Dangerous teams with nothing to lose

482

We lost at Ibrox in January to a team that did not record a single attempt on target, not even at the own-goal we conceded.  We lost there again this month having missed a penalty and even better chances, while assisting the effort with another own-goal.  Frankly, Newco must be wondering how poorly they need to play against us to lose a game.  Nothing I saw from the home team in either of our recent defeats there justified fear of them.

If the old adage ’beware the straw man’ holds true, Celtic will deliver.  The straw man has nothing to lose or fear.  What have Celtic got to lose heading to Ibrox on Sunday?  This should be the most relaxed Celtic team to head there in Newco’s 9-year history.

The dubious motivation, to stop Newco’s unbeaten run in the league, feels a bit beneath us, but still…..

Roddie MacDonald or that halfwit that lost his debenture seat at “the Victorian toilet block” Roddy Forsyth, if it’s the latter he’d be the last person to know, I’m surprised no one has alerted Radio 5 Live to this charlatan.

Yes you’d think RTÉ would figure out as well as they always have him on when talking Scottish football. This is the guy who said Rangers going into administration would save them. And then they were liquidated that ‘they’d come back stronger ‘. He has zero insight considering that as a debenture holder he’d know that Rangers died but is happy to proclaim the continuity myth. I emailed RTÉ to complain about the complete and utter nonsense (and lies he spouted) didn’t get a response, no surprise from them all starry eyed about English football.

I’d imagine it’s like most things in life he got the gig with Radio Scotland, once you’re in you’re in especially with organisations like the BBC. Its like George Hamilton who does tv commentary on soccer (as football is called here) for RTÉ, you’ll also hear him commentating on athletics, boxing and hockey. He also has a Saturday and Sunday show on Lyric FM, the classical music radio station here. I might add he’s as knowledgeable as Roddie. As my youngest says he comments on soccer like it’s the first time he’s ever seen it! He’s being doing it for 30 odd years incidentally. Don’t get me started when he tries to explain the away goals rules in European football!!

I think Legends and Cult Figures are different things, but you can also be both

Jinky – Legend and Cult Figure

    Cesar – Legend

    Anton – Cult Figure

and a couple of hundred more.

  18. Another less known misspelling of the nickname of a Celtic legend is of another captain, twice manager and statue-in-waiting, Neil Lennon

Lennon grew up with with a taste for hard rock, amphetamines and Nazi memorabilia that got him the schoolboy nickname “Lemmy” after the hard living Motörhead front man. Not being Au fait with heavy metal heroes his Leicester academy team-mates assumed it was a simple play on his surname, and when Lemmy decided to save the blushes of his ignorant friends it stuck.

  19. In his time on loan at Notts County Callum Macgregor became addicted to chocolate substitute confectionery, and Caramacs in particular.

    On his return to Celtic…

Good point. I dare to suggest that a cult hero is may be more likely to be liked for their image or aura than for their talent. So players like Jonny Doyle, Alfie Conn, Broony, or The Holy Goalie would be cult heroes and Jinky, Big Billy, James McGrory, or Paul McStay would be legends. Just an opinion.

If you go to this link

https://philmacgiollabhain.ie/2020/11/23/rugger-guy-does-a-deep-dive-in-to-rifc-year-end-accounts/ you will find Phil’s Rugger Guy did his usual on the last set of accounts to 30 June 2020 issued Nov 2020.

What I noted at the time, being a bit of speciality of mine, if you scroll down the pages is that RIFC/RFC plc owed HMRC £9.7m in unpaid tax.

Now due to Covid UEFA relaxed their rules on money due to social tax authorities but what is not clear is how relaxed HMRC are.

In normal circumstances to get a UEFA licence now Rangers either paid the sum before 31st March or had a written agreement to postpone collection until a date after 31 March or were disputing they owed a penny or the claim was unsubstantiated under Annex Viii to Article 50 of UEFA FFP.

Given they lied in 2011 to get a licence, most probably with SFA knowledge (Dickson a current RIFC Director was on the Licensing Commitee) but Celtic care not a jot, then there is little point hoping that a licence will not be granted to them this season using the Covid card.

However JHB asked for evidence of external debt and at 30 June they had at least £9.7 tax owed to HMRC.

Yet their wage bill rose by around £6m! and helped pay the players that stopped 10iar.

Covid has been lucky for RIFC in all kind of ways and where the Board are responsible is their ongoing reluctance since 2013 to call them out as a matter of policy, even when presented with compelling evidence to do so from Aug 2018 that the licence in 2011 was obtained by false pretence.
