Commons phenomenal contribution

737

You will remember times, not so long ago, when a successful Celtic team went 15 months without keeping a clean sheet away from home in any competition, even against lower league opposition. Already this season we have achieved what until recently was regarded as beyond the club, won two games away from home without conceding.

Helsingborgs are not of the calibre of opponents Celtic can anticipate facing in the group stages of the Champions League (assuming no bizarre reversals), but they disposed of the Polish champions 6-1 on aggregate in the previous qualifying round and are as resourceful as Aalborg or Utrecht.

There was plenty to be pleased with in last night’s but the most striking element was the performance of Kris Commons. He scored goal and was credited with an assist, has scored both our league goals this season and had a further assist against Helsinki; an incredible return for a player who three weeks ago was drawing comment on the size of his shorts!

Tom , MacJay from a man whose typing is slurred often enough Shaka has a right good strong Jamaican accent which is normally clear and concise. Not on Wednesday. Despite that he managed to at least give credit to the tic. My mate here says that it wasn’t Derek Raengers on with him so I got that wrong but no mistaking his pandering to the sevco media outlets whoever he was, lots of anti celtic radio snyde type remarks. Still not complaining about watching a LIVE Celtic game down under. Hope we have many more to come this year.

  2. Morning all,

apologies if already posted but for those who have 30 minutes to spare then i recommend listening to this interview with John Collins from yesterday on Talk Sport. Besides having to put up with Andy Gray you will get to hear and feel how much a Celtic fan JC was & still is as well as interesting stories on his Monaco move & days. Great listen.

I was listening to the Clyde comedy phone-in last night on my way home from work and the consensus seemed to be that the newco would retain the oldco history………thought “noone has told them that, when the oldco is formally liquidated, they no longer exist, including their history” …….. Bit of a rude awakening awaits the bhuns ……….. Ah well, at least the ongoing deception by green & co had the desired effect (SB sales) ………. 4. Morning all, weather perfectly tepid in the Chilterns…

Bit of a debate on MO’N last evening and the procurement of Steven Fletcher.

Firstly on the hasbeen front, MO’N is smart, he operates his Football Managerial occupation as would a career professional (Lawyer, Doctor, Acountant) making sure his CV is looking good, while moving up the food chain.

Now that may seem rather staid and contrived, but in my opinion Martin is a passionate, perceptive and hugely knowledgable Football Manager, complementary to the ambition.

So his M.O. take an underachieving Club with potential and resources and make it better, much better.

Now this did marvels for Wycombe Wanderers and repositioned Celtic as thee force in Scotland and a force in Europe. While both teams have failed to build on that success, they managed to maintain a level above and beyond their pre-mon incarnation.

Now MO’N is an excellent manager the improvement in Villa and Sunderland will testify, the thing is was this M.O. right for that time?Should Martin have set himself a higher challenge, taken a risk, shwon his true mettle when he left Celtic? Quite possibly.

He took some time out and the big English teams were sorted (or the believed they were sorted) on the Managerial front, there were some big shoes to fill someone else’s huge ambitions to fulfil, does Martin take those risks? Abroad? Well MO’N is first and foremost a family man.

He may have missed the big job, he may yet get his chance but he’s definitely not finished.

He spent £6M? on Chris Sutton, most in England and all @ Chelsea thought he’d vastly overpaid, not many at Celtic do.

Sunderland will finish top half this season and Steven Fletcher will achieve his potential.

‘Cause that’s the way the Man Rolls…

Hoping for a good result and performance from the Hearts tonight, the Scottish Football Renaissance continues, a’ hope!

The BDO / FTT delay is strange, though …….

But why do you think that ?

  8. That Phil Mac article will set the cat among the proverbials.

How does one inform UEFA and FIFA that a member association is not falling in to line with the rules by which they are bound?

Happily The Rangers seem to be making a few quid. So if they want to be seen as Old Rangers (and it will only be a perception) with any kind of credibility then they should approach the national debt helpline and arrange a repayment scheme of some kind.

Now, this may require more than just a few quid here and there when they have it. They live in a big expensive building and have a wee place in Milngavie or thereabouts which is also worth a few bob. The debt people might suggest that they sell this and move in to rented property to speed up the repayment process otherwise interest is just going to pile on.

After that they need to take an honest look at their lifestyle and cut back on the luxuries like having journeymen SPL players while they are in the third division. It’s not healthy. Time to kick the spending habit I think.

Of course even if that all comes to pass they are still not Old Rangers because as we all know they were liquidated. But if they want to pay the bills using the cash generated by the former customer base then the new club might earn some respect in it’s early days.

    No chance!

  9. League reconstruction …..

Last year Doncaster advised that a 16 team SPL was unworkable and financial suicide

Yet, the powers that be are now pushing league reconstruction as a necessity for SPL survival

Has something changed in the interim? :-))

  12. Snake Plissken on

Let me say firstly that I am 100% FOR league reconstruction because the product in Scotland’s top flight is far too repetitive and boring and quite frankly myself, many others on here and indeed most football fans in Scotland would welcome and have wanted a 16 team league for quite some time.

A 16 team league where you play home and away and then some type of play offs come in/split similar to the current one is both workable and will increase turnstile revenue at the end of the season for where it decides titles, European places and relegation. It would also allow for the revamping of the league cup (ties on a Saturday) and it would allow young players to develop and reduce the threat of relegation for many sides allowing our teams to develop playing styles and performance rather than the anti-football we see so often.

