Remember how TKOK used to take on a keeper by rolling the ball sideways and round? I reckon Stokes was attempting to do the same and was clipped on his right thigh by the defender who was never likely to get the ball. The best view was from behind.

The best view was from behind which funnily enough is where gollum viewed it from.

    Cheat simple.

  2. Nearly home after a couple of pints to dull the pain.

I cant complain we did not put hell in net Killie did.

I will go off my nut why Forrest played full game and WHY Stokes did not shoot in the 94th minute, I will never know!

Congratulation to Kenny Sheils and Kilmarnock F.C.

Celtic created enough chances to win the game twice over yet a combination of good goalkeeping, woeful finishing and debateable refereeing cost us the game. Celtic is a far superior club to Kilmarnock and the players have let the Club, Neil Lennon and the fans down today. Just how must Neil Lennon be feeling after the week he’s had? You’d think on this day of all days the players would have given their all for the manager. Couple of worrying points for me, Wilson seems to cause panic in the defence, for me Mulgrew and Rogne are our best pairing, I’d move Wilson on. Central midfield needs a creative player whether it is Commons, Ki or McCourt, we must make room, either that or play Sammy wide left. Away to like my wounds, just getting fed up with these failures in cups and leagues, I hope Lennon asks his player, just what have you won? You see getting over the line is the most difficult part, we see to have a flaw there and it’s worrying.

  4. The Utter Bafflements were I believe scaled and all their believers burned in the

Sticky hot oil of their victors big heated pot.

    Much like last Ranglers.

    Patrick,

The League will be won regardless and I dont care if its the Huns,St Johnstone or whoever we beat to win it.Its a National trophy and had we won today you would have been on gloryfying our win as part of the Treble.Be honest.Hate this nonsense about losing. We had a massive support there today bitterly disappointed.

  6. harryhoodsdugbitme on

Just back in. Brutal. I was surprised someone didn’t make way for Sammi in the starting 11. Not sure about Kelvin. I’d rather Charlie played along side Thomas and either Izzy or Adam played LB. Ki made a bid difference when he came on…..but we were not so good. btw hampden really is crap. Lets hope there are lessons learned from today. HH..

  7. well what can you say? we didn’t take our chances and we got deservedly punished for it. we didn’t deserve to win because we didn’t score, simply really.

stokes was a pen all day long imo, killie man makes no contact with the ball and takes him out and why would he dive when through 1 on 1, clear pen for me; though with the form bell was in I suspect we might have missed it anyway

brown was the only one who turned up today, rest of the team looked very complacent. and hooper? dreadful, in truth he’s been like that for a few weeks now, think he needs a spell as a sub to show he’s not untouchable

not starting with samaras really surprised me so Lenny isn’t immune from criticism either; still not a result that’ll have me jumping off a bridge, though its never nice losing a cup final

just have to make sure we win the other two! all’s not lost!

  8. Thought Sammi,.. in the dying minutes of the game, was gonna curl that one outside the post with the outside of the right bit….out of reach of the determined Bell….into the inside post,…

One criticism there being Sammi should have replaced Hoops way before he did.

Would the real Gary Hooper pulllease stand up !!

  9. Trebles won fairly (if not…ahemm ‘squarely’) are hard to come by…..

    We can wait.

  10. Uly

I’ve seen that movie before as well

some very poor managerial decisions today

  11. Everyone

I think it was a good game overall

Hate Killieas a club but admire Their manager. He has B**ls to stand up for what is wrong .

    Our day is coming

    Calm down

  12. Stokes was controlling the ball and ready to shoot when fouled from behind. A tackle from behind is penalised with a free kick and as it was in the box its a penalty. No question .

    Celtic and the League Cup…..

This trophy is destined to be one we frequently mess up..

I recall my first memory of this trophy being the historic 4-1 LOSS to Partick Thistle..

Further bizarre losses down the years including Raith Rovers..

We just never have our minds sorted for this..

    Must be our biorhythms ..

I’m philosophical.. Rough with the smooth.. Our glory days are on the horizon.. And let’s be honest.. The demise of the tax dodgers is a daily delight…

The bitterness of the dodgers shone through today in song and commentary..

    We SHALL NOT BE MOVED!!

