Chance for champions to extend lead over St Mirren

191

Two weeks ago, Motherwell were neck-and-neck with Celtic at the top of the table.  A home defeat to St Mirren and another reversal at Ibrox has seen them slip to fourth in the table, but the devil is in the detail.

The Lanarkshire side battered St Mirren but failed to make any of their 20 attempts count, while even the home manager at Ibrox admitted his side were fortunate to take all points.  What Stuart Kettlewell has achieved since taking over from Steven Hammell in February has been incredible.

While Celtic can expect a greater challenge than last week, Motherwell know exactly what is in store for them tomorrow.  Celtic scored six goals across their last two league games, that’s as many as Motherwell have scored in the league all season.  When the champions hit form, no one in Scotland can withstand them.

After making only one appearance last season, Scott Bain is set to double that number tomorrow, due to the suspension of Joe Hart.  He will have an important role to play.

The early kick-off gives us the chance to extend our lead at the top of the table to five points over challengers, St Mirren, on a temporary basis, anyway.  Saints travel to Kilmarnock later, but a win for Celtic would take the wind out of the sails of anyone else with title aspirations.

  1. Moussa Dembele claims Rangers fans sent him ‘death threats’ before Celtic derby clash

The French striker has broken silence on death threats he claims he received from Rangers fans while he was at Celtic.

Former Celtic star Moussa Dembele claims he was sent death threats from Rangers fans before Old Firm derbies.

The former Hoops hitman enjoyed a successful spell in Glasgow under Brendan Rodgers, scoring a hat-trick against their bitter rivals in his debut in the famous derby. Dembele would go on to score at Ibrox and win back-to-back Trebles during a storied stint at Celtic before making a big-money move to Lyon in his homeland. Now Dembele turns out for former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq and admits his departure from the Rhone club was somewhat acrimonious.

In a tell-all interview after sealing his move to Saudi Arabia, the 27-year-old has also broken his silence on the death threats he claimed he received when playing for the Hoops. He told Foot Mercato: “In football as in life, when you feel appreciated and supported you are better. Hostility does not scare me when it comes from the adversary.

“I would even say that it stimulates me. I experienced death threats from Rangers fans before the Glasgow derbies and that didn’t stop me from doing the job.

  3. muppet on clyde, celtics weakness is the defense ……….

only lost 3 goals in 6 league games , all 3 in the first two games, so we have 4 clean sheets in a row, even with all the disruption, why do people peddle this shite

  4. From Celtic TV.

It was on September 29, 1982, that Charlie Nicholas scored the goal of his career in the Olympic stadium, beating two defenders and gloriously chipping the keeper.

Bonner had the game of his life in goals by defying the Ajax forwards and was only beaten by a deflection.

With Cruyff withdrawn through injury after a long, slow departure from the field in 85 minutes to a rapturous ovation, Celtic took advantage of his absence by nicking the winner through George McCluskey. The players and fans celebrated wildly in the late Amsterdam night.

Just before the second goal, Danny’s shot reminded me of the goal in the 1980 SC Final.

    He passed shortly after.

Thanks for the heads up re the Ken Buchanan doc. all the more poignant given his passing earlier this year.

Spoke to OldTim67 earlier this evening, and he’s doing not too bad, not been able to spend as much time in the ol’ back garden as he would have like. Gets a regular visit from OneMalloy of this Parish which always helps. Not online at the moment, due to the fact that he gave up his tv/broadband package with BT due to their rip off policies, but there are other providers out there, including Shell Energy would you believe which bought the Post Office Broadband business. Cannot have a publicly owned broadband service now can we, too much like Jeremy Corbyn kind of thing, do not recall one protest over it, though Shell are not too bad service wise. Hope you are well

  14. Philbhoy – I will be fine thanks for the kind words. The laughter from that shower fair cheered me up right enough.

I hope you are well sir, you were missed today.

  15. A.T..RE..Ken B..Brought back memories circa 71/72 ..was at a night where Ken .Gordon Marshall…John Grieg

where addressing young offenders on the dangers of alcohol….Then bizarrely they presented a special guest.

Terry Dene….Aye us to ..who??? Anyway the ex rocker went thru a horrific story of the way drink wiped him and his whole family out ..From fame to shame….It was my first experience of witnessing a man pouring his soul out….I have no doubt it left a mark on many of the young audience that night we were 17/19 etc…

Ken gave a brilliant speech that night and had a standing ovation……
