Dangerous teams with nothing to lose

482

We lost at Ibrox in January to a team that did not record a single attempt on target, not even at the own-goal we conceded.  We lost there again this month having missed a penalty and even better chances, while assisting the effort with another own-goal.  Frankly, Newco must be wondering how poorly they need to play against us to lose a game.  Nothing I saw from the home team in either of our recent defeats there justified fear of them.

If the old adage ’beware the straw man’ holds true, Celtic will deliver.  The straw man has nothing to lose or fear.  What have Celtic got to lose heading to Ibrox on Sunday?  This should be the most relaxed Celtic team to head there in Newco’s 9-year history.

The dubious motivation, to stop Newco’s unbeaten run in the league, feels a bit beneath us, but still…..

  1. lets all do the huddle on

An article about Billy McNeill by Paul67 on CQN today with the headline

“CELTIC FAIRY-TALE OF CAESAR AND THE 31st CROWN”

    Surely it’s ‘Cesar’

He’s too busy these days sorting out his Klan’s narrative on here that he cant even get that right

Moderator – can you delete Paul67’s story with that headline? thanks

Thanks for clarifying. I’m easily confused.

Theres a reason I need things explained as though I’m 6 or 60

  3. You start to understand how civilisation fails when you hear the half baked thoughts of the anti-vax crew as they gain strength from each other and spout tripe from the rooftops.

No sense of society only an overblown sense of their own importance and infallibility / invulnerability.

200km on a bike / per week — in their dreams / not a hope.

Shouldn’t be left in charge of a hamster.

  4. Let’s all do the Huddle

It has been explained many times before that what started off as Cesar (for Cesar Romero) became transformed during Billy’s own playing days to Caesar and he found both acceptable.

There are many things that need correction on the tabloidesque parts of CQN magazine but that is not one of them

  5. I had the second jag yesterday. Thank you, NHS Scotland. Is there a jag to protect from some of the toxic contributors to CQN?? If not, I hope one is developed soon.

Check your history – it’s Caesar. Big billy was named after the Roman leaders. Nowadays, Cesar is accapted as well.

Not been well today and spent most of it in bed, thought I would give CQN a read about the game tomorrow. You have difficulty finding anything on football, no wonder bhoys are off this blog😱😵

see if you dont know the CESAR story, I seriously doubt your celtic credentials.

    —————-

    The Nickname ‘Cesar’

Everyone seems to know that Billy McNeill’s nickname is Cesar, and then have images of the rampaging Roman leader Julius Caesar rising above all others at the Coliseum. When you see the pictures of Billy McNeill holding aloft the European Cup in 1967 on being presented the trophy after the victory over Inter Milan, it is easy to see how the comparisons come about. Cries and headlines of ‘Hail Cesar’ are not uncommon either when his name is mentioned.

Alas, it is an easy mistake for anyone to make. Firstly note, its ‘Cesar’ not ‘Caesar’, and the nickname is not actually in reference to the old Roman leader.

His nickname actually derives from being one of the only Celtic team players to own a vehicle at the time, and was inspired by a role in the movie Ocean’s Eleven (the original version) played by the actor Cesar Romero who acted as the gang’s getaway driver in the film. Cesar Romero was, at the time, one of the original Hollywood bratpack of Sinatra, Romero, Sammy Davies Jnr., Dean Martin etc, a million miles away from Billy McNeill’s real persona.

Still, the mistake is carried on by many, and even Billy McNeill himself played along with it, with an autobiography of his having been titled ‘Hail Cesar’, carrying over the spelling difference.

However, there are still plenty of those who still claim otherwise. Lisbon Lion, Bertie Auld says that the nickname ‘Caesar’ was used long after the original nickname of ‘Cesar’, and many still stick to that story, although Billy McNeill himself dismissed this.

The original with ‘Cesar’ as was used by McNeill in his biography seems more likely to sit right.

  10. Lawwellism leads to players being assets/sell on value/ potential. Organised, ref backed hun shipe defeats that. Wake the fugg up Celtic first 11.

Easy to say and I happy clapped the shi* out of Pedro in the 9 and I still thank him for it.

I don’t think it is a problem if Eddie Howe wants to pick his own staff. However I would have an issue with him picking the director of football as, if my understanding of the role is correct, he would be choosing his own boss.

im not sure what Billy found acceptible is relevant – he didn’t give himself the nickname