I dont feel we deserved to win today. The occasion got to the team. Not my team – K Wilsonbut no Sammi, I dont rate Brown or Ki…BUT whatever team we fielded it should have seen off Killie. I didnt feel we really dominated at any point.I thought chances were quite even over the piece but just not our day.

Tells us more about the team than watching them trounce opposition?

  15. As a Celtic fan I can take the loss. What hurts is after 3 weeks of getting their baws toed we give the bares us losing a cup final to cheer them up!

  16. Agent Craig "Green and" Whyte!! on

I’ve always had a feeling that every other club in Scotland treat cup finals as cup finals.

It looks like we treat it as just another game.Is it just the nerves that blinker me?

We dont seem to give that extra wee bit because its a final.

  17. Just home on 1st train in the morning , mm nice fresh bread in bakery

1st thing contests to killie , hope they have a good night, it’s not just about us in Spl , other teams work honestly and deserve something for their hard work

2nd. Is it just me and the entire drunk population in cheers bar Sydney , have we and last 3 mangers been asking our CEO to buy a center half and target man

Kelvin Wilson at forest was awefull( so say forest boards ). He makes the McManus or Caldwell seem world class

Game today showed up limitations in our side we know about

No center half ( wilsons attempt at their goal was pathetic) and we need a 30 goal striker

Hooper was an invisible man again

At least stokes is seen now and again when he does not score

    Hopper!!! Mmm

Not lennys fault , has asked and asked and asked CEO for a center half but been ignored

He has no chance of a striker

I don’t tend to comment on

Hun demise as we don’t have control if it

But I reserve right to comment on a farcical situation where we wait 6 years for Center half

    ”I dont rate Brown”

Then you must be an idiot.

I used to be an idiot, but I’m not any more.

Brown was far and away our best player today.

  20. How can it take an hour and thirty minutes to get from Greater Rutherglen to Inner Rutherglen by car?

Kilmarnock’s name was clearly on the Cup, and with hindsight Gary Hooper’s miss in the first minutes, just about sealed our fate, the game itself panned out very differently to our last Cup Final

where the difference was Ki Seung scored to put us ahead in the first half.

Celtic were on a hiding to nothing today big team v wee team, the Rangers fiasco, as a backdrop

and understandable reluctance to change front players, that said there were a few Celtic players today, who played very poorly and let Neil Lennon and the support down.

Insistence on playing men that are off form helped cost us a cup, and introducing Kelvin Wilson who was unconvincing throughout, was as baffling, why Neil Lennon starts Wanyama in midfield then switches him to centre back. It’ll also be posted ad nauseum, but dropping Samaras was another mystery, wrapped in an enigma.

I won’t go looking for the highlights but Victor Wanyama’s chastising of Tony Stokes for the controversy at the end, mirrors my own thoughts on why Stokes hadn’t got his shot away, to score or not whatever the case may have been.

Sadly this was an identical to something I’ve seen Stokes do before at Celtic Park – he didn’t get the penalty then either, and even it had been stonewall Tony should know, Collum wasn’t going to give it anyway.

Neil Lennon really does want to rest James Forrest, and its time to let Hooper and Stokes get there hunger and sharpness back whilst on the bench, which leads me to Samaras up front on his own at Ibrokes.

Nice meeting CQN’s finest at the Gazebo pity about an unfitting end, – onwards to the double.

p.s. If you are on a downer imagine as Celtic fan’s sitting tonight whose only consolation was that Rangers couldn’t win the treble, – there are always people worse off.

Raging bhoys if you two fall out for personal reasons.

Congratulations to Kilmarnock for their win,

It would have been a sporting travesty if they had lost after that exceptional display from their goalkeeper Gavin Bell.

    Credit where it’s due.

  24. Congratulations Killie, they beat us in Glasgow at last.

As so many are saying tonight it is good for the game that other teams have their Hampden in the Sun. Paul said in his forecast yesterday, Kilmarnock have done us all a favour by beating Rangers twice this season and that victory at Ibrox when Rangers were trying to rally their storm troopers was a Killie killer blow!!. A winning team can cover up a multitude of sins, look at Barça and Madrid in Spain, who owe the taxman a fortune, but success on the park in front of other multitudes of people keep you immune from prosecution.

