Dear SFA, a joke hurt our feelings

1666

Can you imagine how a formal complaint about the comment ‘Rory Bremner can pretend to be Tony Blair’ would be composed?

‘Dear SFA, a rude man’s joke hurt our feelings.  Tell him straight, no more jokes!’

I clicked onto the NEW club’s site to confirm their reaction.  As well as complaining about a joke [it wouldn’t hurt if it wasn’t true], they complain about the Daily Record, “the paper is riddled from top to bottom with an anti-Rangers bias”, just to prove they also have a sense of humour.

They also attempted to put a stake in the ground by affirming that Pinsent Masons, now representing Scotland’s champions and sole Champions League participants, did not report to the police that Craig Whyte has any connection to the club/company.

No one has ever suggested that Pinsent Masons made such a report.  This is a bit like insisting that Ally McCoist will not manage the Champions League winners this season.  Pinsent Masons were far too busy taking instructions from their top client’s chief executive, in his non-comedic role.

What a laugh!

Suppose Celtic fans come in all shapes and hues. Some are heroes, some (and CQN has several) are wonderful examples of mankind. Alas we also have our fair share of bigots, boors and of course, those like Johnston, whose head can be turned by baubles.

    Duty calls.

Not as immune to jibes as I thought…..

Thankfully I’m driving, cos I’d trip over my petted lip if I had to walk!

  3. Johnbay, BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS, hebcelt, MickTT, thanks for the kind wishes and thoughts for Kevin, he is doing well under the circumstances. Sorry if I missed anyone but am dashing round a bit at the moment.

Vespacide, who said it was after the fact that he declared his Masonry?

I would welcome comments on the general principle of a Declared Mason sitting in, discussing, and voting on matters where he has a very obvious conflict.

I am not taking this matter up with the PPC, but rather discussing the merits on CQN and Twitter, just to get views on it from those who supported me.

I suppose the argument distils down to one of “Does a declaration in the register of interests remove a vested interest in the proceedings?”

  4. Big Nan,

Not sure which one he was but, as I commented, there was an underlying hostility to some of the questioning – not from the chairman, and not from tufty – who was merely a tit.

Was he the one to the left of the Chairman?

  5. kikinthenakas,

Don’t worry about the sleep thing, I’m still all over the place. I can be wide awake during the night, will read the moonhowlers on here (Brill) and, still wide awake. Then during the afternoon It hits you. Honestly don’t worry.

As for the grumpy thing, what’s that? :-))))

  6. Just in. Spent a long evening with Pat Nevin and BRTH. After Pat left myself and BRTH went for a pint in Oran Mor. I said to him – what are we going to say on the blog? He said “just say that that was astonishing” – and as BRTH is the wordsmith he can say the rest. ALL the CQN questions were asked and answered. I compared him to Mo you know who, I asked was he a soup taker – it was all done. Will leave it there and leave it to BRTH to write the feature for the next issue of CQN Magazine. It will be to use BRTH’s word ASTONISHING. Goodnight.

  7. Oldtim, BT, Ht, and a few others, your craics been ninety tonight… made me smile anyway

Oldtim, haven’t met you , but you remind me of one Packy Lavin – Philbhoy knew him – and I can;t pay you a higher compliment

  8. BCW……I happen to believe that most,if not all, human beings have inherent bigotries and prejudices which are absorbed in their nurturing stage of life. It’s just that some are more extreme and dangerous than others.Education and travel broadens most minds and lets us see ourselves as others see us.

Extreme bigotry is horrible to experience close up and God knows I suffered from it for a long time living in Glasgow. It feels bittersweet to say that I’m glad my daughters were not brought up in my city of birth, regardless of how much I actually miss the place.

Hail Hail….we are all Celtic on here.

Thank you sir. We are fine really. Might have to come out of retirement nothing more than that (and relocation) to worry about. Will give you a shout when I am next in your area. Would be good to meet up for a chat. My regards to SB should you hear from him.

Again, thank you for the thoughts (and prayers offered).

  15. Vespacide, I think I see where you are coming from. He has registered in the members register but even though this is enough for us all to see should he not have made this revelation to the meeting and recused himself?

Welcome to the blog and you have immediately got a good theme going by the mere mention of the unmentionable. I very nearly got the jail one night outside of TJ’s in Clydebank after a me and my mate sang about him after a long day out at Tynecastle, probably got a “good” cop who sent us on our way.

On the day in 1986, I was still playing football at the time but for some strange reason our amateur game was postponed during May, I asked my brother if he fancied it and we shot across to Paisley and ended up in the Hibs club (?) I think. Anyway, after about half an hour and a couple of pints, the club was filling up and suddenly the old wooden floors were echoing to the sounds of Hail Hail and a few more tunes. We just looked at each other and thought, “this is on!”.

We headed off to Love Street and paid at the gate, we were in the Love Street end, occasionally running under the enclosure as the showers kept soaking us but what the hell! The football in the first half was scintillating, the goals were of Brazilian standard, remember Danny McGrain’s little overhead kick to start off the move for the third and Murdo’s step over for the Maestro to hammer in the fourth. The tension grew into the second half and we didn’t have a radio with us but as anyone who was there can confirm, we were all gathered round waiting for just one little bit of news. When it came it was like a feeling I had never nor probably will ever experience anything like again. We went out to a game expecting little but came home euphoric and ready for another big Celtic night out and the looks on the stunned mullets coming back from Ibrox…….priceless!!

LOL! Just what I was about to ask – astonishing ‘good’ or astonishing ‘bad’?!!

  20. Big Nan.

I think he should have at the very least made everyone aware of his affiliations at the start of proceedings.

    Hail Hail.

  21. Love Street.I was there, not expecting much apart from saying well done to the Bhoys for the season, the uncertanty when Kid scored (who for, Dundee or Hearts?) turned to euphoria, singing and dancing and perhaps general mayhem will live with me for ever.

That was the best title win for me (incapacitated for the 4-2 game)

  22. Dixiedeans…….shows how good a judge of character auld red nose Fergie must have been back then, when he didn’t take Judas to the Mexico World Cup 5 weeks later.

  23. dixiedeans

Was at the 4-2 game as well, another truly great night especially given the circumstances but we went to Love Street with little or no hope and came back as Champions and we even got to see it again on the telly, happy days indeed.

The very fact that you are posting and I am reading undermines your premise, Shirley.

  29. CQN has evolved from a small successful blog into a hugely successful blog…..

It has evolved from a small group of contributors who would address each other, to a large number of bloggers who address each other, arrange good deeds and meet each other socially.

It has also evolved from being primarily concerned with the finance of the game, in Scotland and throughout Europe, to one focused on all facets of the club.

Many excellent contributors contribute no more, many old names are not recognized or respected by new contributors.

It is the nature of the successful beast….. The only constant is change.

Whilst West CSC could have phrased the post more thoughtfully….. There is more than a degree of relevance to what West CSC is suggesting.

CQN is not what it once was…. But over time what, if anything, ever remains the same?

    Nothing….
