Dateline 66-67: Celts open League Cup defence at Tynecastle

1034

The Football Specials will be packed today with optimistic Celtic fans ahead of their opening competitive game of season 1966-67 at Tynecastle.  The Glasgow club hope to win the League Cup for the fourth time in their history. They face a Hearts team looking to win the League Cup for the firth time, which last season became increasingly dependent on lightning-fast striker, Willie Wallace.

By comparison, the reigning Division One and League Cup champions have two of the best wingers in the country. Bobby Lennox and Jimmy Johnstone were the only Celtic players to score in their final eight competitive games of last season, as Jock Stein’s team’s fitness proved crucial with a barrage of late goals.

St Mirren visit Clyde in the other Group 4 game, the only group with all Division One teams, but it’s the two giants who meet in Edinburgh who are favourites to produce the group winner.

I watched the whole of the hun game yesterday.

Forrester , who was taken off before he risked being sent off , is the archetypal hun.

    He `ll need sorting.

Hail Hail fella, hope yer well.

Yeah, it’s what I look for in a Celtic team 1st of all…..

…who’s gonny be doing all the battling, ball-winning and, just putting in an industrial shift in the middle of the park ?

I think that Cellic need 2 tigers in the middlle of the pitch.

    At the minute….we don’t have any…imho.

Calum Paterson could be a golden nugget ?

    Broony…..?…..Nah, not for me.

    Tough guy’s don’t lean with they’re chins.

Cute-tough-guys don’t have 3 attempts to pull down Neymar from the back, knowing that, as soon as ye look at Neymar, he’ll fall onto the pitch and get ye sent off.

Cute-tough-guys don’t put they’re own ‘little’ needley-fueds ahead of the interests of the Celtic team.

    Is Brendan onto Broony ?

Or, has Brendan been duped by Broony ?….ala – Peter Grant with…..

    David Hay ?

    Billy McNeill ?

    Liam Brady ?

    Lou Macari ?

    Tommy Burns(RIP) ?

    Who all got sacked ?

Wim got rid of PG and – won 2 trophy’s !!!!!

Cute-tough-guys don’t utter – “Aberdeen will be our nearest challengers.”

Cute-tough-guys utter – “We’ll be doing the best that we can to, meet ‘all’ of our challengers head-on.”

Broony reminds me of the old saying – “If ye go looking for trouble – ye’ll git it.”

    The huns are p#sh!

The huns will be driven by mibbery, which could be dangerous as, for us…it looks like Brendan’s been told to pursue the PLC-narrative of, looking the other way…..early days but, my 1st impressions….are that, Brendan’s Celtic team on the pitch, might not be paranoid enough ?…..we’ll see.

Why is John Kennedy still in the dug out ?

Has Lawwell ‘planted’ JK into Brendan’s dressing room as a ‘spy’ ie: like Fergus and, Jock Brown did when they ‘planted’ Eric Black to spy on, Wim and Murdo ?

As I said, maybe there ain’t enough paranoia at Celtic Park ?

That laxity comes from the ‘top’ of the club.

    Interesting times ahead……hmmmm….?????

    Take Care Tims – YNWA.

    ….off-oot-zzzzz…..

    …………………

Why should we even take this on board. After all aren’t you the one who previously told us that Broony

“was a Hun, is a Hun and always will be a Hun”

Maybe you should be more careful what you write on the internet as it is not the same as a throwaway remark made down at the bar on a Saturday night that nobody remembers the next morning.

Scott Brown has never ever been a Rangers supporter.

    He always played football.

As a youth his Cousin Kevin Fotheringham played for Rangers.

when he wasn’t playing himself Scott would occasionally go and watch his cousin play for Rangers youths ,with is step dad and his uncle.

All stories of Rangers tattoos etc,are utter rubbish.

If he had a leaning to a team as a youth ,it was Hibs.

Well aware of that. This is the Celtic captain we are talking about. I’m a fan hence the \o/ in my username.

Just pointing out the problems of taking on board someone’s opinions when they are so clearly prejudiced.

Or maybe showing a nasty vindictive side to a poster who many regard as a harmless ranter.

It wasn’t my opinion being quoted

Just check your bank statement to see if the ticket money has been taken out.

  7. Simple solution to the envisaged flag problem come Wednesday night

I suggest that Peter invites all The Celts for Palestine into Celtic Park first thing Monday morning and offers to pay their air fares to Tel Aviv first flight on Wednesday then they can take their wee paper flags to the heart of the problem and wave away away till their hearts content.Probably save the club a few bob for the next twenty years or so

Ps When is Darren O’Dea getting his invite to sit at the back of the bus

  8. TIMBHOY3 on 14TH AUGUST 2016 1:03 PM

I’m on the Home Cup Ticket Scheme. Does that include Wednesday match, thanks.

How about lobbying your local MP/MSP, the Foreign Office, the UN, or supporting supporting any aid organisation either voluntarily of financially. I wonder how many have taken any action whatsoever outwith waving a flag at a football match.

  10. Jobo, hope the day went well, I’m sure it did.

If your head needs clearing, I have a great spread on the go plus some Cava, white Rioja and Budvar beer on the go?

    Surely that’ll clear your tubes?

  11. Timbhoy,

Wednesday on home ticky scheme. £25 taken from bank account. No need for ticket just wave your card at the turnstyle.

Still marvelling in our first goal on Wednesday. What a finish by Tom Rogic, but the quick passing and movement off the ball during the build up would have made a good Barca team proud.

All started by Tom Rogic, on the half turn, out on the right, just in front of ole Dingus’ dugout.

I think I’ve mentioned several times before,on here, that Craig Thomson is by far, consistently, the “best” game manager/cheat in Scottish football. No need to sully my eyesight, by viewing a Sevco hun game, to confirm this fact.

Just makes the triumphs all the sweeter.

Enjoy your grub, am afraid it’s beans on toast for lunch with maybe a cold can of strongbow 20 cans @ £11 well £9.90 with the Mrs tesco discount, you can take the bhoy out of Coatbrig but never Coatbrig out of the bhoy

Listening to radio Scotland today and the St Mirren new owner/chairman was pretty impressive, am no lover of Alex “ebt” Rae who would have signed for the old Club no matter what they paid him (aye right) but the new owner guy sounded good and actually spoke some sense, quite like listening to ex-Celt Jim Goodwin as well…….no need for any remarks re Jim G :-)

Let me know how you get on.

Thought we did well last night against Inter. Played as a unit. Izzy’s caught out again with his lack of inches at the first goal. Efe sublime in the 2nd half. Pity about his tendency for the gaffes at crucial times.

  18. Parkheadcumsalford –

In the late 60s when my brother and a couple of pals and I started going to games on our own, we would head for “the girders” at the back of the west terracing. This was in the days of the old black roof. At the back there was an iron shelf, criss-crossed by iron girders which served as supports. There was ample room for bhoys to climb up and stand on the shelf, with the wall at your back and your head almost touching the roof, leaning on to the criss-crossing iron girders.

For a bhoy of 14 or 15, the view was phenomenal and, when it was v the Huns or a big European game, we would look down on the packed crowds just below us and quite often you could see steam rising from the swaying mass of humanity.

We did that for a couple of seasons and it was magical.

  19. GFTB,

thanks, it’s serving hour minus 15 just now, so Jobo better be quick.

case of Strongbow sound like a decent lunch to me, that’s at least a weeks worth of five a day.

I am already on the outside of two pints of vintage cider so all is good… Enjoy the beans on toast.

    Cheers
