Well done to Victor and to big Fraser! Special contribution from both of them. Sometimes you have to dig deep, we have shown we can do it in recent weeks. Hearts have only let in seven goals away from home so maybe never going to be easy, and it wasn’t. Just heard Roddy Forsyth on Radio 5 saying the handball was against Scott Brown, didn’t look clear to me. Still three points in the bag!

You can bet that had that been against Rangers it would never have been given.

Lennon not happy with it but stayed cool in his response to questions.

  3. Good 3 pts. Our forwards had a bit of an off day but we still won. Forrest is a young guy and he will have days when he is not at his best. The ref allowed another kickingfest we really need to start sorting the opposition out physically when this happens. This is a weak area for us and is surprising given our management team rep as players. As BJ would say sometimes you need to get the boilersuit on.

  4. Having seen the penalty I honestly cannot say that it is even close to clear cut but it is a reminder of what Celtic must face every time they take the field and especially in a tight match. Make no mistake, Callum (I didnae feel physically threatened so a couple of scumbags can get away with breaching the rules) Murray did what we all knew he wanted to do. He is rated as a good referee in Scotland and that says it all. He should also have sent off their left back for constant fouling of James Forrest.

The Hearts players today were a disgrace to the game of football other than Taoul who tried to play football. Their constant time wasting and back 11 designed to get them a draw backfired and on reflection big Victor Wanyama’s goal was the only way we were going to win that match as we couldn’t get through that back 11.

Well done big Forster, I criticized you heavily when you came back but I am slowly coming round to you. You still look nervous from time to time but you are developing.

  6. Great result today. Tough to grind out the 1-0 against a hearts team determined not to venture out of their own half. But was really great to see Wanyama play the way he did today, a few shaky passes in the first half but once he was at the back he was brilliant. So strong, fully committed, and what a goal! Thankfully got away with the handball to make sure he won the MOTM award.

Was really pleased with Samaras, James Forrest, Cha and Kayal today, hopefully we’re all set to upset Udinese now!

  7. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

I didn’t even know it was a penalty as cqn went down,so damned frustrating but good on Forster, well done big man and well done Samaras, the huns did exactly the same at the midden in asking the ball to be spotted properly, correct me if I’m wrong.

Hooper is more effective as a sub I think, the quicker we get Ledley,Commons,Mathews n Izzy back the better.

  8. So blatantly not hand ball that even the bbc report is changing it……..

“Hearts could have pulled one back following a controversial decision in the final minute when Wanyama was penalised for a challenge inside the area, but Jonsson was thwarted by a fine Forster save from the spot.”

Would love to see the ref report as I suspect it will at this very minute being altered from hand ball to bad challenge.

    Great save Big Man!

I liked the way we harrassed the mib and the penalty taker.

Now who did we learn that from?

No it would never have been given agin them, the 3 officials today were doing their job under instruction, and they were very good as per usual.

The rules can be changed, but the hearts and minds of these cheats will never be changed.

Foreign refs is the answer, but there’s as much chance of that as there is Lenny becoming the king of scotland.

  12. I hope today proves to be a watershed day for those Celtic players in this seasons championship.

All the complacency and lethargy which has haunted us on too many an occasion was gone.

The way the players celebrated at the end, was as if they won a cup final and rightly so. Every game is a cup final from now until the end of the season. I am delighted they now know that.

Now what I would like is a wee bit more skill and guile to go alongside the effort and endeavour.

I think Wanyama at centre back for all home games will improve us massively – there is no need for 2 centre halves who can only defend. Our centre halves get too much of the ball for them to be two men who can do nothing with it ie Loovens.

Big Majstorovic was outstanding today – he had his best game for Celtic last week (and id almost be tempted to say first good game) and he doubled up on it today.

Disappointed with the formations and systems we are employing, its not helping us.

Hearts outball in the 1st half was the gap between Samaras and Mulgrew – where in actual fact a left midfielder would have been standing. Its not good enough for a team as poor as this Hearts team to be able to pick holes in our system mid game.

Wee McGeady got pelters when he had a bad game – after Strachan took over in every single bad game he had, he was a good team mate. He became a workhorse in tracking back, WGS made sure he was. Id like to see this from wee Forrest (or Forrester to John Hughes). He is inconsistent which is understandable – no one should berate him for that, but he needs to mature in the game enough mentally to appreciate why he needs to be a good team mate.

McCourt would have been given pelters for the amount of tracking back either Samaras or Forrest did today.

Overall though Im happy – because I saw a Celtic team that didnt play well at all, but wanted to win the game.

If each man on that pitch gives 100% effort – then the supposed mine shafters such as myself will change their tune fairly quickly.

As I said to Snake at halftime – it was the formations and tactics I felt were working against us, not the players themselves.

  13. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

Going out for a meal now wi ma big sister who is sixty five today.

There will be a “mixed” crowd but mostly Tims.

    C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Joe Filippis Haircut on

I think big Victor is the real deal and the best player on our books by a proverbial mile its a long time since ive seen such quality in a Celtic player mind you he must learn not to jump for a header in our box with his arm as he found today the mib will punish us.H.H.

  15. Missed the game today for the joys of Hamleys and House of Fraser.

Great stuff from the Bhoys, potentially a really significant result.

Watching the pen link, it is a terrible decision, but exactly the kind of deniable “oh, I thought his arm was raised” kind of nonsense that the ref knew he could get away with.

Great to stuff the Skint Jambos. Hopefully this rancid club’s last Christmas on Earth….

  16. glendalystonsils on

Anybody know what the linesman was doing at the penalty? Did he flag? Did the ref even look at the linesman?

Or perhaps brother Murray didn’t want anyone trying to change his mind?

  17. Today I saw the Bhoys grow a PAIR…..

    A pretty wee PAIR….

But a PAIR none the less…

I cannae remember the last time we won such a game at home 1-0, tight game, winner second half…… I suppose Saint Js last year, but since then ?

    Gordie, Rome

  18. The fact that none of the journalists can say for certain what penalty was given for says it all.

    It wasn’t.

Referees know it’s okay to give wrong decision against us as the press will back them.

To err in our favour they will incur their full wrath and days of questioning their competency and integrity.

Murray does not need this as he is a hun with an agenda

  20. Great 3 points, well done Vic anfd Fraser.

Hearts really are a nasty lot, never a penalty.

Will be glad when Ledley,Commons ,Matthews and Izzy are back, would like to see Lenny going 451 attacking play, i feel we play wiyh a man short when Stokes and Hooper play up front.

We played against 14 today of that there is no doubt, it seems like Flemming is hand picking his officials for our games, Murray is a Jambo and his linesmen knew that.

Yup. The best we can do short term is make it as difficult as possible for them to hide behind the rules by making the processes as transparent as possible..

At some point however we need as a club to promote the creation of a customer focussed refereeing service getting the best referees avaiable from wherever we can.

  24. Well, as Bourne and Tony Bananas will probably agree Celtic have their very own grassy knoll moment.

Radio says handball and then the pundit (Liam – who immediately mentioned Jelavic’s name when Victor scored) starts the red card gash.

That’s some handball – bizzarrely took the same trajectory as the intended header of the Hearts player. Victor’s hand and arm – although in the mix are going towards the Jungle (Of old) – the ball goes towards the goal but very very wide.

Victor my congratulations on your ability to defy the laws of physics.

Next time that large hadron goes Pete Tong I’ll bet DBBIA will be sending em your number.
