  1. My friends in Celtic,

For the netural it must have been a great game and a positive advert for Celtic. But for any Celtic fan it was a nail biting time with the stakes being soooooooooo high..

This game is not over,we still have a test to pass. But wth BR at the helm.i am confident. Never complacent, but quietly confident.

Any successful teams need a bit of luck. If Scott Brown had a penalty awarded against him then the whole outcome could have been quite different.. Was it a penalty? Maybe, but who cares, we are due a wee bit of luck in this competition.

I am absolutely delighted with BR. As a famous figure from the past once said about his general ” I know he is good, but is he lucky”

You cannot train people to be lucky, you either have it or you don’t.

I feel BR is both good and lucky. Bingo.

    Hail, Hail, Superstitiouscsc.

  2. Well got up early for a change lately to read all the positive posts about our display last night, some folk are never happy.

Well done the hoops, actually wish I was fit enoughto go into work and somersault down the works passage way.:))

They dont like Celtic fans waving flags….because they want to control what supporters think, by threat.

These are the kind of curtain twitching morons who feel the need to control….offended by everything, and showing their true colours….like Mats/Mr Pastry/ Alfie….who doesnt hide his dislike of the poor and unfortunate.

    Huns out.

Spelling isn’t important to me as you well know.

  5. Why would any Celtic fan do a deliberate act that he/ she knew would harm the Club ?

I thought our fans were great last night, although maybe some were manipulated.

We should be talking about a great result, not a handful of attention seekers who put global politics before the wellbeing of our club.

Had to go into work last night after the game as I am working night shift for a couple of weeks.

Few supporters of the deid club also working but surprisingly didn’t want to chat about the game or football in general. They know what’s comming and it is beg gibing to terrify them lol

Thats your opinion, and you are welcome to it.

    But…you dont speak for me.

Your post seems to suggest the …..’keep politics out of football’ argument.

Which would be fine if we didnt have rabid ideological Tories on the PLC.

Nobody….and i mean nobody has any right to tell me what i should believe in.

Its an attempt at political control….it will fail.

You see….when you have a board that condones cheating,….people tend to ignore them, quite rightly.

Id rather have principles than greed as my motivation.

    Im not the only one

Greenpinata, did Robert Kelly put global politics before the well being of our club?

  9. Pictures of the flags at Celtic Park posted to my Facebook page with the comment ”Being a Palestinian, seeing such photos and solidarity crowds with Palestine gives me hope and optimism despite the fact that we have been under Israeli oppression and occupation since decades”.

Well done, those bhoys. Celtic, more than a club.

  10. Absolutely floated into work this morning. Olympiacos couldn’t score against HBS in 180 mins, we scored 5 and it could easily have been 8. Our attacking play is unreal. I wouldn’t be suprised if some EPL clubs are eying up Leigh, £15m is small change for them. I thought he was outstanding, he gave their centre halves a torrid time. Thankfully he’s going nowhere. Would like to see Erik get a solid run out at the weekend and be available for next week. If we get it right at the back, just wow.

  11. Still buzzing from last night, great atmosphere, great goals. At H/T being 3-0 it was going to be a game changer and so it came to be. However, cap doffed to the Manager and the Players for coming back and getting another couple of goals.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

Totally agree. Have contributed to funds to help opressed Palestinians, taken part in rallies etc but finding a solution way above my pay grade. There is a time and place for protests, flag waving etc but not when it invites punitive action against Celtic but at no cost for those involved.

If I felt so strongly about Celtic Park being “defiled” by the visit of an Israeli team, then I wouldn’t have gone in the first place. If I felt that Celtic should not abide by UEFA rules, ludicrous though they be, I would be campaigning for CFC to refuse to participate in UEFA competitions. IMHO such actions would be the principled positions for the flag wavers to take logically. HH

  13. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

You surely see where the problem lies.

A PLC who condone cheating, trying to tell supporters what to think.

    Its a nonsense.

  14. COWIEBHOY…

I thought the referee had a really good game, he let the game roll and was fare, especially with Broonies hand ball :))

  15. Gents,

We have history in paying fines to EUFA for similar ” offences”

What if the governing body decided that fines are obviously having no effect , and more severe action was necessary.

Would you still think that helps Celtic. .

Waving a flag in support of the Palestinians….is that a crime?

How does it compare with the corruption of a certain Scoddish club?

Where is UEFA’s concern about that?

The whole scenario is driven by ideological hatred.

Tory and right-wing ideology at the heart of it.

Like i said…if you want to keep politics out of football, start with the Tories on the PLC.

    Balance please.

  17. Strangely I find myself posting some praise for a broadcaster…

BT’s coverage last night was phenomenal. The team in the studio were so enthusiastic and provided intelligent comment, they built up some excitement about Celtic’s play and the positives for Scottish football. Love him or loathe him, Lineker was on top form. He may receive more in wages than Scottish football receives in a year from the BBC, but he actually created a positive view of Scottish football, which some leaches up here have failed to do in decades.

The commentary team were excellent and were fair in calling out where Celtic were fortunate to survive two handball claims, but generally they were full of praise. For the neutral the enthusiasm must have created a good impression of Celtic and Scottish football.