For the good of Scottish football Rangers´ loss of shape, or should I say fabric, has coincided with some plucky performances from other cash-strapped Scottish clubs. If I am ever asked the question will Scottish football survive without Rangers, I say “Survive?, It will Strive.”

Martin O´Neill´s trebles are of course part of Celtic folklore and it would have been great to win three trophies with one already in the bag. Nevertheless my feeling is that the term Treble is a tacky mid seventies Rangers invention. The term double had become famous in England through Tottenham in ´61 and Arsenal in ´71. Between those years, in 1967 precisely, Celtic won the FOUR main trophies and exhausted all the superlatives. We are still waiting for recognition but as the song goes, what the hell do we care?

Alex Ferguson´s treble of 1999 was the nearest English football had got.

Josep Guardiola has now led Barcelona to FIVE main trophies, League, Cup, Champions, Supercopa, and World club Championship.

    Game on Celtic!

  25. We really have a shocking record in the League Cup finals that we reach

    The huns do far better

Before the game I noticed on KDS that Lenny was replying to people on twitter – perhaps not the best preparation for the game

Almost right from the start it looked as though too many thought that all they had to do was turn and they would win – did this attitude stem from the manager’s fascination with new media?

Too many players seem to lack a real big game mentality

Stokes yet again proved that he is our answer to Kris Boyd – scores for fun but disappears when its crunch time

When you play 2 up front – they have to work the defence far more to help the 4 who are outnumbered in midfield

Hooper and Stokes just don’t do enough at times

When the pass and move doesn’t get early results we have no real plan B

Taking VW weakened us in midfield and should have been accompanied by gettin GS on to use his running power from midfield

All credit to Shiels and Killie

Guys on a fraction of our players yet had better tactics- better attitude and didn’t resort to kicking us

The team and staff really let the support down badly today

We will find out more about their character by the way they respond

We need a big big performance next week at the hundome

  26. The Battered Bunnet on

I’m sure my comments will be lost in the rush to post, but I’m rushing to post myself so who am I to complain?

First up, Kenny Shiels: What a terrific achievement for a Good Guy. If Celtic weren’t the opposition today I’d be delighted.

Next, Kelvin Wilson: Lenny bought him. Lenny chose him today. I’ve yet to see why. Offers little in possession, is prone in defence, and transparently at fault for the goal today.

Following upon, the Team: Guys, winning isn’t a mater of just turning up. It’s not a matter of luck. It is a mentality. Winners win. You lost because you decided not to win.

And…Team Selection: Didn’t work. It was cautious, unimaginative, drole. Forrest was the only threat from midfied, and he had a poor game. The others just did what they generally do, which is in the main solid, ball retaining, drollery.

And then, Penalty/Not Penalty: Stokes was in the position to strike. There was a minute of added time left. He was 8 yards from the goal. He chose not to miss. Victor Wanyama was ready to wallop Stokes. Wanyama’s reaction is more telling than the referee’s decision.

And finally…: This was the youngster’s first Cup Final. I know, and you know, there will be many more to come for him. He doesn’t. And tomorrow he goes to school to search out the company of the 3 other kids in his year who are not Rangers fans. Today was the best day of Rangers’ season, and that is how far they’ve fallen, but I can tell Young Bunnet doesn’t appreciate the significance of that. Bad enough that your team doesn’t turn up. Poor fellow has to look forward to the reaction of the dispossed.

    Hey ho.

    TBB

  27. Performances today, not many passmarks and once again strange tactics. Too many square passes and static players.

Watched Swansea last night and what a contrast, pass and move, pass and move. We tend to be so slow and let the opposition regroup while we phaff around.

If Brozek is a goal scorer why don’t we play him? Hooper been poor for a good while now.

  30. Congratulations to Kilmarnock. Well deserved win.

We had too many players not performing. Dropping Sammi to play Wilson was just plain wrong.

Stokes, Hooper, Forrest all very poor. Midfield battle lost. Wilson never a Celtic player in Scotland. (He wants to play the ball only, avoids physical contact).

In real time I thought it was a penalty but when I saw Big Vic giving Stokes a slap I realised that Vic knew what had gone down and wanted to skelp Stokes for going down rather than shooting.

Hoops and Joe missed sitters, keeper made some good saves but quality finishing would have had us up by 3 or 4.

Overall a very disappointing day, but we have lots of good ones on the way.
