Evening folks,
My summary of the match.
Samaras and Commons our two best attacking players. The team look disjointed and not balanced. Wilson and Ambrose look like a mistake waiting to happen and they made Bangura look a good player early doors.
Midfield not creative enough. Forrest’s direct opponent gets booked very early on. He looked slow to me. Tactics, Forrest hardly saw the ball after that. The guy was shit scared of him, but ball not getting passed to Forrest enough after that.
Stokes is simply not good enough. Izzie had his moments and the one quality ball he produces ends in a goal. Brown and Kayal anonymous.
If lennie does not get his act together next week tactically it’s going to be a tough one. If he sets the team up right and plays the right formation I fancy us strongly.

Interesting stat – Celtic were the only homeside that didn’t concede in tonight’s CL qualifiers.

According to BBC it says FF got a hand to their crossbar strike
To me it looked like a straight hit but if he did, what a save

And, forebye, I’ve discovered where Kirk Broadfoot has gone.
He’s turned to Thespianism, presumably relaizing he was never a footballer, or a chef.
It is a little frustrating how often the ball seems to get played straight under James Forrests feet making him stop … or even better just slightly behind him so he has to turn round.

I agree. Stokes ws very poor. He is so selfish and is never a team player.
At 1-0 he was in space on the left near the goal-line inside the box with Kris and Joe in good positions 6 and 10 yards out. What does Stokes do? He tries to chip the keeper, who catches it easily. A glory-hunter with a very bad attitude.

Tells me we are either shooting too much or not clinical enough when we do or a combination of both. to have 9 shots on target and 1 goal is not good enough.

Your loyalty to Anto is commendable.
Nevertheless, the Stokes bashers tonight included Commons and Forrest with 5 to go when he decided to swap feet instead of the quick cross from the byline to the far post.
Frustrating.

Totally agree Malarkey. Basic coaching of kids is to put the ball in front of the player so he runs on to the ball without breaking stride thus keeping the move flowing. And it’s not just with Forrest this happens. Don’t know if it’s early season rustiness, but it was poor tonight. I was expecting instructions to get the ball wide to Forrest so he could have a right go at the full back who looked slow to me and he had already been booked.

Sticky game. Well done bhoys.
Commons and Samaras were the clever players. Stokes did well. Ledley made our midfield much stronger when he came on. The Bhoys did well tonight.
But… we lack penetration. Everything is across the park.
We need a midfield wizard IMO. We need a Paul McStay. Somebody who drives the play forward, not sideways.

after the next game i would let wilson go,he is a marshmallow of a player.
Kelvin is a player whose confidence can be fragile at times. Notts Forest shennanigans
this week can’t have helped.
Important not to concede a goal at home – sure we will score out there.
The Elfs are an average side.
Confident we will get through.
Hh!!
Not a bad result – no away goal is critical.
We need to score over there to get through. We have shown we are capable but would have liked a bigger safety net.
We NEED a striker – once again we are gambling.
Thanks to the CQN updaters for keeping the cave dwellers like myself informed !!!!

Broony improved in second half, whilst defence was reasonably compact, easily dealing with Bangura
Again, Commons and Samaras key men, only slight worry is that both are now booked for absolutely nothing.
Take 1-0, fitter next week, even possibility of Derk with his pace next week of causing problems.
Think we’ll draw or even win next week, definitely expect a goal
HH
The stokes thing…
I’ve always wanted the boy to be given a chance to shine….
Especially after the killie turnaround .
But
The moment I realised that he simply is not good enough for the highest level was not tonight
But earlier in the week when pressed if he could fill the void left by hooper
His reply of the team needs to replace the goals lost with the sale of hooper.
Any real deal would have swaggered and exclaimed F…! Aye ! I’m yer man ! I’ll bang them in fur us !
It’s ‘Elves’ not ‘Elfs’.
