  1. Talking about “Big European clubs”.I hope UEFA were looking at the attendances throughout Europe last night. We probably had nearly as many as the rest put together at our match.Nearly.Incredible attendance, but probably ignored by the money men at UEFA.Hardly a mention by our SMSM.Can you imagine if that had been the huns?.

  2. Pleased with last nights performance, as I posted yesterday, 352 or 442 would be my line up preferably the former, and it worked, match up the numbers and the cream would rise to the top, win the battle, then the war, IMO those will be BR line ups, 433 is a dream line up but the way teams line up now a days 451 it’s just going against percentages to play 3 in the middle no matter how good the players you have, you set up a team to entertain with 3 in the middle is playing right into the less talented teams hands, it’s happening to often now the underdog is not there to entertain, it’s there to spoil the game as we see it in almost 90% of our games in our own league, so onwards and upwards to the next round, I’m confident for the next round and have no complaints, but I still see the level 5s little helpers hard at work, truth be known? You can please some of the people……..I’m sure you all know how that one goes.

Level 5s little helpers and lurking Huns were through to the next round Soooo GIRFUYs

Going with 3 at the back last night was an unexpected departure from the norm which worked.

Poor Efe wasn’t even on the bench though. To whom was Brendan sending the message: Efe, or PL?

THE GREEN MAN. The fact that we do not appear to have any offers on the table for any of our players should tell us that others dont think the quality of player we have is all that good. H.H.

We could have over 100K watching our games, it wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference, it’s all about the TV audience and scotland disny have one.

We need a clear out, and a better standard of player.

Sadly true, but we did not get our reputation on CL nights for nothing.

I think 50,000 season ticket holders might be expecting new signings…naturally.

Who are you to oppose that ?

  10. The Green Man,

when teams like Stoke and Bournemouth can pay upwards of £13million for players and god knows how much in wages we are always going to struggle, we need a better scouting system and to look at new markets for signings , and I don’t mean projects

Bear in mind that as a Season Ticket game, non-attenders will also have been counted. It did look pretty busy though. Probably closer to 40-45k actual bodies.

From where I was sitting apart from the away fans area there were some gaps where in the upper LL stand and in the corner between the Main Stand and the JS. Other than that the ground looked pretty well full, I’d have estimated 50k plus maybe 52k? The safe standing area looks awesome by the way, I think we will be the envy of a lot of clubs even down south. Even at my advanced age :) I was quite jealous of the bhoys in that section.

  12. Simply looking at the Astana European results, as you can imagine from a team from Kazakhstan, very decent home record.

As posted early, some credible results in the Champions League group stage, drew all three home games and picked up a point away to Galatasaray, losing away to both Atletico Madrid and Benfica. In reality, not much use in focussing on these results in much detail.

In qualifying rounds last year, they won all three home games; 3-1 against Maribor, 4-3 HJK Helsinki and 1-0 against APOEL. They lost 0-1 in Maribor, another goal against would have eliminated them on away goals and against Helsinki they drew 0-0 away, again another goal against would have seen them eliminated on away goals. Rather more impressively, against APOEL, after keeping a clean sheet and winning one nil at home, they got the away goal in a 1-1 draw in Cyprus and made it through quite comfortably to the group stage.

In the Europa League qualifying the year before, they beat Pyunik (Armenia) home and away 6-1 on aggregate, against Hapoel Tel Aviv they did the business at home winning 3-0, losing one nil in Israel in the second leg. In the third qualifying round, AIK would have been very content with a 1-1 draw in Kazakhstan but Astana romped to a 3-0 win in Stockholm, along with the win away against the Armenians, this is only their 2nd away win in Europe and the last time they won away. They succumbed to Villarreal in the playoff 7-0 on aggregate, losing 3-0 at home, which was the last time they lost at home.

In general, they appear to be a team that take advantage of their home form and then keep it tight away from home, narrow loses and draws have seen them through. They also appear pretty successful at getting through qualifying rounds, only losing out to Villarreal in the past two years.

I expect a very tough game over there and a stubborn opponent at Celtic Park. A good result in Kazakhstan and we should be confident. I would class a one goal deficit defeat with an away goal as just about enough, anything better than this we should be in good shape.

Europe is full of players within our range, there are countless freebies to be had, even more with a few months on their contracts yet we are looking in england ffs.

The likes of Virgil signed cos he knew that if he did well he would get a dream move to untold riches, this is a massive selling point for us and it’s seems that it’s not being exploited to the max.

THE GREEN MAN.My hands are bound up like an Egyptian mummy it will take six weeks so the hospital say its murder lol.The big problem with getting the squad size down is you need other teams to want our players and currently they are not in demand. H.H.

    Spot on…..i agree.

However, many teams seem to manage to sign players.

I’d expect us to do the same

  17. TBB

BR has proved he’s more flexible, and he knew he could chance three at the back after

the first leg, despite all the baloney the result caused.

His next trick is a CB brought in by tonight and embedded in the side for Astana away, he wouldn’t play three at the back over there?

  18. 50 shades of green on

I thought playing Izzy one left of three midfield was Brendan sending a message to the suits last night.

    BSR

That’s my view too. Bedding in a new CB partnership with just a friendly v Leicester and some limited training time is a fair old trick though. And that’s assuming he can find a new CB today…

I agree about the English market.I think the problem is BR has had no time to look at anyone else,in the time with us.Hopefully that is a good thing, not depending on our scouts. He seems to want in a couple of players he knows and trusts,to get him through this period.Only time will tell, but we must get away from the madness in England.

  21. TeT,

I agree there are plenty players available on Europe, you tell us about a few, the issue at the minute is more likely to be getting rid of our deadwood to make way for new signings

  22. The EPL and The Championship sides are playing with monopoly money. Transfer fees are outrageous and who knows what the salaries would do to our player’s remuneration policy?

Wasn’t there rumours of senior players being ‘concerned’ at Paddy Robert’s salary given our contribution and Man City’s ‘share’?

Scott Sinclair is likely to be a player that BR wants. I remember the hat trick he scored for Swansea in the play off against Reading.

Can we afford him? Who knows?

We are a ‘self sustaining football model’ and are obviously playing in a league structure that does not attract anything like the money across the border.

Coupled with that we play be the rules, pay our bills and adhere to odd notions like Financial Fair Play.

BR will make the squad better. Players will move on that will take a bit of time.

On another note, fair play to the Lilywhites in Dundalk.

Does anyone know who plays centre half for Dundalk?..or Centre Half for any side involved in CL games last night?

  23. Only saw the second half yesterday as I was playing for my own ‘Celtic’ team.

Seemed comfortable and could easily have scored another 3 in the time I watched.

    Need signings in NOW though.

    No more messing about

  26. Thats why I mentionedKolo Toure earlier.I think he would have the savvy with all his experience,to slot in to our defence.

We will know today. If its left any later I cant see him featuring against Astana,if we get anyone.

  27. If we get a couple of players before tonight’s deadline? All is well, if we don’t? We go with what we have, it’s basically as simple as that, pointless moaning and slagging people before anything happens, you’d think BR and CFC where doing this purposely going by some posts in here, ffs catch yourself’s, get a brown paper bag and inhale into it ffs, IMO.

  28. Anyone else of the opinion that Patrick Roberts is a right wee Tim.have seen pictures of him as a kid with the Hoops on,and does the old blessing coming onto the field.Only on loan, but seems really committed. He really seems to “Get us”

  29. BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 21ST JULY 2016 11:25 AM

Unless A .N . Other is signed today he can’t play in Astana.

Wild card can be signed day before the game.
