Clunks – REGARDLESS of whether it was right or wrong to actually sell them we DID sell them BEFORE the most importanyt game of the season and the transfer window is STILL OPEN.

I’m sorry for the shouty bits but fear some of you balance sheet junkies are still missing the point. Next you will have me talking about FACTS – please dont make me do it. We all know what lot like to talk about FACTS…….

    ——————-

fact is they both dont want to be here, regardless of the reason.

Great business but for tonights game i reckon they would have been the wrong choice.

Money aside, there hearts are and would not have been in it.

You are right it is the most important game of the season. Why should they play? On past performance yes. On commitment, no.

Tough choices our manager and directors make.

  3. 16 roads - Neil Lennon walks on water. on

It’s just indecision on the part of wee Jamesy at times, that along with a bit of fear maybe.

That fear of getting slaughtered by the fans,if he makes an error.

As TET pointed out – Beram and Stokesy are trying too hard, because they know that they are liable to get pelters if they make a mistake.

Samaras is some player now the malcontents have gotten off his back.

    Funny that.

Wee Emilio was getting it in the neck as well, just because it took him a while to recover from a bad injury.

A lot of hypocrites now on that score.

  4. Awenaw

Joe will be first choice when match fit.

    Don’t worry… Magners & Brandy shandycsc..

  5. Awe_Naw

Joe never started cos he wasn’t 100%, that I can live with.

Amido, what can be said, I have made my feeling about him know to the blog, not a slight on the boy, just don’t see him making it at Celtic.

  6. Stokes Should Have Been Hooked Much Earlier…..

He Should Not Be Given An Improved Contract….

Just An Additional Year,After The Present Season….

He Has Not Shown The Improvement Which Would Be Expected….

Since He Signed For The Hoops….

And His Application Is Mostly Suspect..

If We Could Swop Him For Mackay Stephen….

    In A Cash + Player Exchange….

    Take It In A Flash….!

    Yet Again…..Oor Ginger Tinkerman …

Cuts Off His Nose To Spite His Face….

And Leaves MegaWattie On The Bench..

When We Need A Forward Who Has Pace,Power…..& Trickery…..

Who Can Play On The Shoulder Of The Opposing Defenders ,And Turn Them…

    How Long Can Wilful Mismanagement..

Be Tolerated By The Gazebo Cognoscenti……?

We did manage in late April to get good press about them not necessarily leaving. ST sales off course. A Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Forget the product we are trying to punt and take the money. Considering the Ki money, the players we already shifted and the CL money its atrocious management as far as I am concerned. We now have a two year cyclic plan. Its all very familiar. A gamble too far and mon the balance sheet and never building from a positon of strength …never mind financial security has never been so apt. I am “bored” with it. Joe Ledley and Fraser Foster next ?

Like yourself, I think the Celtic board are doing a great job & I meant no criticism of your light-hearted post.

However, I welcome Canamalar’s efforts to force our board to bring pressure onto the Scottish football authorities & their mismanagement of our game for the benefit of one member club.

Another chance to confront these issues will probably NEVER occur.

I hope that as many of our shareholders as possible will support Canamalar’s ballsy campaign.

    Good Luck.

  11. Clashcitybhoy – I know – I was referring to the way the huns always argue with what they call FACTS (which are generally selectivly chosen and used out of context!)

Clunks – I dont agree for games like tonight players and club are goal congruent. The players are desparate to do well for themselves first and foremost – I dont believe there would have been any lack of motivation. However we will never know and the only way to judge is if we do or dont get through. Its a massive gamble – from a club which says it doesnt gamble. Funny that!

  12. CultsBhoy loves being 1st forever & ever on

Stokes is great a SPL level so I’d keep him but he’s no speed for higher level..all the ability but not he speed.

unless we got £1m for him I’d retain him.

  13. Anyone know why there were about 50 Elfsborg fans in the JS end in front of the executive boxes?

    Did they hire the boxes?

  14. Stringer Bell on

Fans were fantastic tonight, led by the GB, but lots of activity and singing throughout the ground.

Didn’t have a Lear view of the Commons booking. From where I was, he didn’t dive. Can anyone confirm this?

  15. Mixed performance

    Better second half

Sammi thanks for making the game worth watching …in parts

Kayal …will not adequately replace Vic , neither will Stokes Hooper

Wilson looked as if his mind was somewhere else in the first half …

For me Ambrose looked better than of late , Sammi ( see above ) ..Ledley improved us

Otherwise very ordinary …with some poor performances in the first half

Room for much improvement …we should have enough for this round tho

  16. Stringer bell

I was in the top tier of JS… Looked like an embarrassing dive to me …as my son commented …that’s a Naismith …

  17. Stringer

It was a free kick but Chris made the most of it.(tv view)

Ref was pretty poor and Lizzie booking ad well as sammi booking very petty..

    ——————–

yes we are selling our best players ( wanyama getting 30k a week at southampton and hoops leaving for national team recognition) the next best are ledley and forster. no doubt they will be next to go.

I never said tht they had to go because of the balance sheet. Wanyama in particular should have hurt the balance sheet in order to stay. And i believe he would have had we shelled the bucks.

I am not happy either that our best talent goes. We will punt some more next year and hope we can bring in better.

My argument was never about a balance sheet.

It was purely we could not keep the players (for what ever reason) and they wanted away.

    So sell them.

Not keep them and hope they try hard enough.

  19. 16throads

I don’t agree with your opinion that Forrest may have a bit of fear, all the pundits,ex players/managers say the young play without fear..I know playing for Celtic is a step above average, but that is why these players are here.If I was the manager I would take him aside and tell him to prove those idiots in the stands wrong .Is he up to it,I hope so.