Only criticism…big Sutty doesn’t need start every bit of praise for BR with the words “Under Ronny Deila…”. BR’s contribution to the Celtic story will stand on it’s own two feet without the need for a comparator.

Maybe a few of the Tories on the board could answer that one.

The official position of EUFA for their competition is that flying the flag of full member of UN is OK but Palestine not being full member not OK. IMO a ludicrous ruling and there should be campaign to have the rule changed especially as Saltires, Welsh Dragon flags also permitted.

However, bottom line THEIR competition, THEIR rules. If we don’t like it, don’t compete. HH

    ###

Do you have a source for that?

  21. Matts – those who displayed Palestinian flags did what was morally correct.

    There may well be consequences,

But since October of last year Israel has murdered hundreds of Palestinians, demolished hundreds of their homes, continues to support and promote illegal settlements/colonies, criminalises and demonises those who highlight their crimes, blockades gaza, refuses the right of free movement to Palestinians, carries out land grabs, persecutes the Bedouin people…..

So good men and women inside and out at Celtic park waving flags, sending support and solidarity to Palestine – which has done its job if Twitter is anything to go by – aye, I’m proud of them.

  22. Gents,

Celtic do not make the rules. The rules may be ridiculous, but nevertheless its EUFA’s rules..

I just hope breaking them doesn’t undermine Celtic’s progress on the park.

The very fact we are discussing this issue after a great result is , imo a needless distraction of our own making.

    HH.

  23. An Teach Solais on

    ERNIE,

Thanks for response Case Law of a number of adjudications of the EUFA disciplinary code which I saw posted earlier in the blog – most recently impoverished Dundalk FC fined € 17,000. Seems precedents well and truly established. HH

  24. An teach solais – the Palestinian team is affiliated to FIFA – is it not allowed to fly its own flag?

And incidentally the right to a national and personal identity is enshrined in international law. Such a ruling (and I’m not sure there is one) is surely a denial of that right.

  25. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

    Greenpinata

Id suggest UEFA would be better investigation the cheating and corruption in Scottish Football, rather than be A***holes in relation to people showing compassion for other human beings.

I make no apology for showing compassion…..something that the rabid suits on the PLC, dont understand.

At 3 nil up at half time I was thinking sign That Man U player up tomorrow and let the players have a holiday in Israel.

i was against the flag display last night until I saw it then the global reaction. There are always wrongs on both sides of every conflict but weans are being killed at will it’s worth highlighting the issue. Closing a stand or a heavy fine serves as a reminder that life isn’t about the Plc profit or your champions league night out. It’s a small price to pay to save lives.

  27. Thrilled with the football & the atmosphere last night, all the new Bhoys not get Celtic and we can kick on from here. When you list the ghuys missing like Eric, Jozo & Paddy Roberts and when you look at our Colts the future looks bright.

Re The Palestinian Flags demo, I strongly support the Palestinian cause but also strongly felt that the demo should have been confined to outside the stadium. I knew in my heart it wouldn’t and it wasn’t.

Bhoys that I love took a different decision to what I wanted, So be it, they are still my comrades and I still love them.

We now await the repercussions, hopefully our fans going to Israel will be safe & hopefully our team will finish the job there.

UEFA will certainly oppose a sanction, hopefully it’s just a monetary one. When we know what it is, I’m sure we will have a debate but until then, I for one am shelving the issue and will just comment on the football, which I am just loving right now.

    OOFFF OOOT check back later.

  28. 10 goals in 2 games, 5 of them in a CL play-off, and that’s without Patrick Roberts and with a big signing to come (allegedly). This is going to be one helluva season.

  29. Uefa don’t do irony obviously…

Well played Celtic last night, it’s a long time since I had such extremes of emotion in one game…

Ecstasy to despair in one long hoof up the park.

The big difference for me last night is that we played as a team and it’s a team that will get better and better under BR of that I’m confident.

    HH

  30. An teach – reason given for Dundalk fine was that it happened during an active Israeli bombardment of gaza – which killed 2,400 Palestinians with no escape route in gaza, 500 of whom were children.

I know you aren’t condoning UEFA or Israel but it does highlight UEFA hypocrisy. A demonstrably corrupt body acting as world moral police – it beggars belief

  31. I said I wasn’t going to speak about flags again, but I can’t help it – I’m vexed by vexillology…

If you think being punished for waving a Palestinian flag is bad, Barcelona have been fined THREE times for displaying the Estelada! So according to UEFA you can’t express your own identity never mind solidarity with another group of people.

This is Celtic’s second (?) offence related to flags (third if you count the F UEFA banner) so following precendent the punishment should be a fine and not stand closure. However, UEFA really are ridiculous in their cack-handed approach to fairness and “Respect”.

That being said, as others have mentioned it’s their competition, their rules. If you want to live in their house and get pocket money from them, then follow their rules…

  32. GREENPINATA on 18TH AUGUST 2016 8:34 AM

And if UEFA decide to ban the Irish Tricolour on the same grounds* that they used to ban the Palestinian flag, you’d be OK with that?

    * Nothing to do with Palestine not being a member of the UN, that’s a myth that some cling to like a comfort blanket. The reason UEFA give for banning the Palestinian flag is “the conflict in the region is ongoing.” Well there are those who would argue that the conflict in Ireland is still ongoing.
