Commons phenomenal contribution

You will remember times, not so long ago, when a successful Celtic team went 15 months without keeping a clean sheet away from home in any competition, even against lower league opposition. Already this season we have achieved what until recently was regarded as beyond the club, won two games away from home without conceding.

Helsingborgs are not of the calibre of opponents Celtic can anticipate facing in the group stages of the Champions League (assuming no bizarre reversals), but they disposed of the Polish champions 6-1 on aggregate in the previous qualifying round and are as resourceful as Aalborg or Utrecht.

There was plenty to be pleased with in last night’s but the most striking element was the performance of Kris Commons. He scored goal and was credited with an assist, has scored both our league goals this season and had a further assist against Helsinki; an incredible return for a player who three weeks ago was drawing comment on the size of his shorts!

I think he posted under”private land”

But i’ve been wrong often dont know his/her club of choice

This time ,boss demanding im off :( “YES DEAR”

  2. I’m still surprised that referees are not allowed to be discussed considering the name of the blog.

Maybe they should change it to [the scottish football moniter excluding the match fixers]

To be quite honest, I’d fancy Celtic against Anderlecht, Copenhagen or Spartak Moscow far more than being a Pot 3 team playing a Borrusia Dortmund, Bate Borisov or Malaga.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter, just being there is everything this season but there is absolutely no easy draw.

Login problem for ages ….so this is a test post…and if it works…Big Hail Hail to Paul67!

Used to post from time to time a while back …so before any of you start…no HUNS at the chapel sixoclock or any other time!

You said earlier that you didn’t want Italian teams.

I watched a lot of Italian football last season, and in all honesty, they didn’t show me anything that scared me.

Udinesse are a decent outfit and we would have beaten them at home for a dodgy pen they got, we were unfortunate in Italy as well, gifted them a goal for the equaliser.

I know that Juve and Milan are a cut above, but still nothing there to fear me, I would rather them than a Spanish club, but want a Spainsh club so I can go see the Bhoys.

As you say, no easy draw, getting there is what it’s all about.

Actually you are right. They don’t look unbeatable and Celtic have a good record against Italian sides.

    Good shout.

Bet their fans celebrate as if they’ve won just watched Chelsea win the Champions League if they do win it.

Once saw Mark Hately walking through the foyer of the Albany hotel, couldn’t make up my mind if he was a Cochise or just a Vagina

I would tend to agree on MoN.

For all the good times he brought us, and there were many, Celtic was his swan song imo.

He has struggled since he left, and he hasn’t managed to ignite the epl like many thought he would, even with a decent spending power, he seems to go for non flair players.

    I wish him well.

    Crazy

He did great job and villa but board wouldn’t bal him to go to next level.. Look how they have done since.

Sunderland have been a massive improvement since he came, I think 1 flair player for him is enough and sseagnon is that and an excellent player.

We all know mon likes having big target man, fletcher is that but for 12m he probably could have got twice the player in crouch .

  13. Happy to report that a group of up to 200 Helsingborg supports intend to travel to Glasgow next week, seemingly bookings are made and all.

The chairperson of one particular group has informed me that they are in high spirits to be visiting Paradise for the first time, no matter the outcome of the game (he expects us to hump them).

Sadly, the same said-chairperson has also asked me to pass along the information that one particular Helsingborg group (ca. 50 in total) are most intend on causing trouble in Glasgow. This group is mainly comprised of young men with leanings towards the far-right and all things fascist.

Word has been passed onto them of the reality of trying to be hardmen in Glasgow: good medical insurance is a necessity. Hopefully, it’s all bluster. Still, be careful bhoys and ghirls.

I hear MON can only afford the £12M because of the add ons for the Murphster :o)

I watched the same game and thought both teams were excellent. The tempo, the speed of passing, the pressure on the ball were all superb.

Whichever of his names he picks, Dieumerci or Dieudonné Mbokani is the man. He really was like a young Drogba. It didn’t work out for him at Monaco, though, despite an €11 million transfer tag, and within a year, Anderlecht snapped him up for about €3 million (or half a Jordan Rhodes to you and me).

Wish my parents had named me Dieumerci or Dieudonné. That is a cracking name.

    I may be crazy.

But he spent a few bob at Villa, he didn’t spend the money wiseley imo, and he wanted more, didn’t get it and left.

He also left us cos the board wouldn’t back him any more.

I know his wife was seriously ill, but there were problems with money before her diagnosis.

He wanted the board to back him again after Sevilla, they didn’t.

What he did at Sunderland after Bruce wouldn’t have been hard imo, Bruce was brutal.

Sunderland will be a bottom of the table team this season, they won’t be fighting relegation, but they will find their level below the top ten.

As I said I wish him well.

  18. I mean, if your parents called you Dieumerci, you would know your whole life that they were really, really glad you had come along. What a fillip that would be for any youngster. That would give you confidence in any situation.

Compare and contrast with, say, Campbell.

All right, your employment prospects in the best small country in the world would take a bit of a hammering, but not if you were a footballer; sign for Celtic and you’d be flying.

As it’s the two of you …

Ask anyone in the know. There were people in the Celtic boardroom who were terrified of losing the money from the Sevco fixtures and were doves. No question.

I saw reference to posts on referees being deleted but had not read them before they were. I might have known it was you :).

Refereeing is an issue that will never be addressed directly because the motivation for doing so will always be questioned and the old “what are you trying to say?” defense deployed

(meaning “what are you saying, that our refs are cheating?”)to prevent change.

Problem at present is it is a cartel of folk at the SFA hell bent on retaining privileges.

It can only be done on a persistent demand for competency and consistency that a professional refereeing service shou;ld be created to deliver. Tackle it on suspicious grounds and you are swamp sailing without an airboat.
