Co-op awards Celtic the League Cup Final

940

Really pleased the Scottish Professional Football League have awarded the League Cup Final to Scotland’s largest football stadium, Celtic Park.  We are now hosting the League and Scottish Cup finals, as well as the head of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

So with the Commonwealth and Scottish Cup gigs going to Celtic, why didn’t Newco Rangers get the other final at their 50,000 capacity facility?

Back in the days such certification existed, Ibrox was a Uefa five star venue, whereas Celtic Park was four star, but maintaining those standards takes, well, maintenance, which has not been a priority in some parts.  Celtic Park remains highly functional, and safe.

There is also the hazard of planning an event, even six weeks out, at a venue owned (cough) by a company which does not have bank credit facilities and who are broadcasting financial distress signals like some kind of insolvency Batman call.

These perfectly valid reasons are, of course, a mere distraction from the real reason, the Co-op Bank, which controls Glasgow City Council, is also able to manipulate league football in Scotland and decided to award the final to their partner organisation, while cutting their borrowing rate, by way of compensation.

Issue 19 of CQN Magazine is fresh off the press, 104 pages of great stuff from the CQN community.  10 men won the league, Dam Justice, the Celtic Foundation, and Brogan Rogan outs the difficult questions to Pat Nevin about his Cup Final comments.

  3. I hear that the World Cup is being moved to Celtic Park in its entirety. We can squeeze it in between the Cup Final and the Commonwealth Games.

Thanks to GCC for supporting us in this lucrative venture.

Spoiler alert, Tony D on no account read the CQN mag as there’s an interview with the Patron Saint of University Bhoys, Jeanette Findlay on page 43

Awe ok, so she didn’t make page 3 then, no surprise there eh?

  5. Whitedoghunch, I would agree with everything in the link, except I would say that olive oil is at its best immediately after being produced, as the flavour and smell begin to decline after that. Of course, it is all relative, olive oil produced a couple of weeks ago will probably be superb, 6 months ago, less so. More than a year and it will certainly have lost a lot. You also find that there are other parameters which come into play – how long the olives have been stored before being pressed, etc.

Of course, this is easy to write here in Italy (where it is pouring at the moment, in Liguria), but getting fresh olive oil in Scotland is much more difficult. This is the period when it is at its best.

Fantastic news that the league cup final is heading to paradise as it deprives triggers broom fc of the much needed cash and prestige. It will drive the blue hordes demented of course with their Peter Lawell conspiracy theories.

Don’t know if anyone else has noticed this but it’s not even the co-op who sponsor the league cup anymore but maybe I’m just missing the point here.

What, if anything, happened to Cork (or yourself) this morning? Reason I`m asking is from Favourite Uncles post to 31003 earlier, referring to him accusing you and 31003 of using the Lords name inappropriately

  10. Apart from the Nevin interview there is the feature on the top 15 domestic games since Lisbon. I have a supply of the quite wonderful Stratheden Whisky from the Lost Whisky Company. This whisky stopped in 1926 and has only just returned – thanks to the efforts of a Celtic (and CQN) man. Stratheden is not available to purchase in the UK – it is for export only – and retails at around £60 a bottle. We sampled a bottle a Christmas and I am reliably informed by those who like whisky (and finished the bottle) that it is an exceptional blend with a real old fashioned flavour. Anyway to win a bottle you need to post (honestly) telling us how many of these 15 matches you attended. The guys saying they attended the most get the whisky and if there are too many names we will put the names into my CQN Beanie and draw out the winners.

I only ever join in on debates never start the political ones, if that’s campaigning then so be it but please what are doing? Aren’t you doing exactly the same? Is there something wrong with this? Should we ask Paul67 to close the site to comments as people are actually using it to debate points?

The site is what it is, sometimes it veres into religion or politics. Sometimes it degenerates into a discission on the relative merits of different types of Black pudding and all these discussions are on a so called football blog. Pity really as the football is actually much more interesting.

    Well sometimes it is.

Bit of an unfair comp for the whisky. You could have been born like myself in 1978 for instance and missed a few of the matches because you weren’t alive but attended 100% of the rest!

However, I demand to know the names of the people who overlooked us for the Winter Olympics. What was wrong with CP? We made a very reasonable offer to spray the terraces with snow for the ski jumping. Scandal.

BobbyRussell, Actually I have no issue with Favourite Uncle rapping me over the knuckles, it was a lazy post on my part and I was typing as I was thinking and didn’t realise what I had actually posted until I scrolled back some hours later. Re Cork There has been some very bad flooding over the past week and maybe he was referring to that, perhaps he was insinuating that it was The Lord’s way of giving me a kick in the ass. As it happens I don’t live in Cork, I live in Clonmel but then again we had a bit of flooding here too, so maybe it was an each way bet by the Boss.
