Much appreciated. Thank you. Eddie and I getting digs in Stranraer and making a weekend of it with our Irish Brigade.

  2. I actually thought the bar was lower, much, much, lower. so low in fact, on paper the only competition we actually have is our own competence.

That is the way I see it and I think we are doing a great job of taking competence to the wire with incompetence.

But then we all have unique eyes, and opinions, and opinions, and agendas, and hopes and faiths and miseries….

    BCW,

I have long, without response, questioned aspects of the Derk and other signings.

  4. I think the best thing we could do in the short term is start playing football again, not necessarily the Glasgow Celtic way, but it would be nice if we pretended to play football the Glasgow Celtic way. After that, then we could sit and have a Parkhead Bovril and pie and thrown our coppers to the guy who serves us so the next ime its his/her shift, they at least have the bus fare to turn up.

So much misery and who bought it down on us… the hun?

    Naw!!!

Inherent and abhorent greed from within did. Greed from within. Celtic fans eating Celtic Supporters.

The Celtic Ethos as it stands today is history. I hope you all remember your history bhoys, because the present has wiped out our soul.

  5. Somme have opined here that on the appointment of Ronny, PL overruled DD.

If so, truly a case of the tail wagging the dog.

  6. I dont think Ronnie would survive a defeat a defeat at Tynecastle next week as the roar to get rid of him would be deafening.

  7. Gotten laugh Auldheid. Now you are saying we should encourage and not criticise.

    Encourage what exactly? More failure.

It’s almost as if you believe that our turgid performances and downward spiral us the supporters fault.

Anything but blame the people who are presiding over this mess eh.

  8. Dunno what the remit for a Celtic manger is.

the lazy line of “the jobs too big for him” doesn’t bare scrutiny.

He is imperious domestically and his Euro record to date is on a par with Neil Lennon at the same stage of development. He was a dodgy decision away from becoming only the third in our history of landing a treble.

The brand of football he plays is breathtaking when it clicks and some of the performances last year were a joy to watch. By contrast some of the performances under WGS were dire compared to this. How quickly we forget Samaras and Vennegoor of Hesselink went 25 games between them without a goal. Can you imagine the outcry if that was Cifci and Cole?

He has had key injuries to the captain , Charlie Mulgrew and now Leigh Griffiths. But still the knives are out

Its a high risk strategy firing the Manager , especially a dounle winning Manager currently sitting top of the league.

  9. The present manager was lined up as a replacement for Neil Lennon’s assistant Johan Mjallby . What a way to treat Mjallby and Lennon. Neil Lennon walked because he was stabbed in the back. After the bullets and the bombs and his home and family threats, his own stabbed him in the back.

    His own.

  10. CultsBhoy can not relate to Celtic Board ambitions on or off the park on

    Quonno

It’s well documented on her that I am Not a fan of Lawwell. However if I’m being honest I like many on CQN I was happy to go with the Deila appointment and take a chance. Lawwell’s record on Managers is actually not bad. Assuming he’s had a role in O’Neil, Strachan and Lenny.

DD clearly trusts Lawwell so why not be over ruled on Deila appointment?

The issue now is cutting losses. We took a punt it hasn’t worked out. We have more than enough evidence that the punt isn’t working. So I’m happy if DD comes in and directs some change.

For me that is a new manager and a new strategy and some reallocation of responsibilities. A manager who directs player movement. Lawwell focussing on what he’s good at. Park serving recruitment not dictating it.

I suspect an upshot of this would be Lawwell moving on in due course as his ego would not sustain any diminishion of influence. He’d be very sought after.

  11. ulysses mcghee - a demographic of one on

I don’t listen to/read/or second hand leech any info from the media. I remain blissfully unaware of their agenda.

My big fear is that anyone could get the level of performance we’re getting from the team right now. I am constantly made aware that certain players are ‘blowing out their a**e’ by 65 mins…

I feel we have a great crop of ‘Scottish potential’ (Regardless of net worth) that we don’t seem to be getting the best from. Poorly utilised.

Celtic park ain’t a fortress no more. The pressing game which (reminiscent of the early MON years) I fully expected to see from ‘Faster, fitter, stronger’ hasn’t appeared and isn’t showing any signs of getting here soon. Replaced by hesitant across the back four passing as opponents get comfortably ‘set’.

As someone from on here posted on Twitter yesterday – putting on a target man and taking off a winger is plain daft.

There’s faults in our strategy and tactics. There’s a complete lack of leadership and ownership within the team – and that is personified in our response to going a goal down.

I fully expected us to be buried under the weight of succession planning for a very successful team. We are anything but that. If what we are seeing is part of the long term plan, then it’s the wrong plan, being expedited by the wrong people.

I, sadly, have to return to my initial reactions to Ronny. I’m not seeing it – although I have friends who think the opposite. But he’s not for me.

    I beseech change.

  12. These are difficult days for our club. We are isolated in a small league with no real competition and no real tv money. The original idea to follow the “Moneyball” route was correct but several years down the line we need to reassess where we are and where we want to go. The idea was that signing projects would work in the sense that we would qualify for the CL and the money that brings. This would then allow the signing of new projects that would be as good as if not better than the original projects. As we now know that has not worked- we do not qualify for the CL and players are sold to balance the books, while their replacements are inferior to the ones sold on.

