  1. Well it just means we will be sweating and biting our nails for another week. When was it any different. However we do need a genuine out and out striker. We are gambling big time without one. Lenny obviously did not have the confidence in Balde to throw him on for Stokes for last 10 mins. One would imagine a game where we were putting in crosses for fun would have suited a big strong centre forward.

  2. 16 roads - Neil Lennon walks on water. on

    TET – Well said.

Better go now and let the negative ones and our Hun guests decide who the latest scapegoat is to be.

    Kayal or Stokes?

    Fill yer boots sure.

Neil Francis Lennon – The best since Stein.

    Take it outta that.

    Slan.

  3. On the way home.

On paper, a good result. On the park, a poor performance against mediocre opposition miles away from Champions League class.

Our pre-season preparation for these games seems built on a Ryanair philosophy. Remove key component parts to generate financial results , while hoping you can achieve the same outcome.

Stokes showed again he is a shadow of Hooper, yet we enter the most important games of our season, both in football terms and financially, without a genuine striker for this level.

Here’s hoping our complacency and financial gamble again goes unpunished next week.

Your loyalty to Anto is commendable.

Nevertheless, the Stokes bashers tonight included Commons and Forrest with 5 to go when he decided to swap feet instead of the quick cross from the byline to the far post.

    Frustrating.

I pointed out it was a bad choice and it was but to condemn a player, who IMO wasn’t nearly as bad tonight as some claim is strange. Little mention of his work rate or willingness to chase and take the bal orl a fantastic FK that the keeper save where as KC had 2 horrendous efforts prior to that, the only decent forward move of the game which saw him play in Sammi (who maybe should have buried it). I am not claiming he is the answer to our striking needs but he wasn’t the worst player in the team by far. And those who think that a player who can’t even get a game for wolves is the answer for us in Europe OMG!!

  5. The Boy Jinky on

Just home now… was raging at celtic getting bullied in first half. .. especially centre halfs by that mars and venus bam goora. They should have been booting the diving bassa up in the air

Second half we controlled it better and played some decent football

Settle for a 1-0 to take with us… hope sammi is fit as he will run a mok again

  6. Just in from a decent game.

Good result, another win, no goals conceded against a physical mob who were not averse to leaving their calling card and were fortunate to still have eleven men on the park at the end.

Mo Bangura looked a lot better than the press he had been given.

Kris and Sammi are so vital to us, while the back four were solid enough.

One goal over there next week will be enough. I would make us odds on to qualify from here if we play up to our standard.

Overflowing Gazebo tonight, great to be back.

there is no debate about that so dont worry about omg

  8. Re Stokes, I didn’t think he played badly at all. Near end he should have tried to pick out a player OK, but overall he put in a good shift.

  9. jude2005 is Neil Lennon \o/ on

Guy on ssb panning Celtic for thousands waiting outside before k o. Any of u Bhoys got complaints?

  10. unfortunately forrest is not improving,he is still playing like a school boy, what in hell are the coaches doing.

Aye that is why he can’t get a game for AC Wolves in the English 2nd division. He is there for a good reason – mince!!

  13. weet weet weet

Forster didn’t really have anything to distinguish himself.

Lustig was untroubled in defence but didn’t do too much going forward.

Ambrose and Wilson handled Bangura fine – though Wilson got in a bit of a tangle once.

Izzy was largely untroubled in defence except one crazy bit of play when he had to improvise a dribble across the box — for once it was not his fault though. He put in some good crosses including for the goal.

Of Brown and Kayal – Brown was the better. They kept possession, stifled Elfsborg but offered little creativity.

Commons was very good tonight. Definitely MOM. Samaras was good in the 2nd half. I think with a different ref one of the Elfsborg players would have made a red for persistent fouling of the pair.

Forrest seldom seemed to get a run on his man but was vaguely threatening producing crosses that seldom cleared the first man. Im not sure whether its him or a lack of balls in behind for him.

Stokes had a bit of a mare I thought. He took a really good free kick but every other touch bar a nice flick through that put Samaras in seemed to go wrong for him. It seems like the burden is crushing him right now. I really hope he can find some form.

Ledley and Mulgrew came on late. Ledley was solid and a bit more positive than Kayal. Mulgrew has definitely not found his range yet.

