The words ‘Today we dare to win’ which accompanied the banner are often attributed to Bernadette Devlin, the nationalist politician of the era. In fact, they come from an older quote by Black Panther activist, Fred Hampton. Hampton, who was killed by the Chicago Police in hugely disputed circumstances in 1969, said of the struggle for civil rights for African-Americans.
‘If you dare to struggle, you dare to win. If you do not dare to struggle then damn it, you don’t deserve to win.’

Celtic fans this is worth a listen. Ange Postecoglou has made such a huge impact at the club and this is Ange giving his insight on all things Celtic and his journey so far in this podcast🍀👇👇
Recent Red Lines interview with Bernadette McAliskey, where she talks about Civil Rights, Derry, slapping the SoS (she hadn’t planned to until the last moment), assasination attempt on her and other stuff (like QUB kicking her off the course).
Great listen and Mark Carruthers is a terrific journo. Bernadette an absolute force of nature and still compelling listening still.
A season ticket holder, but never go to games with that lot. But I did do a leap of joy and a run round the sitting room when the third goal went in. Delighted like every Tim at the manner in which we demolished them yesterday.
Spoke to a lhad this morning at church and asked him about the game. He told me he had been going around all last week telling all he met that the score would be 4-0. In fact, he added Celtic are only to win by 4-0 in future because if they score 9 again more Managers will find themselves out of work. Must say there a few I would like to see go that way.
Lhads, enjoy the good days. Having lived through the Lisbon Lions, I am glad our younger support are living through great Celtic times again.
“As far as momentary lapses of reasons go, what was the verdict on Hart’s pass to Arfield in the 2nd half? He got away with it because Arfiled ran into the box but it looked to me like it was going straight to him regardless.”
——————————–
I haven’t checked it back on video but my impression was that Arfield was well inside our box. Joe chose to pass it quickly to a Celtic defender just outside the box. No way was Arfield going to do what Turnbull did and get out of the box in time to make a legitimate intervention. Arfield stopped the ball well before it was reaching the edge of the area. Joe was angry with him because he felt he should have known the rules.
Anyway, that is my recollection of it- I will try to look again and double check later

Aye .. £7m …. and Liverpool get 33% of any future transfer
Although that might not be too much if interested teams actually look at his “numbers”
Celtic were very good yesterday, the quickness of thought and action, the movement and the interplay was at times a joy, the players worked so hard for each other. It was a very good display.
However in true scottish style the media spin negative after negative about sevco’s failings. Football is a game of brilliance and mistakes in equal measure. You can’t have one without the other. Most other countries focus on the brilliance then the mistakes.
Scottish football should be bigging itself up at every opportunity, regardless of the outcome of any one game of football. The positive should be front and centre.
Will we win the league? I don’t know, I hope so, but what I do know is that was a very good preformance that many in the media want to spin in a negative light.
Their goalie done well to get his hand to abada’s first goal, it was a great run by the wee man across the fullback.
jota’s goal have everything most folk love to watch, class from start to finish.
Abada’s second is a thing of beauty, their full back steps in to make sure abade does not get a run on him I.e., first goal, so abade steps in and drops out to create the space and fires it low and true towards goal, first time at that pace. it’s unlikely many keepers stop it.
The 4th goal came from celtic pressing and the goalie making an arse of it.
Sevco had a game plan that involved getting into good positions wide and crossing the ball into the box and they done that in at least 10 occasions. Celtic defenders defended better than their forwards attacked the ball.

One of the constant narratives last season and this is that somehow GVB is a master tactician in Europe but too defensive in the league. We, on the other hand, play the same way regardless and get found out in Europe when better teams slice us open on the counter. That may have been true in the BR and Lennon years but it’s unfair to judge Ange and the current team on the evidence of last season.
Ange was only in the door when we were playing in the Europa League and the rebuild only starting. We are miles ahead of where we were this time last year. The defence has tightened up and mid to front is improving all the time. I am quietly optimistic that we’ll get 6-9 points in the CL and finish no worse than 3rd. I will still think that whether we win, lose or draw on Tuesday.
Madrid could give us a bloody nose, but we are capable of giving them a fright too.
Just hope it is not a night of glorious failure where we are undone by a moment of madness. If Madrid come and win on merit, fair enough. They beat PSG, Chelsea, Man CIty and Liverpool to win the CL last season. Doubt any club has had such a tough set of fixtures in the last 16 as that.

Madrid at home is a great start. A free hit for a top place not even our most rose-tinted think we should be after. A night for our young stars to test their devleopment against the very best, who will be cute, technically excellent but won’t appreciate the all-action, in your face style we should bring to the game to upset their flow.
It’s come at us quick after yesterday which I think is another plus – the team will be buzzing and no long wait for their arrival. Only downside is wee Kyogo’s injury which I hope he’s recovered in time for.
Keen to see what Ange tweaks (their forwards are frightening) to protect but no great change in what we will do going forward.

lets all do the huddle on
turnbull didnt need to be outside the box for his goal because the ball was already in play before the keeper kicked it because it was the defender who took the bye kick and passed it to the keeper so it is play from the moment the keeper controls the ball from his defenders pass
Problem with Ange getting us to play so well is that ‘hope’ now starts to kick in that just maybe we are on the verge of a step change in our fortunes in the wider European front.
My rule of thumb for as long as I can remember is that we have been likely to concede 3 or 4 against the very top teams …. Still on Tuesday …. Spanish and Portuguese sides don’t have a good record in Glasgow and if we can bag the first goal , I’ve now convinced myself that we’ll get a quick second ….
Back to yesterday , Goldson hack at Maeda was an embarrassment for a professional footballer , at the speed the wee fella was going and the hack above the knee anything could have happened…. Red card and as clear as day penalty on young Liel ….
There is hope that my dream of tanking the Hun 10-0 is possible…. I’m now learning to embrace hope
The Ali thing was interesting. I think that goes back to when she was on a speaking tour of Irish expat communities in the US and at one event refused to take to the stage until the organisers allowed black people into the hall.
She was vociferous in pointing out that the injustices she was fighting at home were the same as those as black Americans faced every day. Didn’t go down well with her hosts.
On that tour she was awarded the freedom of New York by the mayor. On returning home it was agreed with her comrades in PD that it was wrong to accept that freedom whilst black Americans were still struggling for their rights. So the next one to do a speaking tour, Eamonn Mccann, when he arrived in New York presented the award to the Black Panthers, which gesture resulted in every one of his speaking engagements being cancelled.