PL is de facto Director of Football and his choice of manager/coach has been questionable to say the least. NFL should not have been given the job because he lacked the requisite experience. However he made a reasonable fist of it given all the other garbage he had to put up with off the park. RD certainly should never have been given the job but was PL’s choice. He might be a reasonable coach but he is never a manager and that is what we need right now.

The cheap option will be to continue in the hope that RD turns things around – so that it probably what will happen. We will make one or two loan signings in January and if RD wins a couple of trophies he will get another shot at the CL. He will fail and we will start looking for a new guy then!

In the meantime supporter will continue to drift away as they see a lack of ambition and commitment from the board.

An even bigger threat lies in the club’s attitude to Res 12 and the scandal of the SFA. Should the club not back the support over this then they will lose people for good. Appoint a decent manager and have a real team on the park will attract people back. Accept or support cheating and supporter will turn their backs never to return!

  13. The Battered Bunnet on

I can’t say Ronny’s Celtic team play turgid football. In pretty much every game there are a number of very good football moves, yesterday no exception, where the ball is moved quickly up the pitch with 3 or 4 changes of direction creating a chance.

We had (apparently) 28 attempts at goal yesterday, not exactly the hallmark of a ‘turgid’ team.

I reckon though that Gordon Strachan would make a more robust team out of the current group of players.

I also reckon that he couldn’t make the Cole-Ciftci combo into a forward line.

Good post by EC67 btw. Scroll back if you’ve missed it.

  14. The Battered Bunnet on

Apparently Watford are pumping Liverpool 3-0, more evidence for those who reckon that Ronny may be the Karaoke Klopp.

  15. I hope all these underdog less glamorous to the media teams sustain their challenge in the EPL, some of these managers Ferguson Wenger Mourinho Klopp Van Gaal are lauded as if they are professors of neuro science and have discovered new cures for some previous incurable condition, they are football managers and only that, a simple game that requires good players , well trained and fit, who buy into the methods and goals of the team.

It would be great to get back to that starting with our own club

  16. Auldheid,

I was not going to post any more on this blog, but I have to respond to your post. You have a lot of earned respect on this site but that post is, frankly, arrogant. Amongst the points that you make, you seem to deride those that only post to support their belief system(which is presumably different from your own). Well, is that not what you are doing….posting to support your views? I hope you can see the arrogance in what you posted. Let us disagree, politely, with one another, but let us respect the right of all to post their (divergent) views.

On the footballing issues, I think many are falling out with RD, not because of a single defeat to a lesser club, but because it is the same story repeated time and again. Motherwell, Malmo, Molde, Ajax(at parkhead)…..all played the rope a dope strategy that consistently produces a result against this manager. In short, there is no learning.

As for your point about objectives, who was it that said, if you aim for the mediocre, you are likely to achieve it?

    Presented with respect, sir,

  17. Is it true that Celtic’s resources are 6 (six) times the combined resources of all the other teams in our league?

    Is that really true?

Aiden Bhoy on 20th December 2015 2:01 pm Watford beating Liverpool 2-0 . Playing with 2 up front it’ll never catch on.

    ——–

And Liverpool beat Man City with no strikers…..

  19. The Battered Bunnet on 20th December 2015 3:19 pm

In terms of domestic statistics this celtic team compares very favourably with almost every celtic team since 2000. We score goals plenty of goals.

Group think is a dangerous thing, and if you look at other websites the narrative is that we’re worse than turgid. Its very difficult to change that mindset once its taken hold.

Fortunately we have people in charge who are a little bit more sensible than that

  20. Before anyone jumps down my throat I’m not suggesting the team on the park is as good as any that we had in the first half of the noughties

  21. Just reading a twitter debate lnvolving Auldheid, Barcabhoy & a few others implying Celtic’s silence on years of cheating & corruption is down to being intimidated. Basically Celtic are afraid to go public on DM’s years of cheating & the SFA’s complicity. As a few lunatics may threaten violence on our staff?

I’ve heard a few excuses over the years but this one has to be the weakest.

Nutters exist in all walks of life, it’s a dangerous world out there but this doesn’t stop us from leaving the house & living our lives. Why are we pandering to a minority of unhinged morons? Living in fear is not an option, personally, I find this excuse unbelievable, surely it has no basis in truth?

  22. Ellboy

That’s just the bs excuse trotted out, when Celtic fans are in revolt.

We are supposed to accept the cheating, and look the other way.

Well….im afraid that ship has sailed….there will be no ‘moving on’.

Its is not acceptable to ignore the blatant cheating…..and bs, wont change the facts.

Mate I have been going to games since 1963, without malice, nor agenda but with buckets of sadness and dwindling hope for hope, I have never in my life ever watched a more dysfunctional Celtic football team.

In my eyes our club is dissolving.

  24. Mr Fred Quimby,

And who would be our messiah that would instantly guarantee CL success.?

Still awaiting your answer, but no rush, will look in later. In your own time.

  25. THE GREEN MAN

“That’s just the bs excuse trotted out, when Celtic fans are in revolt.”

The club is playing a very dangerous game, if they think we’re going to look the other way. 000’s will turn their backs for good & a half empty stadium will become the norm. We have many issues out on the park & with management but these issues will pale into insignificance, if Celtic fail to find their voice.
