  1. Is anyone craving the return from injury of Biton or Johansen?

    Me neither.

It’s also obvious from the rumours of attempts to sign a CB that Charlie Mulgrew is off down south to the Championship.

Champions League nights with a full house at CP or a chilly night in Sheffield?

    I know which I’d prefer.

    More sound thoughtful stuff.

I hope you don`t become discouraged by the petty sniping.

And I`m not referring to anything in the last few hours.

  4. just reading back. thought brown had a great game, the ground he covers in a game surpasses anyone else. and those lobs into the penalty area were brill.still early but what i seen tonight augers well for the rest of of the season. dont forget there will be players coming in.

  5. I was delighted when we signed Scott Brown

I was disappointed by his first two years

I was so impressed by his next three

Was shocked at is injury troubles last year

    I am a SB fan

    But….

I just cant see him as a Steven Gerrard type spraying passes around!

  6. Good mornign friends from a cloudy but dry and bright East Kilbride.

Very pleased with last night’s performance, particularly with the way we started the game. The atmosphere in the ole safe standing section was fantastic. Knackered this morning, mind you ;-)

Not one bit. Thought mcg was a million miles better than biton. I know it was against semi pros but It felt like we have quality in the squad last night and I haven’t had that feeling for a long while.

  8. Just about to post that I beat Jobo Balde with weather report from a dry and warm ML5, but it wasn’t to be! Relieved with solid victory last night, though shoogly in places.

  9. Bigshuggy, aye but at least yours didn’t have a spelling mistake, as mine invariably do ;-)

  10. Was delighted with the first 35 minutes but you could see the tempo drop markedly after the 3rd goal.

It’s a worry how few 90 minutes the players have in the tank, just hope it’s not a factor next week.

Also doubt any new signings would be at a level to make an impact in Astana games, maybe more the next tie.

Impossible to be at our best so early in season.

  11. murky an’ muggy on The Rebel Frontline this mornin’…………….

Delighted for BIG Brendan an’ The Bhoys last night – we looked like the Celtic….esp in first half.

Credit to our impudent visitors as well – they did well.

The next jump is a big one, play with the right attitude and the flair will shine thru………………………………

Relieved we’re through. Appreciate the updates on here. Can’t wait to get to CP to see the new Jobo Balde Stand in full poetry in motion!

  14. I thought last night’s performance was fine. Just fine.

Embarrassed by the aggregate scoreline? Why? No one will remember the scoreline in a few weeks time. Hell, the SMSM can’t even remember that the deid team are deid.

    Defeatist nonsense.

We have downsized in every area — including support expectations — apart from CEO bonus over the past 10 years.

It might be good enough for you but it is not good enough for me.

Look at the issue of T/O where are now operating more than 30% below our peak.

That is just not good enough and things need to change.

We were once a buying club — that is investing real money in the squad over and above any profits we make in player sales.

Now we are a selling club needing to take money out of player transactions to balance the books of the day to day running costs — that is shameful.

We have been conditioned to accept failure.

We have been diminishing as a football club — this is why this season is so important.

Hopefully DD will have learned his lesson and now agrees with the need for a growth agenda.

If we are now faced with the same on field performance coached by a bigger name then it is a trick that will not be repeated.

The support has put money on the table.

Now it is the turn of the board to do likewise.

The current squad has enough talent just a case it is spread over too many players with gaps in important positions.

Happy to run with a 23/25 man squad if we get quality in.

If we run with a bare bones squad then we need a properly structured and resourced U20 / Dev squad with a full range of players who can step up without causing panic in the team and the support — almost as big a job as the first team squad.

    Consequently lots to do.

Starting with putting Astana into the EU League.

A defeat would be shaming for the club and squad.

  19. Overall reaction here is on the button. Happy & relieved to progress but cautious about what lies ahead. The Red Imps were about a mid to lower SPL standard and we have had trouble breaking down teams of that standard in the past.

After first leg I called for calm and we need to stay calm ahead of the Astana games. Brendan got it right last night we need to trust him to do the same against Astana.

I’m oofff ooottt be good Bhoys.

  20. I’ve returned from my YouTube scouting trip with an analysis from the Astana – Zalgiris match:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM7SWVCtLAk

    Observations:

    1) Both Astana goals scored by a CB (check the ridiculous bounce on at the first goal)

    2) Their keeper was suspect at the Zalgiris goal

    3) Did the winning goal go in off a hand??

What does all this tell us? Hee-haw.

    Job done last night.

The number of chances we created was a positive, but lack of clinical finishing/ completion ratio iis an ongoing concern.

Then we had to endure the second half …

Right now we look like a bunch of individuals who just met for the first time.

Brendan has an almighty challenge ahead to mould the squad, and anyone he brings in, into an effective team.

    Early days yet!

  24. Morning all.

Well it’s another trip to Kazakhstan then.

Six hour direct flight from Glesga to Astana, a distance of 3000 miles and a 5 hour time difference.

    Bloody marvellous!

The Kazakh Football Federation has been a member of UEFA since 2002, having previously been a member of the Asian Football Confederation.

The country is located in Central Asia and has an eastern border with China ffs! It’s an ASIAN country geographically and should not be a member of UEFA in my opinion.

Nothing against the country or its people I hasten to add!

    Rant over!

I don’t fancy our chances defending that last cross … Especially from that side.

Pitch looked better than Gibralter … But not much. As you say the bounce was scary.

Great spike for the winner ;-)