  20. Stringer Bell on

PF /BT thanks. I thought he was touched but went down easy.

I’m sure the money men from cqnplc will be working on it…

  22. Stringer Bell, I was about as far away as I could be, but I fully expected a foul and booking for the Swedish player, Commons was moving at speed. Video replay needed for me.

If it was a dive, fair enough, but I don’t see why he would there, and if Bangura was also guilty of simulation, why was he not booked?

Do we not have a CFC board and cfcplc board.?

    Who decides…?

    ———————–

the board is there to protect the shareholders not the fans.

They have decided to protect by cashing in. Instead of investing.

I know where i would rather be. is there a haopy medium between the 2????

  24. What is needed is a good midfielder.Dont tell me there aren’t any in Spain or Italy who wouldnt jump at the chance of Champions League football.I think John Park and co are looking at leagues where an average Spanish player would stand out.Belgium and Germany seem to be where France were in the 90s.Spain have an abundance of good mid players. We just need one.And a striker.Doyle would do the job, believe me.

    Good Evening.

    An acceptable result tonight.

1-0 at home is not brilliant in terms of ensuring the job is done but from my seat I watched the Elfs string two sets of defenders across the park with very little intention of coming forward.

If they come forward in Sweden then we will have a far greater chance of exploiting space.

However, they will not be gung ho– they will know that if wee get an early goal over there then the tie is over — and that has to be our goal!

Not impressed by the referee tonight — seemed to lose the plot at times.

We need some guile in the middle of the park. Someone to slot a ball straight through a defence in variation of the constant across the park tactics. Both Samaras and Commons at times made runs inviting a forward ball which never came.

Forrest too made similar runs — and we James still needs to stay on his feet at times — even if he has been kicked!

I thought Bangura managed to take the ball down out of the air too often tonight. Don’t get me wrong, there was no end product, but still he gave big Kelvin a hard time at times– though was ultimately an impotent threat.

What will he be like when he plays up front with a partner?

Samaras was a cut above tonight — a big player for us in terms of what he does and in terms of what he says to team mates and to Neil Lennon when he goes to the sidelines.

I reckon the result is enough to spur the continuing transfer negotiations on.

We have one foot in the final qualifier and the same result in a week will do for me!

Can I just check (and I’m sure you and I have had this discussion before), do you understand the board reasoning?

I don’t fully support what they do but I understand that they need to look at guaranteed incomes. Neither VW or GH playing at any stage in favour of the players that have or will appear would guarantee a better result. So they get the guaranteed income.

Had we been guaranteed CL group stage by winning the SPL this season, I have a feeling Hooper would have been allowed to run out his contract, because while he can’t guarantee entry to this year’s CL, he probably would have increased the chances (assuming any replacement we might get isn’t better than him).

As I said I’m not totally behind them but I can see why they’re doing it.

This is after all the same board that’s put together a structure that’s seen us in the last 16 of the CL on three occasions. :)

  28. Ten Men

Yup we played too much crab football at times but lacked the pincer movement.

A fair amount of mussel on show from Swedes at times but in the end we netted.

Enjoyable nights fishing and I think we will net at least one gill over there.

  29. Good result from a mediocre performance

    Taxi for Wilson and Stokes

Wilson unable to deal with ball knocked 60 yards up to a limited forward -Bangura

He also managed to bounce off practically any Swede he challenged

Stokes just lacks the courage to be a centre forward

He never really fancies going in where he might get hurt

He will score loads against weaker opposition in Scotland but is taking up a decent wage for meagre returns

Hopefully someone will be good enough to offer him a move

Samaras was excellent and Forrest did enough but Commons was poor – his delivery from set pieces in the first half especially so.

We should use Saturday to give game time to those who did not play tonight – to se if they could play a part next week

The big lad from Wolves Moloukokou(apologies for spelling) and Balde deserve a chance

    If not why bring them?

We should progress as Elfsberg are pretty limited – big strong and well organised

Playing on the break suited Mo – less effective playing against a team that can sit in more and look to hit on the break

If we can get Ledley and Cha Mulgrew back to start then we should have enough to get through

However we need at least 2 players to come in before the next round

One to replace Hooper and one to replace big Victor

Elfsberg would not have kicked us so readily if VW had been on the park!

Time for the board to back the manager

  31. Just back home from the game. A mediocare celtic performance against mediocre opposition, officiated by a mediocre referee. However going to Sweden with a one goal lead and no away goals conceded is a reasonable outcome. Elfsborg will have to open up a bit which should provide opportunities tonadd to our one goal advantage.

I thought Samaras gave his all, and played well. Forster seemed from my vantage point to make a great finger tip save, deflecting a rasping shot onto the bar. Apart from those two exceptions, the general standard of our play was mediocre.

Commons took an hour to realise the game had started. Stokes was fairly inadequate, as was Kayal – neither appeared capable of filling the roles vacated by Hooper and Wanyama. Kelvin Wilson looked ill at ease all night. Lustig looked as though he needed more pre-season playing time.

It is blindingly obvious we need a midfield maestro, we don’t have one – we played with little variation and imagination in midfield all night, with pedantic sideways and backwards passing all night. Ball retention is important, but we didn’t seem to have many ideas about creating genuine goal scoring opportunities. I’ve got hopes for Rogic but I don’t think he will become the brains in the middle of the park.

We need a replacement for Hooper – was Stokes supposed to be filling that role tonight?

I still think we can go through, but a lot of players will need to raise their game!
