FFS Think I should go back to bed..

I would not be surprised to see big Dorus between the sticks before long.

Also think Erik would be better beside Kolo.

    Paddy Roberts in for Jamesy.

Looks good though….played with a real desire last night.

I have stated I think UEFA’s rules are ridiculous . but it’s their ball.

    Rightly or wrongly.

Please don’t get me wrong. I think that EUFA has made a dog’s breakfast of it’s rules but what is, is.

Other clubs have been fined because, in some cases, one solitary supporter flew a Palestinian flag -hardly a hanging offence, you might think – but still incurred the wrath of EUFA.

I am not sufficiently clued up as to whether judicial appeals to eg Court of Human Rights is possible but from a layman’s point of view do not see that as feasible. No one is losing their right to freedom of speech. The question would be are there limits to time and place to such freedoms eg if people interrupt a religious service by shouting anti-religious remarks would that be appropriate behaviour or breach of the peace?

Frankly, would rather see the amount of money imposed on CFC by EUFA -IF it is to be a fine and not more stringent sanction – used to alleviate suffering on the West Bank. Just my thoughts.

  5. On a completely non-flag related matter….

Do you know the last time Celtic managed to score 5 or more goals in a single European match?

Celtic 8 – FK Suduva 1 in 2002/3 (The Seville season)

And btw, Hapoel Beer Sheva have a “V” in their name…

    You know what I mean.

  6. On the football we are only going to get better. It was fantastic last night at times. We will score a bucket load this season. But there are things to work on and arguably that wasn’t our best team.

Scottish opponents will be fearing us again. Get your money on a record points total this season, goals scored column etc European opponents will fancy a goal against us but I think they will also show us a bit more respect than in recent seasons.

Better players under a better manager, some recovering lost form – who’d a thunk it?

  7. Up early and watched the full game.

Chris Sutton is now embarrassing himself with his comments. Yes, he is entitled to his opinion. Yes, he is only saying what a lot of fans think. Yes, he may have a valid point. But to go on and on constantly repeating the same thing ad infinitum is boring in the extreme and shows him up in a very bad light.

He constantly mentions “the last two years” and “under Ronny” this and that. Even the guys in the studio were ripping the piss out of him.

He tepeated the same point so often I think he should change his name to “The Green Man” :-)

  8. An teach – I respect your opinion and there is logic in what you say – however I can tell you that people in Palestine would rather the international community highlight the injustice than simply send money/ clothing etc

The root of the problem is the occupation and Israelis will to wipe Palestine off the map. Just like S Africa that takes more than aid to resolve.

My last word for today on this – it was the right thing to do. If UEFA impose a punishment expect a storm of publicity.

And I checked – Palestine are full FIFA members. They were awarded a ‘development’ prize in 2008 and praised by FIFA.

  9. I wonder if those folk waving their flags paused to think that not only would more Palestinian people be supporting Hapoel but if you asked them who’d they rather progress, they would say Hapoel also. You think of it that way then why would they wave their flags.

  10. GREENPINATA on 18TH AUGUST 2016 8:49 AM

So if UEFA decide , possibly after the event, that the flying of the Irish Tricolour by Celtic fans breaches their rules and Celtic are punished, you’re OK with that?

  11. DAVIDOPOULOS on 18TH AUGUST 2016 8:28 AM

It must have been the easiest gig lineker will get all season but he was excellent and so was Gordon as usual.

Sutton is entertaining in a Geoffrey boycott way – it’s amusing when we do well but it grinds my gears when we’re getting shown up by superior opposition.

As i was saying to BMCUWP yesterday.

The only way to get people to learn is by repetition:)

We could of course discuss any subject…History, Politics, Literature etc

And of course,….if it wasnt for me, you would all agree about everything:)

    Geoffrey Boycott – brilliant!

I have this image of Sutton watching his kids play football on a Saturday morning and him tearing strips off every single player from the sideline. Imagine what it must have been like playing for him at Lincoln!

He’s a born winner, but sometimes filtering your thoughts before you say them can be a good thing!

  14. Great performance last night – just a pity about the two sloppy goals we conceded. We’re going to be great to watch this season.

Well done to everyone who flew the Palestinian flags last night – the message got out to people in oppressed Palestine and was very much appreciated. Twitter was full of messages of support from around the world too. It won’t change much but if it has lifted spirits a little then it was well worth it IMO. Incidentally, apparently in Israel some fans also fly the Palestinian flag at games as a protest. Interesting, eh?

  15. traditionalist88 on

The outcry over a particular arrangement of colours will never be short of baffling.

You could say the same about a particular arrangement of letters but then ‘FCUK UEFA’ slightly rearranged does send out a clear message whilst the display of a few flags was borne of solidarity and would have happened whether Uefa had banned the flag or not.

On the park, superb stuff, we can still improve, but this is what you can progress – its taken a matter of weeks and its all we asked for when our limitations and lack of progress under RD were called out.

  16. traditionalist88 on

At 3-2 when we got ourselves together and started attacking them again I must admit the thought of a 6-2 crossed my mind:) It should have been too but for a great save when Sinclair outpaced their defender and the keeper tipped it wide.

We will score at least once next week, probably more.

