Dave King behind the 8 ball

190

It is reasonable to be upbeat in a season ticket renewal letter.  But for Dave King, chairman of Newco, this is a challenge.  When he acquired the club four years ago, Celtic had won three consecutive league titles.  Now, they are on the verge of three consecutive trebles and eight leagues in a row.

In the history of Scottish football, there has never been as dominant a team.  In the context of having guided Newco through Celtic’s four-to-eight-in-a-row, Dave King does not have an easy pitch to his team’s supporters.

Not one to allow harsh realities to bite home, King told Newco fans “We are now within tangible reach of Rangers [sic.] becoming the dominant force in Scottish football”.

As founding father Charles Green might say, define dominant force.

King added, “Every fan should know that the season-ticket revenue will solely go towards the first-team squad.”  Which means that the £20m or so required for policing, rates, utilities, administration and insurance, if paid, will presumably come from other sources.

Dave is behind the 8-in-a-row ball.  He has watched Celtic’s domination grow under his stewardship to levels you and I could only fantasise about before his arrival back at Ibrox.

A more accurate letter would say, ‘Our realistic expectations are to finish second and compete for a cup.  Despite comments before we bought the club four years ago, we do not have the resources to change anything.  But at least we won control.’

  2. As for McInnes, further Proof of HIM being happy to see his Players constantly fouling Celtic Players, was HIS deliberate choice to NOT to Sub Ferguson, DESPITE the number of Fouls he had commited that the Ref gave to Celtic, and NOT forgetting several other “incidents” involving Eddy, Ryan and Keirnan that went unpunished by the Ref.

That is downright Poor Management of your own Players by NOT Subbing them, and having NO concern about the potential damage to opponents, and not forgetting that to simply ignore and/or encourage YOUR Players to inflict Physical damage, with the possibilty of having Players sent Off, and your team being reduced in numbers in a vital game, is a complete dereliction of duty to your own Players, the Opposition, Your Fans and Your Club.

After Ferguson had committed his 3rd Foul in the 1st half, Ref Thomson DID have a few words with him, McInees ( being a obvious student of the game ?), MUST have known that ferguson was in danger of being sent off, but refused to Sub him ?

McInnes made a Big deal about the Boyata/GMS head clash last December….Given his position on the touchline, and that Ferguson was to later commit TWO further Fouls on Christie and Teirney ( an assault !), BOTH of which occurred around the same area of the Boyata/GMS Clash…McInnes MUST have seen BOTH those clear Fouls also, and yet STILL didnt Sub Ferguson..who later attempted to break the leg of Rogic !

As for the Elbow on KT in that 2nd half in our Penalty Box, this assault was only around 90 Seconds after EVERYONE has watched Ryan Christie being stretchered off with that Head Injury…and Yet McInnes STILL REFUSED to Sub Ferguson !

I didnt Post anything about the Catholic Church regarding Notre Dame etc, and I know You didnt accuse Me anyway, but lets NOT Pretend that through the Ages, the Catholic Church has been Whiter than White ?

As far as I aware ( and I could be wrong ?), Religon has caused more Wars through the Ages than anything else ?

In 1977, I had to Politely advise My Old Local Parish Priest to leave My Home, after he verbally insulted My New Bride, in My own living Room, and in the presence of others, only a Week after we were Married. That was the last time I ever spoke to that Man.

This same Parish Priest was SELLING Candles to his own Parish People during the Power Cuts in Britain in the 1960’s…INSTEAD of simply handing them out, Especially to Families with large Families and who struggled to put Food on the table…never mind Candles !

Having called Balls tackle…assault on RC on first viewing…I was wrong…it was a deliberate targeted assault on a vulnerable in-air player…resulting in Ryan with multiple fractures, out for the season….that makes it ABH….not sure I’ve ever been angrier…

I share your anger at this one.

The young player is not out of the woods yet ….. surgery tomorrow starting ….. with all the complications involved, including eyesight.

Violent attack is the way I saw it.

  6. Wishing Christie all the best for his surgery.

Will there be a Holyrood inquiry into Sunday’s shame game? Fat chance.

I totally agree. I’ve watched that a few times now, but won’t again as I just get angry.

Ryan has headed the ball and Ball’s feet are virtually still on the ground. There is no way he wasn’t aware of what was going to happen. Most of us have been in similar situations and would have at least pulled our head aside to avoid or minimise contact.

Much Let’s All Laugh At Rube ( while bemoaning what it says about Italian football ) in the media .

Put the boot in humour –

” Ronaldo fails to win the Champions League ”

” He ran off the pitch and headed straight to the Dressing Room no doubt bemoaning that he’d lost and thinking Goodbye Ballon D’Or ” .

To be fair many journos / pundits were very critical of his signing -( Here To Win The Champions League ! )- many forecast that dependence on him and his ego would weaken the Rube Borg and turn Rube into Ronaldo plus 10 others . Wiser Rube fans tended to agree with that and many claimed that recent Rube teams (without Ronaldo ) were better than the current model..

I thought Ajax played very very well .Lovely to watch . Should have /could have won by more (and really rubbed it in ) but they have a tendency to over play the ball (just like Napoli ! )

Turin police seem happy that ” A difficult night ” only produced 123 arrests (54 of those being the group of Ajax Ultras who were arrested and deported before the game ) Those arrested included Ultras associated with Maribor , Feyenoord , Anderlecht and Den Haag .

