Declare the 9

873

I remember 1997 when another nine-in-a-row was about to be won.  We knew it was coming, we knew it would be difficult and we needed to get through the period.  I avoided all news coverage and football chat for over 24 hours that May, only to find out later that Motherwell’s Owen Coyle upset plans and the title had yet to be won.  I just wanted it over with, the delay was not helpful.

We are in the same situation now, there is not the remotest doubt the Premiership will be called and Celtic will be declared champions.  No one’s interest is served by further postponing the inevitable; it would only leave the SPFL in the spotlight longer than necessary.

Only box ticking exercises remain and today’s meeting between Premiership clubs and the SPFL should be the last.  Scottish football has more important things to worry about, it is in significant peril and needs to move energies on immediately.  Declare the 9.

As for Neuchatel, did all you Bhoys forget we got pumped over there???

I didnt. And wont. EVER. stupidly went there. On Heraghty’s bus aka Biff’s Bus. what a trip, game apart.

Were supposed to stay over after the game. All got on the bus shell-shocked after the 5-1 drubbin.

Biff asked the question do we want to stay or just head straight home. Unanimous answer, get us the f**k home.

Only time we got off the bus between Neuchatel and Hamilton services was on the ferry. Nuts.

Kids these days have not got a clue how lucky they have it.

Flying to games? winning in Rome? Lucky wee bassas!

Saying that, results part, those were great days.

Answers to Round 2: Celtic in Europe: It was the season 1993/94 ( ahem!) and we were up against Portugese opposition in the UEFA Cup 2nd round 1st leg at Paradise?

    Majestic,

Neuchatel was more than far enough, Astana?? :-)))

I went to Ekeren the round before Neuchatel, that was much more enjoyable, especially the overnight in Ghent. Mind on the way there, guys walking into the shop on the ferry and whilst two or 3 of the Bhoys were giving the girls at the tills the patter others were literally lifting cases of bevy and walking straight out not giving a monkeys.

Tjose bus trips were brilliant as a 21 yr old with not a care in the wolrd except where my next pint was coming from. Loved it.

But as with most nostalgia, would i do it again?? Stuff that! plane every time now :-)

    Bada,

I ended up doing a lot of work in Antwerp early 2000s. Outskirts of City has loads chemical plants and oil refineries. or did then anyway.

Old town is very nice, loads bars restaurants. Rest of it, as you say, bit of a midden.

Watxhed a few Celtic games in those 6/7 years over there in a couple Irish bars. One of them being Celtic 1-0 Barca in 2004. Place was heaving. What a night that was.

I could go on, as been lucky enough to watch Celtic games all over the feckin place in all sorts of Irish boozers and CSC’s. Downside being i wasnt at the games!