  17. So we had on dick counting palastinian flags all night. Why am I not surprised.

I think I counted 34 cops, 5 ambulance men/women and 12 wee disabled blue cars at my first game when I was wee.

Brilliant performance last night by the Bhoys. First half was outstanding and second half brilliant for the way we bounced back from a bit of a setback and 3 mins of crazy poor play.

Go on UEFA. Shut a stand. Help highlight the desperate apartheid in the Middle East. Ah but you won’t. You’ll fine and real financial reward to corporate corrupt cowards. FCUK UEFA.

How can I be premature with a half time assessment at half time? :-]

  18. Celtic draw Hapoel….

    Huns – who?

Shortly after – ooh they knocked out Olympiacos that will be tough.

Last night – that mob are p***

  19. Not interested in any flag debate – personal opinion, who are UEFA to tell any individual what flag they can take to a game of football.

    Anyway

How did those flags get in ? There was in my view an increased steward presence – most certainly was at my gates

I had my green and white jacket checked by a steward as I entered – it was rolled up under my arm, and I was asked by Steward if was a flag, as he asked me to show him

Now if this was repeated at all turnstiles, – how do UEFA propose we stop fans bringing in a flag ?????

Right I’m away to Sipsini’s work to watch his summersault :-))))

    Hail Hail

  20. Morning fholks.

Thought last night was another one of those occasions only Paradise can deliver.Totally enthralling game that was equalled by the atmosphere. After the 5th goal I said to my bhoy there’s no place on Earth i’d rather be when the place is rocking like it was,it’s just magical.

Our improvement under Brendan is as evident as the optimism within our support, everything’s coming along nicely. The goals we conceded were a blip, what came after is more an example of what’s to lies ahead.

Thought the whole team played a part with some standout performers;Leigh,James and Broony spring to mind. But,for me,what typified the new mentality of the team more than anything was Demebele’s Usain Bolt impersonation in trying to close down a Sheva player near the touchline on the Main Stand, total effort and commitment.

    The future’s green.

    FOREVERANDEVER!!!

  21. The Green Man –

I am sure everyone on CQN is eternally grateful to have you there to educate us and show us the way to enlightenment.

    We are not worthy.

  22. One final thing

Qualifying for Champions league is worth around £28m pound

    Nice :-)

Now who should we be looking to sign end of next week if we make it ????

  23. Cowiebhoy

The signing is in the pipe line, midfielder, top class. Hand picked by Brendan. Oooft.

  24. I thought it was a brilliant game last night, exiting entertaining fast football at a very hight level, but it’s only half time and we hold a good lead, I was told last night that team had only 6 goals against them in they’r domestic league last season, if true that’s an outstanding result for us last night.

Sorry to see that the leaders of the GB, or who ever it was last night on the flag incident ( and as usual no one will have the balls to put they’r hands up and say who they where, cowards that they are) are back to grooming kids to break UEFA rules, one thing you won’t see are the leaders who ever they are being done for it,.

I put £5 a week by from my weekly pension to buy my season ticket every year to watch my team play, and cheer them on, why should part of my £5 go towards paying a UEFA fines? Because people break rules? My politics are my business, my actions on how I go about my politics are my business and no one else’s, if I have strong feelings on some things and I form them aggressively then it’s Tony Donnelly who has to accept the consequences, no one else, the buck stops at me.

No one will put they’r hand up for last nights breaking of UEFA rules, why? Because they are cowards, and they groom kids to do they’r dirty work, the lowest form of man, IMO.

  25. MWD

“How can I be premature with a half time assessment at half time?”

Yes, quite, I can see how that makes me look like an eejit.

I stand by my view that the Brendan revolution has yet to fully develop. At 3:2 with a strong handball claim for a pen to Hapoel overlooked, I wonder how many were willing to venture the “this would not have happened under RD” line. Ronny produced a very spirited performance in his first season with the Inter home tie too before it all went pear shaped in season 2.

  26. I cannot remember Scott Brown playing better than he did last night. Superb.

Wouldn`t SPFL games be so much more enjoyable if we had the same trust in the Ref as we did last night? As always, there were decisions ( or a lack of) with which I disagreed but at no time did I feel he was cheating. I cannot say the same for games in Caledonia..

    JJ

  27. IT’S A FLAG FFS, MATERIAL, CAN’T HARM ANYONE.

We have been cheated for decades by the hun and you gorge on jelly and ice cream to celebrate.

Pathetic, worse than huns, they know no better.

Why did our substitutes warm up at opposite side than usual?

That has kept me awake all night pondering the rights and wrongs from last night

  29. Go tell the Spartim on

Show the courage of your convictions and stump up to pay the fine that you incurred.

  30. blantyretim is praying for the Knox family

Is it just my imagination or is there more space down that end? Pretty sure I’ve seen it before at a European match.

  31. Great result last night., but why do we give soft goals away. but I’m sure we have done enough to qualify into the next round, took ages to get out of the 5 pound car park, That needs to be steward better. one way in and out.any after all that I’m sure that Speed Camera just along from the social club, caught me, the driver in front of me was hammering it.next thing a flash then another which was for me.does it operate. this will be me caught in the last 2 Yrs.what will happen will I be banned many thanks,
