Sorry but it’s not just about doing the right thing by your fellow supporters. It’s also whether you consider that this (or any other action) will have a beneficial effect for those you are supporting.

If you consider this outweighs any detrimental effect on your fellow supporter then I’m afraid it’s entirely justifiable.

If the club are fined, will that actually be detrimental to the fans overall? Would we be ejected from the competition? I suspect that’s highly unlikely and would open a very large can of worms.

Thats only your take on things of course.

If people take the decision to show compassion and solidarity by the simple act of waving a flag, thats what they will do.

No amount of media or institutional criticism will make a jot of difference.

Maybe the Celtic Board will do it when challenging any sanction that’s imposed.

  4. BMCUWP Yep good one Bobby. Majority of kiwis just think it is wrong. Biggest Telecom recently announced a minimum living wage for all employees regardless of employment status and was widely applauded. My old neighbour is a NZ First MP, centre left and taking votes off the Nats and Labour. NZ politics moving back to the middle. Still too big a wage gap between rich and poor but at least for now plenty of jobs. Hope yer keeping well Bobby, my girls were all back last week for Mrs T’s big five oh. We had a punks not dead party, green Mohawks.

Yup. Nail on head hit. Celtic FC have made their rules clear. Too many zoomers for me. Bye for now.

Pictures of the flags at Celtic Park posted to my Facebook page with the comment ”Being a Palestinian, seeing such photos and solidarity crowds with Palestine gives me hope and optimism despite the fact that we have been under Israeli oppression and occupation since decades”.

Well done, those bhoys. Celtic, more than a club.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Couldn’t make it up, then again. Anyway, surely such photos could have been taken outside the stadium. BTW if Celtic are so important to you – why hurt them?

  13. Think the oul codgers on CQN have forgotten what it’s like when you are young and want to change the world.

I loved last night’s flag display by the fans and a few people I have met today, while not Celtic fans, have said how much they admire the Celtic support for doing it.

Part of the reason I am a Celtic fan is because we are more than just a football team.

    We stand for more

Well you know we get a limited ticket allocations at some grounds in this country because some fans cant behave themselves. So it’s not unreasonable to expect that, otherwise decent people who do carry the clubs good name end up missing out.

Fot CL games, the home club is told not to broadcast any tunes after a specific time, to keep the airways free for the CL theme.

That’s why YNWA was aired earliet than normal.

    ###

Maybe when they were young they didn’t want to change the world. Just their place in it.

  18. Anyway I’m revelling in our £45 million strike force of Griffiths, Dembele, Sinclair and Roberts. Wee Jimmy’s no too bad these days either.

  19. Who runs UEFA competitions? Oh, er…………em, UEFA – surprise, surprise. They make the rules and administer the results, sanctions for rule breakers. Simples.

So, those who knowingly break the UEFA rules (whether we agree with them or not), knowingly and intentionally damage our club. That is not acceptable as far as I’m concerned. These people are not Celtic “supporters”.

Political opinions are a bit like Ar§§hol§s; almost everyone has one. We all have the right to demonstrate in support of our beliefs but IMO, Celtic Park is not the place to do that; especially knowing the damage done to our club. ’nuff said. Back tae the fitba!

  20. Thanks Bobby it was. Classic family portraits . L had a great time, lots of family around.

Yep let’s show YOOFA whose boss and they can shove their competition. So what morally and politically pure egalitarian fitba teams can we play. They will be lucky to be graced by our presence. Did the flags come with compulsory nose rings. Sometimes the GB are inspiring sometimes just pure pish. GB section tickets should be double the price to pay the fines.

    Feck off with that.

  24. Weéminger

Apart from what evidence is there to show that the demonstration did anything to benefit the plight of the Palestinians rather than at those demonstrating I’ll remain unconvinced.

A fine on the club though is hard evidence of the cost.

My core point stands. It is a demo paid for by other peoples money whether they want to or not and so undermines itself.

Think the oul codgers on CQN have forgotten what it’s like when you are young and want to change the world.

By all means; they should be encouraged to do just that but Celtic Park should not be the venue, since punitive results are inevitable.

Oldco last played in Europe in the 2011/12 qualifiers, so that co-efficient would have expired at end of last season, so the reason for zero co-efficient is inconclusive.

    ________________________________________________________

The reason for their zero co-efficient is because it is zero. Uefa don’t see them as a new club.

  27. Macjay,

Yes it’s a lovely spot, about a 10 minute spin up the road.

    thetimreaper,

Thanks the entry conditions are clear. I know it’s difficult for the PLC but I honestly can’t understand how so many ‘flags’ that were likely to attract a sanction from UEFA got into the ground? Were there just too many?

Given the likelihood of some form of a sanction, I wouldn’t be surprised if the PLC were tempted to close the standing section for future UEFA competition matches. Who knows?

    Ernie,

So you are disagreeing with UEFA standpoint on flags because there are a whole number of nations participating in UEFA Competitions that could be argued to be a participant in some kind of ‘hostility’?

That would include NATO Members, France, Germany, UK, Spain etc, etc?

To illustrate your point you randomly selected the Irish Tricolour?

    Okay ;)

Had a wee laugh to myself at your level of annoyance caused by the p.a. operator during YNWA.

How annoyed would you be trying to listen to shortbread radio 80 mls offshore and having Donegal Coastguards shouting weather forecasts starting pretty much a minute before each goal was scored?

I,ll have a word with the P.A. Operator if you sort out these pesky Coastguards…

  29. Ernie Lynch

Indeed but if they won’t why shouldn’t those who disagree if they feel so strongly about it?

FAC is a good example of supporters taking a lead to get meaningful change.

  30. Bhoylo83 when I was young I went to Rafa and Gaza City to see it for myself. Wonder how many hanky wavers yesterday have done that. Realised just how much of a guilable bhoy I was when I witnessed the reality of the Saudi silver elite keeping there own people willfully ignorant. You can control ignorant people. I coulda stayed on my couch or waived a wee pennant although not sure that would have shook the earth or changed the World.

I don’t want to get into a slagging match, but as second generation Irish, I would gladly say that although we were treated like s***, to compare it to conditions in Gaza and The West bank now minimises how bad it is for the Palestinian people.
