Dear Mrs Budge

254

Tynecastle has been a source of intolerant abuse for decades.  Visitors, including the Celtic support, have endured the most offensive behaviour imaginable.  This is ongoing and culminated in our manager being assaulted in his technical area recently.

It is the easiest thing in the world to throw abuse at others while being blind to your own fans’ behaviour.  It is merely adequate to criticise your own while pointing out the errors of others, for example – Celtic fans who vandalise are knuckle-dragging idiots – it’s that easy.

We await your apology public to Anthony Stokes for the sectarian abuse he received at your stadium.

My hunch is that you’ll body-swerve this one, that you don’t know sectarian abuse from public comments the Scottish authorities have made illegal in order to “equalise” the offenders, and this intervention will encourage the galleries of intolerance at Tynecastle.

Signing event in Stirling

Joe Miller will be at Waterstones in Stirling tomorrow (Thurs) from 5pm to sign copies of Caesar and the Assassin, Billy McNeill and Davie Hay’s account of managing Celtic from 1978 to 1991, told in their own words to Alex Gordon.

Joe is a great character who worked under McNeill, Hay and Alex Ferguson, and now heads the Celtic Former Players Association.  If you’re in the Stirling area, get along and bring your camera.

The 2015 CQN Annual is through design and ready to ship next week. You can pre-order yours now.

  1. In the past I watched a Hearts v Celtic game from the very stand the posh Hearts fans like Ms Budge sits, the best clad are the vilest of the bigots.

I was really taken aback at the level of sectarian bile spouted by these well heeled scum. I’ll take no lectures on ‘West Coast sectarianism’ from these kind of people.

  2. Paul…did you actually read Mrs Bs statement or did you take comments from news feeds?

Mrs B didn’t miss her own support and given she is responding from a partisan perspective I would have thought a little more credit was her due.

I would however be upset had there been any vandalism etc. at their league match last week AND she made no comment then. Mention such things once, mention needed at all times. Maybe there were no issues worthy of comment since the Sevco support was severely limited (900?).

There has regularly been damage from many away supports from time to time (noteworthy the Well v Albion R cup tie the week before our visit to Fir Park) and for the most part the clubs quietly agree to compensate. If recent history of football in Scotland tells us anything the need for transparency is paramount.

At the risk of repeating myself Premiership clubs should agree a reporting format to cover vandalism within the stadium and its facilities (not accusations of ‘offensive behaviour’ or other subjective events).

Create a dedicated website with video/ pics of clearly identified areas and location to provide before and after analysis.

Provide a ratio of fans to stewards/ police at each section/ location.

Provide detail of CCTV coverage per area

    Confirm away fan attendance numbers.

    Etc.

These details to be posted prior to and after every game at each stadium. A virtually cost free system, in fact a cost saving system, to stop all the whataboutery, subjective and biased commentary and accusations.

  3. First and foremost, if Celtic fans did any of the things Budgie said they did, then they should be banned by the club. Secondly, one of the worse examples of sectarian behaviour in Scottish football (and one of the least reported) was the behaviour of Hearts fans during the minutes silence for the death of Pope John Paul II. AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!!!!!!!!

It says this about the Hamburg fans –

“Seemingly the only problem Netzer couldn’t solve was the fans, for in the stands, an unsavoury element was beginning to make itself heard. The Aktionsfront Nationaler Sozialisten, a neo-Nazi group based in Hamburg, was founded the year Keegan came to Germany and almost immediately began to recruit among the disenchanted on the Volksparkstadion’s West Terrace. As a result of their presence, HSV came to represent the far-right of Hamburg, and pitched battles between the club’s fans and their left-wing counterparts were common.”

  5. Who is this Ms Budgie that commands so much self righteous flaying of ones flesh as soon as she speaks

  6. Margaret…

    Understand why you say that.

Still, what a pity if football games only have home fans.

I find it very strange that none of the press pack at the game noticed any damaged seats

Nor did I during or after the game. Strange.

  8. HamiltonTim,

“despite drunkenness, drug use etc I didn’t witness any of the things that this lady is talking about.”

Are you saying that you had taken too many drugs and were too wasted with alcohol to have seen any alleged vandalism?

    Hardly convincing testimony m’lud.

    Only kidding HT,

but you can see how any statements can be twisted to suit any agenda.

Yesterday, I was asked,by a Motherwell supporter, if I was going to game on Saturday. When I said no, he asked why.

I told him I did not enjoy the way Celtic fans, and myself in particular, were treated at away venues, so I choose not to attend.

I didn’t tell him that I am often dismayed by the behaviour of a section of the Celtic support, but I am.

    What about tonight?

    3-0?

    Specovic to score?

    Will we get 30,000?

Re giving young lads a chance, there is a bit of hypocrisy with us all. We want to see young lads coming through but we want to win matches more. Great if we can combine the two but if we are struggling in a game and our young lad is not playing well, he will come under pressure from the fans. Last year Darnel Fisher looked like a great find but can’t get near the team this year, young McGregor had a very impressive start to season but has faded in recent games. Its a very hard call for Ronny, do you let him slip back out of contention like Fisher or do you persevere with him.

    Certain irony here Paul!

We too have a sectarian element, denying it means encouraging it.

    IMO, of course.

  13. BTW

Having met HamiltonTim I believe he would be neither drunk or stoned, just in case anyone thought I would impugn his reputation.

Not seeing it is not the same as saying it never happened or that every Celt is innocent.

If you have never seen our fans vandalise a toilet, throw a coin or scribble graffiti, then you have every right to disbelieve the Budge statement.

I found it quite a measured statement which called out her own fans first of all, hardy the behaviour of an “out to get Celtic at all costs” bigot. That does not mean I believe every charge made is true or that there was a near riot (The support came as close as I’ve seen to rioting when Neil was attacked and 3 stands full of Hearts fans applauded the attack).

I think we will soon see the evidence and, even if it is smaller than claimed, it still happened.

It would be educative to see what Celtic are paying in bills to other teams after away fixtures and compare that with what we bill other teams. If the money was significant and as it comes out of every paying supporter’s pocket, would that alter anything in your view?

    ———

Your second paragraph doesn’t add up to me. Just because I may have seen evidence of this previously doesn’t necessarily mean that Mrs Budge is accurate and the same type of events occurred on Sunday.

My point is that I saw no evidence of coin throwing, sectarian singing (from the Celtic support) or breaking of inanimate objects, wilfully or otherwise.

Regarding your last point, it would be equally interesting to assess the damage done to Parkhead and the financial costs which CFC incur.

Of course it does not mean they occurred. Nor does it mean that they did not occur. Which is why I said that believing it all or dismissing it all seem like the two extreme positions.

  23. liftedinmoscow on

If there isn’t a method in place tracing each seat number to the season ticket holder to who it was issued there should be soon. It wouldn’t take a great deal of effort, even a simple spreadsheet would suffice. That way if the seat is broken it can be traced to who was sitting there. If you pass it on and the seat gets damaged, tough unless you can prove it could not have been you. For example it was damaged when you got there. Those clubs who choose to sell away tickets directly should have somilar systems in place. Where a batch is sold to a supporters club then it is up to them to ensure they know who got which ticket.

Having said that Mrs Budge says in her statement that Hearts had previously spent money repairing broken seats primarily for the benefit of away supporters. Therefore they must have been damaged previously by at least one other team’s supporters. If so who, when and why did she not go public at the time?
