 9 , league cup in the cabinet . Aiming for a treble four timer ,what’s not to like . As far as I am concerned these are more important than the europa cup . Although I posted a few weeks ago I had reservations regards our defence , I have watch our central defenders struggle against up and at them rough and tumble strikers , against livingstone , Hamilton , Aberdeen ,hearts . And last night the big striker gave them some scary moments . Which is a worry . These guys of ours are over six and a half feet . They shouldn’t be getting pulled all over the place . I can’t mind Paul Elliot , mark rieper ,bobo ,or Virgil getting out muscled as often as our guys . But these things can be fixed ,they are good players just need to exert there authority more . My Facebook was full of gloating huns last night ,sent them all the league table ,think they all went to bed then .but one said thems will pick up 20 million from this run, is that right ,anyone know . HH

  14. THE HANDS CANT HIT WHAT THE EYES CANT SEE

I agree. We have to fundamentally change our approach to European football.

The Celtic way has to be left in the changing rooms and we as fans need to be supportive of that change in approach.

  15. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Just had a wee. Buckling thought,

I’m sure no one on here realistically thought we’d win the europa, right ?

So, that leaves us knowing we’d eventually crash out. Fright?

There were three main attitudes on show since Lennys engagement, we want Lenny, never good enough, willing to wait and see with leanings to extremes.

My chuckle stems from the pent up frustration of those who are never good enough mob and how long it’s taken and how few opportunities they’ve had to have their I told you so moments.

Last nights result/performance at long last allowed them to vent their frustrations as if it’s been obvious all season, their I told you so attitude makes me chuckle at their foolish pride and the fact they have had only three occasions all season to demonstrate their superior football knowledge yet they feel justified. He he he he he

  16. TBH, other than the penalty we got zero luck last night.

They scored from every chance they had.

The other side of the coin is that we were pretty fortunate to beat Lazio in both games.

  17. Getting papped out of European football at this stage makes recruitment and retention of quality players more difficult.

9 or 10 in a row, while important to the support, probably doesn’t mean a lot to players who have no established connection to the club.

  18. After our penalty,Biton should have been brought on right away,to calm, and steady things up,taking Rogic off.We were a bit rocky even then.We can all blame the defence, rightly so last night, but the chances missed over both legs, were unbelievable.Cant leave out criticism of the strikers. We spurned 6 or 7 sitters.

No one seems to remember Forrest shitting himself,a yard out from the back post for a tap in.

  19. read Alex Gordon verdict on last nights game was at all the games alex was talking about feel a bit better now need to get behind the team no more ranting hh

  20. Ernie,

What makes you think any of our players would do any better in Europe with the clubs who would buy them.

How is KTs European season going with Arsenal.Or next ,for that matter.

  21. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on 28th February 2020 10:21 am

    Ernie Lynch,

I thought a contract was an established connection

    ###

It’s a financial connection, not an emotional one.

  22. All about Sunday and Wednesday now. We will need to come back to our euro defects but Lenny addressed it first time round and I think he’ll make us much more structured and less open next season in Europe.

As bad as last night was, lose on Sunday and I’ll feel a lot worse. Let’s be honest, we’re 90 mins away from reading headlines about crisis. We need to get back to winning on Sunday.

  23. Not sure what’s more embarrassing – losing to Copenhagen at home or this website and the people on it. I loved the article about the anniversary of Brendan running for the hills, the day that ‘shocked football’. Not quite lads, shocked a few unemployed Scottish people but that’s about it. Enjoy winning a one-team league and convincing yourselves the standard isn’t atrocious.

  24. For an ambitious young footballer with no previous connection to Celtic the opportunity to showcase your talents on the European stage would outweigh being part of a side going for 9 or 10 in a row.

  26. Brendan Rodgers on 28th February 2020 10:31 am

Yes, Scottish football is the arsehole of beyond.

And some people just pass through it.

  27. THE HANDS CANT HIT WHAT THE EYES CANT SEE

Funny how we all see things differently isn’t t it.

Mind you I can’t imagine many Celtic supporters were criticizing the defence or voicing concerns about their ability at this level after we’d won that group with a game to spare. Funny how quickly things can change

Lazio have scored more goals than anyone except Atalanta in serie a this season, ten more than Juventus and Inter. You need more than an excellent goalkeeper to keep an excellent attacking team to 2 goals over 2 games

  28. Brendan Rodgers is spot on in that we do have a one team league.

That’s no accident. That’s a direct result of a well run football club that has assembled and nurtured the best squad in Scotland and is in a very healthy financial position.

Last night won’t change the fundamentals of Scottish football. On the whole we’re doing it right on and off the field.

We learn our lessons and next season the champions league will be back. Then we push on again.

  29. And some people live there for their entire lives, worshiping awful footballers like Scott Sinclair and Scott Brown. Is there are a club policy to fill your team with rubbish Scotts as well as rubbish Scots?