    HOT SMOKED .

Much of the scoffing is directed at Juve . £ 88.3 million transfer fee for a 33 year old who’d win them the Champions League ( absolutely not required for one team league Serie A ). A 4 year contract -30 million euros a year . Italian Law also requires Juve to pay the same in tax as they pay in wages -therefore Rube are paying 60 million euros a year for Ronaldo..

To quote 2 pundits on the radio last night .

    ” Pundit # 1 – What now for Juve and Ronaldo ?

Pundit #2 – Maybe he’ll win it next year for them or maybe he will be sold to another Club that wants to win the Champions League “

  11. Interesting point on Ronaldo vs Messi for the Ballon d’Or

When it comes to scoring records in the business end of the CL (Quarter finals, Semi finals and finals)

Ronaldo has scored 42 and Messi 18.

In quarter finals Messi has 12 goals in 22 games. Ronaldo is 25 in 25.

Ronaldo has 21 semi final appearances and has scored 13 goals. Messi has only scored 4 at this stage.

Messi has scored in 2 finals. Ronaldo 4.

Watching Messi brings me more joy but Ronaldo is obviously a football terminator sent back in time to break every goalscoring record.

  13. Very controversial but would you take Lewis Ferguson??

His stats (goals/assists) this season are way more impressive than Brown/ McGinn or Armstrong at the same age (19). I’ve read on here a few times that his mum’s family are all big Celtic fans. I think it would still be hard to see him at Celtic though.

    ____

Honestly, I would. However, he’s contracted til 2024 which means he’d be very expensive to buy and he isn’t better than McGregor or Christie.

I’d take him if he was available for a small fee. I have a feeling Aberdeen would be looking for something crazy like 5 or 6 million.

  15. Mini Fergie? – no chance.

…and as for the sheep getting money for him – 1.5 max.

He’ll end up back at he Edwardian Toilet Block. His Level.

  16. TIMALOY29 on 17TH APRIL 2019 11:15 AM

You are right about Aberdeen looking for big money.

I wouldn’t buy him to replace Christie or McGregor. I’d see him as the Brown replacement. I think we have some really good forward thinking central midfielders in McGregor/ Christie/ Rogic and even Henderson as a youth team back up.

Our ball winning midfielders are Brown/ Ntcham/ Bitton/ Kouassi and Mulumbu. Brown surely only has 12 good months left in him. Of the others only Ntcham (on his good days) is good enough and realistically he will leave in the next year or so. We need some new legs/bite in this position!!

I’d actually sell Ntcham for 15m and spend the money on McKenna, Ferguson and Gumny (the Polish right back we were linked with in Jan).

  17. Haven’t seen enough of Lewis Ferguson to have an opinion on whether he is good enough for us. Looks more like Ian Ferguson than his dad or uncle who could both play a bit. Maybe we should sign him to save his soul as I agree he looks ibrokes bound. Potential to become really ugly.

“RT @CeresArabs Wow. Imagine what the punishment would be if a club fielded improperly registered players over several years & won major trophies doing so? Trophies like the 2008 League Cup, for example.

Timely answer to Cameron’s Herald article, linked shortly before your post.

His question isn’t really “Why can’t Celtic supporters cheer up?”

It’s “Why can’t you all just move on?”

With similar action being taken against Dundee Utd a few years ago for registration failings, it would have been great if they, then, and Clyde, now, would point out the inconsistencies in terms of the punishment meted out for lesser offences than Rangers (1872-2012).

However, with our Club being the biggest victim of the cheating, we’re in no position to ask of others what we won’t do ourselves.

    HARALD SCHUMACHER ON PATRICK BATTISTON

Germany vs France, 1982 World Cup semi-final

    The iconic foul.

“With the score at 1-1 in the 1982 World Cup semi-final, France substitute Patrick Battiston bore down on goal, chasing a long ball that had also alerted German ˜keeper Harald Schumacher.

The two raced towards each other at speed, but neither backed out of this football version of chicken. Battiston was focused on the ball, and reached it first, firing past the onrushing custodian. Schumacher – obviously the smarter of the two – decided to ignore the ball completely, and concentrated on surviving a crash by leaping and turning his body into his opponent.

Schumacher slammed into the Frenchman, catching him full in the face and immediately knocking out three teeth. Battiston was prone on the turf, toothless and with vertebrae damage, but the referee decided no foul had been committed and resumed play, much to the astonishment of players and fans alike.”

    From Four Four Two.

  21. it was a brutal assault on Christie designed to injure him..not just hurt him. I couldn’t believe he only got a yellow. Police should have arrested him! FAR worse than tackle(!) on Rogic. PS Can someone get kit man to make players wear long sleave tops if the are wearing underwear! Looks more like a hibs top…..

    So -it begins .

Serious Italian newspaper – Il Corriere della Sera is claiming that Ronaldo will leave Juve at the end of this season .. Twist in that tale (if it’s true ) is that Juve thought they were in pole position to pay big bucks for Benfica’s hot poop striker -Joao Felix. Allegedly it was his dream to play in the same team as his hero Ronaldo and the poor guy will now sign for Manchester City instead . Hey Ho !

  23. “We are aware of Cristiano’s availability, and believe, with a full renewal of Season Tickets, that this game-changing signing would be within tangible reach, allowing us to complete the final leg of our journey to being the dominated, sorry, dominant, force in Scotland”.
