I dont always/often agree with you but in fairness you have the courage of your convictions and are prepared to put the time and effort into it.

Canamalar is the only one of us who has stuck his head above the parapet.
The rest of us talk about all the brave things we would like OTHER Celtic supporters to do to challenge the abuse our football authorities have visited on Celtic in particular,.. but also every other Scottish club bar one.
If you are a Celtic shareholder & have not pledged your support to Canamalar,… that is down to your own conscience.
But PLEASE don’t come on to CQN later, when it is too late, & say that you would have supported him.
In about 12 minutes we had a corner, came to nothing, they broke up the left with Bangura chasing the ball, James Forrest tracked back and cut out the danger. The lhad is learning his trade.

I was really disappointed with Elfsborg tonight (hehe) they love going forward and their manager decided to keep it tight and pray for a goal, he played to his own teams weakness and failed, as it stands when they play to their strengths next time we face them we will exploit all that space knowing that fouling is no substitute for a sturdy defence, of course he could always try and play the same style again.
Celtic played quite well, I liked Chris and Big Sam’s performances, the defence held a nice line and maintained good concentration Effe was quite good, the midfield did ok kept possession well and had control of the match, lacked a little bit of imagination but when your dancing partner is concentrating on stopping you (ie booting you every time you get past them) what can you do ?, our forwards had little space to move around in and a lack of credible service but I expect you will do much better in the next game.
Just home – tremendous support for Celtic who should just about manage to get through the tie after keeping a clean sheet.
Not a disaster by any means considering the hurdles the club have put in front of Neil Lennon. When we scored.you could see that he was satisfied with one nil, and the tie slightly in Celtic’s favour where in the return leg, Elfsborg will have to come out.
Predictable swinging high balls all night for the ghost of Gary Hooper, however only eventually paid off when Commons momentarily filled the gap, Stokes didn’t, and when he missed in the opening minutes, there was a stadium wide sigh.
Wilson and Ambrose were solid as was Izzy and Lustig, and NFL should tell Nottingham Forrest to come back when we have signed a KW replacement and to avoid a repeat the GH scenario, that’s if we’re serious about making it to the CL.
Samaras was excellent, Brown and Kayal especially struggled, James Forrest was his usual busy self, but failed to find that one telling goalmaking pass.
blantyretim on
Watching the match on TV it was obvious they had no intention of attacking(other than Celtic players)
We will come up against worse teams in the league who play the same way.
I am confident of going to Sweden and finishing the tie.
Does anyone think Ross County will play any different on Saturday..
very good point especialy when we draw a team who should be fitter and sharper than us,its a huge risk when two of our top players havent been replaced, how would victor have delt with the tackles tonight?how would hoops have delt with stokes’s chances?who knows,,but i’d rather have them or similar than have nothing or weaker,,so many predicted 3:0 or similar wins tonight dont know how that can be justified being the time of the season and your top striker and best midfielder gone and not replaced, maybe some havent adjusted yet h.h
And our new star being introduced at half time, the lad asks him, “Do you have a message for the Celtic fans?”
“Come on You Bhoys in Green, Hail Hail!” Replies Derk, brilliant way to introduce yourself to the faithful.

I honestly believe Henrick would have found it difficult tonight. Not enough passes in behind the defence for the forwards to run on to, quality of crosses were quite poor – 1 good cross from Izzy a defensive cock up from the Swedes and KC nips in to score. IMO we are far too ponderous in midfield far too many square balls. we need a Naka or Lubo MKII

Evening
Just in from match and not had chance to read back blog.
Poor in the first half- Sammy aside- but much better after break with Commons, Brown and Izzy also very good. Bit shaky in central defence and unlike Dougc above I thought Beram was pretty ordinary.
Stokes got a lot of criticism as game wore on and there is no doubt he doesn’t have the ‘quick feet’ that Hooper had ( when on form) but he is not and never has been a lone striker. When we scored I’d have been tempted to put a striker on – perhaps for James Forrest- to force the issue. I’d imagine GS was feeling pretty sore by the time he went off but I don’t know if I’d have put Charlie M on.
I thought the persistent booing of Bangura was a bit much although after his pathetic attempt to get Kelvin W sent off my supply of sympathy dwindled very quickly.
They were well organised and maybe better than Helsinki last season but inferior to Helsingborg. As they’ll have to come out at us we have to be careful we don’t start slowly ( or think that if we get an early goal that we are home and hosed) but overall I’d be not just disappointed if they put us out but surprised
BT, They were more like Orcs than Elfs, and we will finish the tie in Sweden, Sammy will run them ragged next week.

in an ideal world then yes. too much money to risk (from both sides) if an injury happens.
If a player will not commit off the field then he will NOT commit on the field.
We have seen as much with hooper all fecking year.
We failed as a club in knowing that both were for the off, in that we did not have anything lined up.
Stokes and kayal are good players, but not the players who have left us.
We did the right thing in selling.
Vic would have given his all tonight, maybe. Hoops would have mumped around the pitch like a teenager with a bad attitude who was asked to tidy his room!!!

I think Kris will play off Sammi next week. Ledleys non start tonight has me worried.
The Dutch lad needed two medicals and with Balde not getting a few mins tonight. I dont see any of them starting. Was Rogic on the bench ?
I’ll take a 1-0 in Europe at home any day of the week. Ropey performance again until Ledley came on. The team seemed to settle down then and start to play like they know they can. Another banana skin avoided tonight and set’s us up nicely for the return. As long as they don’t get two early goals were through.
Some of our players still need to get upto speed.
Wilson’s body might have been on the pitch but his head was elsewhere for the first 70 minutes. Genuinely worried if we stick with him in the middle. His current situation is having an effect on his performance. Lustiq or Mulgrew should be moved to CB and Matthews at RB and Wilson dropped until his future is sorted. Especially in the CL qualifiers.
Kayal reminds me of Izzy after his injury. Ghost of the same player before his injury, here is hoping like Izzy he can find the player we remember. A tough as old boots midfield tackler, he seems reluctant to go into tackles like he used to. Without that he just looks average and average is something we don’t need in the heart of team.
Forrest continues to frustrate, someone needs to tell him he is a winger, his job is to commit his defender and beat him. I know he is young but he has enough experience of the first team now. Stop cutting inside and laying the ball off for someone else to do something Jamesie. You have the talent to win us games by beating your opponent and delivering a goal scoring opportunity or scoring yourself if clean through.
Some great performances too tonight. Sammi & Lustiq were a class above everyone else. We still need a striker though.
Once again our lack of creativity in the middle of the park comes to the fore.
Rogic must be tearing his hair out watching sideways pass after sideways pass tonight while he warms the bench.
Lenny shows very average sides (and Elfsborg were one) far too much respect at times.
Lets hope our failure to prepare ( selling our best goalscorer and not replacing him) does not cost us dearly in Sweden next Wednesday.

Pleased with today’s result, would have gladly taken 0.0 before game.
Thought Bangura was very professional in his performance.
Also interesting that Balde didn’t come on for Stokes in the last 10, which IMHO suggests the manager has already decided he is a long term project rather than short to medium
If we score in Sweden, which we are capable of doing, we will go through.