Next year a top tier of the current SPL PLUS

Falkirk, Dunfermline, Partick Thistle and Raith Rovers for example would be more interesting as it would bring in more local derbies and enhance the away travelling supports thank to basic geography.

Reintroduction of play-offs will bring huge financial boosts for sides at the end of the season as well as give the fans something to enjoy and quite frankly we have missed these games.

    HOWEVER

We all know why this is being done and for whose benefit.

We all know none of this would have been on the agenda had Dead Parrot FC not lived up to their name.

We all know this has the rotting fingers of those who still cannot accept reality all over it.

    And they’ve been punished enough…………….

Twas ever thus. Their biggest ever supporters are going to do what they wanted to do last year but couldn’t. I cannot see them failing this time if 4/5 Division 1 sides will go up, 16 SFL clubs will be one division from promotion to the top table and Division 3 clubs will have had their one year financial boost which was only ever going to be one year regardless.

EVERY rule has been bent or broken to ensure they played football this season and still they complain of an agenda against them. This is delusional beyond belief.

I will accept league reconstruction for the good of the game when those arguments are put forward and they don’t involve helping out Sevco’s return to the top table but at the moment this is a step too far.

We need to wait and see how they frame their hard-sell. If it is all about TV contracts and Armageddon then they’ll get another supporter revolt and if they try the same charm offensive (and I use the word offensive with more than one meaning) it is unlikely to meet with any more support than it got this year.

We must wait and see but these creatures running our game cannot be allowed to rail road us.

    Back to you internet bampots.

Help us Internet Bampots, you’re our only hope.

    Re: John Collins

For me, JC was THEE best reason for going to see the hoops in the early 1990’s.

I say that in the full knowledge that, JC played in the same team as Paul McStay(who will forever be fondly remembered as the Maestro).

By the time JC came to Celtic, the Maestro was towing a caravan in the shape of Peter(the pointer) Grant. Paul had far too much to do when Murdo Macleod was no longer around. Murdo will always be my favourite all-time Celtic player and, when he left for B.Dortmund, his fight/drive/industry and superb goals against the huns, all left with him. That, imo, left the Maestro with far too much to do.

So, when JC arrived, it was one of the best birthday presents I’ve ever had!

JC was correct not to allow himself to be pushed out the door to Middlesbrough of all places as, his talents deserved a far better stage than that and, he got his wish when he went to Monaco and, featured in the champions league semi-finals.

John Collins will always be warmly welcomed in – Kev’s Jungle :o)))

Back to a hot sun after some very pleasant days way up north .

Very strange game/ great result ——– could have been 3-2 or 0-6.

Celtic rode their luck but should have scored more . That failure to take chances worries me.

At times we were diabolical in defense. Some of Celtic’s defensive / holding play was dreadful.. There is a huge hole between the defense and the mid field..[ a quality CL team will love that]. Had Helsingborg’s final ball matched the quality of their approach play the result could have been very different. Great shift from Forster . Kayal and Brown were very poor , the 2 fullbacks likewise. Some of the team look to be unfit [ eg Ledley] Hooper is a lazy, lazy boy . Samaras is a football player.

Great substitution in Forrest—-turned the tide -forced them to change their shape and approach.

Great result —— a classic smash n grab . We are 2-0 up at half time——– the tie is far from over .

I think it’s kind of pointless to fret about publication of the FTT(T) result.

Whatever comes to light, none of it is likely to be good for SDM & Co and even if it were it will be too late to be of any help to the dying embers of that part of the Murray ‘empire’.

I suppose it’s remotely possible that there may be some political decision-making/timing issues around its publication, but I think it more plausible that any delay will be the result of the oft-cited backlog of cases or, perhaps (at least one would like to think), because there may be legal implications once it enters the public domain.

If, for instance, the FTT findings show clear evidence of wrong-doing at RFC PLC RIP, it may be incumbent upon HMRC to liaise with the Fiscal/CPS beforehand …

  20. I heard the Clyde phone in last night (well some of it). Wee Dawwwyylllll was peddling the club is separate from the company myth for a bit. He quickly realised he was on very thin ice and then shifted the blame to the SFA and SPL who had allowed The Rangers to buy the history of the club.

The media have learned nothing from this debacle – absolutely nothing and they are still cheerleading the new huns. Their (and the SFA’s) arguments bear absolutely no scrutiny whatsover. They are still trying to decry the Celts at every turn while propping up the stupid new huns. I too laughed at the caption of McCoist being described as impressing.

Then we have the league reconstruction nonesense. For the avoidance of doubt if the SFA/SPL/SFL try to gerimander the league structure to allow the new huns into the top league earlier then the supporters will once again rebel – they can forget their season tickets etc (and this is true for Celtic as well as any other club).

This little country really is a cesspit.

  21. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

The club and company are separate, had Celtic went into administration and then liquidation anybody could’ve come in and bought what was left including a shiny big cup and all the media would’ve told everybody so,the hearse sent by the record was now looks very foolish on those involved, not because that fate never actually befell Celtic but because those involved in sending and taking snaps of said hearse tried to con the Scottish public by advertising the death of the football club when they knew fine well that, yes, you’ve guessed it…….

He thinks it’s great that they now have someone (Charles Green ) to stand up for them , I asked if he was serious as I thought CG was going to turn them over AGAIN . CG was right , it was bigoted people who punished them according to him .