We totally deserved the win. On tonights performance I honestly wouldn’t pick any of their team before any of ours. Looking at results elsewhere 1-0 is a decent score. Yet a lot of our players were very average (though professional) tonight.

  14. Clean sheet was best goal we scored tonight. Means elfsborg Will need at least a 2 goal win to put us out. If we score over there it is done and dusted.

    No argument from me.

His crosses won us the cup.His never say die got us the 3-3 against Killie which prevented Lenny`s resignation.

I don`t necessarily agree that he is selfish.Unquestionably, though he sometimes makes

    amateurish mistakes.Poor decision making.

    Then again,so did Sammy.:-)

Certainly far too good a player to discard.

    Listen

The reason he is not playing for Wolves is because they wont pay his wages

If you dont make the first team you dont get the big whack (remember what Celtic did with Bobo) Its nothing to do with his ability,he is a much better player than Stokes

If he signs and he may not,I will gracefully accept your apology in a few months

Thats if you are man enough to apologise

    As for Stokes

Well the less said the better

  17. Would someone tell me what Forrest brings to the team,he never finds a man with a cross,he can’t beat his man and in the main if you watch him he hides and looks as though he doesn’t really want the pass,IMO an imposter. And for what it’s worth although I love Neil Lennon as a Celtic man his team play the way he played….I wish the goals were on the shy lines we might attack more, unbelievably turgid to watch. HH

When I passed the ticket office at 6:45 there was a very long queue… if people leave it until then to get tickets they face being late into the match ..

  19. When we get through to the next round, and we will, our biggest problem could be suspensions, going with the ref., display tonight.

  20. The Comfortable Collective on

40, 000 attendance according to the BBC.

That’ll soothe all the huns who were on here last night who kept posting that they were worried the attendance would struggle to top 25, 000.

  21. Oglach, one of the Swedish commentaters wondered why Stokes was not loaned out instead of Bangurra. Good to hear a nutrals view sometimes, he also thought that the first half looked like a practice match.

My own thoughts are that we were very nervous in the first half, a lot better when Ledley came on.

    Big Sammy MOM.

I told you all last week that Elfsborg are a very nasty team, i hope we don’t get a weak ref next week.

  22. On the way to game was unfortunate enough that my friend would not turn off SSB

Bangura this and that celtics fault for everything, top tier closed 24,000 tickets sold.

    Nonsense nonsense nonsense,

Have to be happy with result , no goals lost and officials as poor as scottish mob ,how can he book Kris for diving yet let Bangura away with blatant cheating pretending Kelvin smacked him and the linesman was 2 yards away.

They packed the midfield and stopped a lot of our build up though at times we looked devoid of ideas, we improved as the game went onand I have no doubts we will score over there and progress .

We need an out and out centre forward and can Derk play on the right but overall will gladly settle for that well done celtic and NFL.

    Good night all

I bet both of them single so thanks – when is the formguide for tomorrow being posted? Good man!

  25. Note that it should not be a case of getting Stokes out to get another striker in – we need options.

More than any other position strikers are either in our out of form (Henrik was the bizaree exception though I remember the crisis when he didnt score in 3 games running…..) – Stokes will hit form again but you need a mix of GOOD proven strikers.

Only Celtic seem to think that we dont…….

  26. fanandpatriot –

If Forrest is playing like a schoolboy, why does it have to be down to the coaches? Was Jock Stein a bad manager because Jimmy Quinn never made the grade?

Only joking mate, how are things going with your campaign

I dont always/often agree with you but in fairness you have the courage of your convictions and are prepared to put the time and effort into it.

    Sack the board

  28. The ones that are complaining about standing in a queue for tickets, get there in plenty of time.my son was there with two of his children at 17.00 no problems.

Leave the pub early ,no problem, and BTW I have been there .

  29. The Battered Bunnet on

One-nil at home in a European tie is the minimum requirement, and the requirement was met.

Excepting the Remarkable Georgios Samaras Experience, there really wasn’t a great deal on offer from Celtic, just a group of regular players playing regular football. Few folk will be writing home about what they saw tonight.

We’re going to need to up the game considerably to progress, but my sense is that we will, with a bit of help from some new signings.

    Onwards.
